Steering Radio Controls

The wifey's car, no steering wheel controls :)

Why leave her out?

I know its a bit off topic but I got the idea from this thread. I purchased a wheel for my wifes 2010 Acadia installed it and the controls dont work. All the buttons light up but do not function. Any ideas?

From the sounds of it, the Acadia steering wheel with controls isn't plug and play. An Acadia forum I am a vendor on has some people talking about doing it early this year and writing a step by step guide, but it doesn't look like it ever got done.

Well, after the DIC mod I decided I wanted to add the steering radio controls to my truck (2007 Silverado NBS/Z71 4x4/LT1). My wife's Tahoe has them and I really like the setup so I ordered the complete steering wheel setup from GMPartDirects (part no. 15917931, ebony leather wrapped steering wheel). They had just the controls but I wasn't sure if the connectors were in my current steering wheel so I didn't want to risk disasembling the steering wheel and not finding where to plug the controls. The setup was $182.91 total ($149 for the steering wheel and $32 for shipping/processing fees).

I'm still unsure if I want to take it to the dealer and have them install it for me, since I don't want to hear the "your warranty will be voided if you install this in your truck". They already told me that GM didn't sell this part and if it didn't come with it installed from the factory it can't be done.

I read a few posts and it seems fairly simple to unistall the existing one and install a new one, no special tools are needed just need the GM steering wheel puller to take off the steering wheel. But I'm still reluctant to do it because of the Air Bag and I'm not sure if the computer has to be programmed to read the controls.

I know some of you are interested in adding the radio controls so I'll post an update once it's installed. In the meantime if any of you have any inputs on how to "do-it-yourself" or any information about the programming of the computer, please jump in.

Thanks!

Jose

(in hindsight I should have gotten the LT w/ the convenience package since I also want the fog lamps...Oh Well!)

I wonder if this would work as well on a 2010 Crew Cab 1500 Sierra 4x4?

Just finished installing me "Schram's steering wheel" and it works perfectly! Get one; you won't be disappointed!

So, I'm apparently an idiot. I broke one of those tabs on the connection to the airbag from the wheel Two questions:

Any recommendations on how and what to stick something down in there to depress the tab since the top is broken off?

Is that cabling between the wheel and the airbag easy to replace, and if so, what is the part number? It's a really short piece of cable...

Heres a question... Anyone running Bluestar and an upgraded radio control wheel? Is there any phone functions that work with the steering wheel controls?

Anyone put a steering wheel from an Express Van into their Silverado? I just got a bunch of ebony wheels with all controls and titanium insert in for Express vans, but they look a bit different on the inside.

Let's see one. Are they up on your website yet?

By the way, the one you sent me works fine. Thanks for your excellent service!

Comparing the 09 GMC Sierra here with what you have shown above, looks like they will swap out OK to me. What say the rest of you?

The airbag mounting plate has a different shape, but if the spacing for the mounting pins is the same, it should snap in. Do they use the same airbags? The main harness plug should be the same.
