2000 Silverado starter probs

I have this 00 Silverado 4.3 with a 5 speed manual. Had it since new and it's been the worst pos I have ever had. It's strictly a work truck and I'm constantly fixing it. Not from abuse, it's a lemon..period.

 

The starter went and when I pulled it out, it had shredded the starter gear and most of the flywheel. I replaced both pieces. Problem is that I simply cannot get the new starter to mate properly with the flywheel so it doesn't grind and skip. I am now on the 3rd starter and still can't get it to mate properly. Now the new flywheel is getting damaged. I can't believe this is such a problem. I have replaced many starters on other vehicles in the past without probs. Anyone there have this happen?

 

I have other GM trucks and love them, but I wish someone would steal this one.

Have you checked to see if the starter gear engaugement is correct. You use different shims on the starter mount to adjust the amount of engaugement.
