Soooo I went to get a tire patched...

Picked up a nice nail in the tire the other day, took it in to the dealership to get it patched. They said just pull up to the quicklube door, and they will help you there. So I park it, and go in and tell the guy I need to have my tire repaired, and no oil change (since it was the quicklube bay). While I'm waiting, I get paged..and go talk to this guy who was doing my tire. He says he doesn't know if he can patch it since it's so close to the sidewall..blah blah blah. And it looked like whoever put it on/off scraped up the inner rim of the tire pretty good, and he just wanted me to look at it before he did the work.

Well he already had the tire off the rim and I just really didn't want to deal with him anymore, I figured I would take it back to the place I bought the tires from. I asked him if I owe him anything, and he said, no that's fine.

Driving to the tire place I make it about 10 blocks before I hear a clicking noise, which turns into a clatter, and then it sounds like I'm driving a 6.2 diesel. My check gauge light is on, and oil pressure is at 0. I pull off the road, and sure enough, BONE DRY. My pickup has never leaked a drop and I just checked it about a week ago.

Long story short, some winner in the quicklube department drained all my oil, then realized I was there for a tire repair, and DIDN'T PUT ANY BACK IN. Had fun for about 3 hours at the place talking with almost every manager and watching as they changed the oil twice for me, and checked the oil myself in the pit.

Gonna have them pull the pan and look at the bearings Wednesday. I got everything in writing, and a 90 day wty.

I had to rant to somebody.... it's been a helluva day.

That sucks! Keep a close eye on your engine from now on. Any internal problem will probably be a result of their stupidity and they should fix it for free.

That truely sucks!

I hope it works out for you.

That sucks. Suggestion: make sure everything is documented. Names of people you spoke to, retain copy of the receipt. Write everything down and keep a copy.

Best of luck getting this resolved.

I would make them pay for an oil analysis of the oil that is in there. It would help identify any issues. I know it can't catch everything but it at least would show something. BlackStone Laboratories and Dyson Analysis are the two main ones I use.

You just can't trust anyone anymore. It is a DIY world if you want it done right.

Good suggestion. This is why I NEVER allow anyone to do routine maintenance on my vehicles. I do it myself within the limits of my skills/knowledge. At a minimum I would demand that they extend your warranty to 6 years/72K miles or similar. No way you should settle for only 90 days. Good luck.

IMO, you need to find a way to kill that motor in the next 90 days. No way I'd accept anything short of a new motor/rebuild.

I couldn't do that to my 350 that runs/RAN like a top!

Tomorrow I'm going in to have them drop the pan and check the bearings....and talk to the service manager yet again. I figure I'll give him an ultimatum.... I want a warranty at least till 200k (vehicle has 93k), because he says there shouldn't be any damage done driving that far. Or a brand new GM crate motor.

So.... I figure that if he really believes that no damage was done, he will stand behind his words and warranty me out to 200k. Or, if he says he wants to buy me the new motor, then basically he's saying there was serious damage done.

Myself, I'd rather have the warranty, because I pulled off as soon as I realized the problem, so the damage could be minimal. However, a brand spanking-new GM 350 would be much appreciated, aside from the fact that from my experience putting new/rebuilt motors into older vehicles can cause major headaches.

Either way it just sucks, because I had a pickup w/ 93k that ran like it had 10k on the clock. And it won't ever be the same.

--After they flushed the engine w/ oil I went down into the pit to see the oil myself...there were no metal filings or metallic look to the oil from the pan. I noticed a very (very) small amount in the oil from the filter, however. What do ya think of that?

I think anything less then a brand new engine is not enough. If you heard the bearings start to make noise that means the damage has already been done.Im sure if it was reversed and you forgot to add oil doing a change yourself and they knew it your warranty would be void because they know it takes only seconds to do terminal damage to a engine running it without oil.

Wow - they may have jerks doing the work who would not say "Hey, no oil in that truck"

But, at least they are getting you a new engine. All is well that ends well?

Good luck with the install.
