The airbag mounting plate has a different shape, but if the spacing for the mounting pins is the same, it should snap in. Do they use the same airbags? The main harness plug should be the same.

 

 

They use a different airbag. The hole for the airbag in the truck is also much bigger, but I'm not sure if that make much a difference? I'm having someone check the wire configuration to see if they're the same. Trying to get a volunteer around here to test.

Well, I too did this swap which was very easy but my audio controls do not work either!!! :cheers: My cruise still works fine and my lights work on both the cruise and audio controls. My truck is a 1500 crew w/t with the LS package, June/07 production. I have the standard radio with CD player and aux input on the front. Any suggestions other than buying a replacement HU??

Just ordered mine from Schram's on ebay I got a gray one I was holding out for over a month for ebony but couldn't wait any longer. hopefully my LS has the wiring. Either way I want a Leather wheel so If it doesn't have the wiring I'll use my existing schroud and put the controls for sale.

If your truck is the same as mine (you mentioned in a pm that they sounded the same) then it will work. Mine did.

Yes it did. Oh BTW... your help on my starter issue pushed the dealer to force the doubting tech to install it. Thanks again!

just installed this and the Universal Home Remote roof panel this afternoon.

 

everything went on and off easily, BUT now i have a "Service Air Bag" message!!!

 

anyone know what could cause this?

 

i have checked and rechecked all the connections on the airbag and roof panel, everything is fine. i think i disarmed the airbag properly (disconnected negative battery cable for over 10 minutes) i also removed the fuses after removing the negative cable just to be sure. i disconnected the negative cable again after the light came on for about an hour and it still is popping up. i used my scanner to look for codes, but none popped up! :thumbs:

 

also i'd like to mention, i had leather installed in the truck this morning. i drove the truck home from the interior shop, with no airbag light, about 20 miles. after i got home i immediately started the roof panel and then the radio controls.

Ok, got it working, and figured it out!!

 

Looks like maybe just the WT package did not have the lights wired for the cruise control.

 

Under the driver side dash, there is a wire harness and plug. It is kinda off white with a blue bracket that clamps to hold the harness together. If you undo the harness, look for the dark brown wire. Careful, because there is a black w/ white stripe and a black wire. Make sure you get the brown wire. I cut it, and tapped it on to the dash lights. Now my steering wheel radio and cruise control light up!!

 

I would have taken pictures, but there was barely enough room up in there for my two bear paws, let alone a camera!! Hopefully I explained it well enough, for anyone else who is in the same situation!!

I decided to put the radio controls on today since I had some spare time. I have cruise control in my 2010 LT and assumed the stereo harness was going to be there. After removing everything I discovered that my truck does not have the radio harness. I was going to just cut the shroud to make it all work, but since the wires are not in I think I will look for a used steering wheel. Plan B.

I had the day off today and decided to find a used steering wheel with the cruise and audio controls. First off I discovered it was very difficult to find newer vehicles in the local salvage yards. Nothing at the two pick-a-parts I went to. I went to a truck/SUV specialty yard and found a Tahoe with a beige wheel. All I really needed was the harness for my black wheel. I went inside to talk about price and they would only sell me the entire steering column. I could have gone back in the yard and had that air bag off and the harness out in two minutes, but instead I went outside and called Schram's. $75 for a black 2010 Silverado wheel with cruise and radio controls with 2 miles on it. Five hours spent driving around and looking through salvage yards, five minute call to Schram for the part.

I wanted to update this post in case someone else doesn't read ALL the posts like me and buys the wrong stuff. When I removed the air bag from my 2010 Silverado with cruise control I found that I did indeed have a wiring harness, but it did not have the plug for the audio controls. I went back and read the entire 22 pages and found where this was already discovered a long time ago. If I could source the OEM connector I would make my own harness, but it was much easier just ordering the wheel from Schram.

 

The wheel I ordered from Schram was a perfect fit for my truck. I am getting pretty fast at removing the air bag now. I had the old wheel off and new wheel on in less than 10 minutes. I hooked the battery back up and tried the controls. Everything works, the audo controls, bluetooth, and back lighting...just like it came from the factory. I have never had audio controls on the wheel of any of my vehicles, and now wonder how I've lived without it.

 

My wheel came wrapped in plastic and I installed the wheel with the plastic still on. After checking that everything worked I took the plastic wrap off. The wheel looked terrible. I am guessing that it was damaged in shipment. There is a small cut in the leather at the bottom of the wheel (cut thru the pastic wrap) and it looks as if the leather was worn away on 75% of the outer wheel. It was packed very well by Schram and I do not believe it looked like that when they had it. For a wheel with only two miles on it, it looks older than any steering wheel I have seen. No problem...I just took the wheel back off and swapped the rear shroud and wiring harness onto my old wheel. The pic below shows the cut and the "wear" of the leather.
