Tsb On Ebony Seat

Alright guys guess who I just got done talking to?...Our area GM service rep.!

And guess what I ask him?!...He-He :D

He told me there is nothing on new seat covers yet,Hmm....imagine that!! :)

He said what GM "probably" means when then say that they are "looking into" the issue,is that they want to know what changed,In other words...why is this new material/fabric on our GMT900 trucks collecting lint, and the material/fabric on the GMT800/GMT400 trucks does not collect lint.

My wild guess is that it's the new fabric.

I told him that,It didn't matter

I ask him why they don't just use the same material/fabric that was on the GMT800/GMT400 trucks.....He said they want to be sure they have the issue resolved before they issue new seat covers,

What issue. Just don't use the same covers you have on now and they should be OK.

I told him that too,It also didn't matter

OoooKaaa :sigh: I told him the fix....USE THE MATERIAL/FABRIC FROM THE OLD TRUCKS!!!!

Or the seat fabric from almost any other car or truck on the road

:fume:

That too...No dice as of yet!

Sorry,I know thats not what you guys wanted to hear but thats the answer I got.

Oh to live in a world where everybody isn't full of shit. What if they just said "We don't know if we are going to fix it cause it might cost us more than its worth. You already paid us for the truck so we don't have a lot of motivation. That guy from India at the call center that you bug three times for 15 min costs us about 73 cents. Compare that to the cost of covers and it's just not worth it. The only thing that's gonna happen is next time you will spring for leather"

At least I could respect an answer like that.

Yep,I agree....But I ain't springin' for leather,I hate it and would rather put up with this lint than have leather

I never had leather seats in a truck before, but with the dog hair, pilling, and lint problems, I am installing leather. I haven’t even had my truck for a year and I have already had to replace a seat cover (GM warranty). I have had vehicles for 10 years without a seat problem.

I really would like to know how GM tested the seats and material during QA. Something was definitely missing in the test matrix.

Maybe that was the problem....They "DIDN'T" test it! :sigh::)

all things considered, I think GM is trying to find the CHEAPEST solution to correct the problem, where it would not cost them a whole hell alot of money (I bring up the injector problems on the earlier D-Max engines to prove my point)........

No problem.

Yeah,Thats why I don't even try and sell any parts on here,I can't compete with those on-line places. They sell parts basically,or almost,at cost...but most of the time they make up for it on shipping.

I don't really care for leather either. Cold in the winter and sticky in the summer. I wonder what they (whoever they may be) would charge for fabric covers. Not the kind that go over my existing seat, I think that looks cheap. Like a plastic cover on a couch.

Well POSSIBLE good news, I spoke with my service manager today who had a meeting with GM reps and brought this issue up,

obviously they stated that GM is standing firm on making people wait until there is a solution to the problem but, according to the reps, they have found a solution, a replacement for the current cloth that will resolve the problem and a supplier. They still havent stated a date when the parts will be out but it should be soon.

That's just about exactly what I heard. Let's hope we're actually close.

Service manager at a local Chevy dealership called today. He said GM states that they have a fix and are in the final stages before releasing it. He said no part # yet but assumes seat covers are already in production. Sweet Oden's Raven.

I'm with you guys. I hope it's true. Let's just keep our expectations in check.
