Tsb On Ebony Seat

"I don't even care about the lint as much now. I am worried about the fabric holding up! I already had my lower half of the driver's seat replaced with only 32,000 miles."

Ack, that isn't good to hear....

I did get custom covers for mine, but just to help keep 'em a lil cleaner, cost me $120 for the fronts. Might be a temp solution for some of you guys.

So I did e-mail GMC Canada and log my complaint, and a couple of days later a lady from GMC did call me and she also contacted my service department where I bought the truck. I took the truck in today along with the TSB and the service manager looked at the seats, confirmed that there is a problem and made a note in my file that I was in WRT the seats. Apparently someone else was in a few days ago with the same problem, so that really helped my case. He knew about the TSB, but since there is no fix as of yet, his hands are tied. Some big wig is suppose to be in tomorrow at the dealership, and the service manager is going to talk to him about this, so we'll see what happens. But he did tell me that now that I have logged a complaint, if the fix comes on in say, 5 years, I am still eligible for the fix even though my warranty is done. So we'll see what happens. But I agree that the more complaints that are logged, maybe the faster we will see a fix.

Cheers.

You are probably close with your 5 year timeframe. At this point I don't really see any motivation for GM to take care of the issue. After speaking with them a couple of times I can see that customer service isn't really a concern of theirs. When you remove caring about your customers, basically their choice is pay out for new covers or just ignore it and keep the money. I think they have decided to keep the money.

The truck is 3 weeks old and has 675 km's on it. I am really hoping that it gets resolved long before I hit a 5 year mark  .

As stated a few pages back I have ordered my Katzkins already because I just can't stand it anymore but in speaking with my service manager I made the following proposal. If GM will pay the labor I will pay for the material to have the seats redone and sign off against any future claims relating to this TSB. Now the upholstery shop I am using does all of GM's warranty upholstery in my town so that helps. I didn't tell them I'm getting it done regardless of what they say but I figured it was worth a shot. I should know by Friday so I'll let you know.

Thats a good compromise Wayne,Its still ashame though because we shouldn't have to pay for anything because they put in junk seat covers.

And for people like me who hate leather, there is no compromise to make!

Yeah,The same bulletin is still out.....

Service Information 2007 Chevrolet Silverado - 4WD | Sierra, Silverado (VIN C/K) Service Manual | Document ID: 2023269

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#07-08-50-018A: Excessive Lint Accumulation on Cloth Seats (Parts Not Yet Available) - (Oct 2, 2007)

Subject: Excessive Lint Accumulation on Cloth Seats (Parts Not Yet Available)

Models: 2007-2008 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe

2007-2008 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali, Yukon Denali XL

with Cloth Seats (RPOs AE7, AZ3, A95)

Built Prior to August 1, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to advise dealers that the appropriate parts are not available at this time. This bulletin will be revised again when parts become available. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-08-50-018 (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition:

Some customers may comment on excessive lint accumulation on the cloth seat material. Darker colored seat fabric seems to show the condition more than lighter fabrics.

Cause:

The source of the lint accumulation is not the seat fabric material. The seat material, though, exhibits a tendency to accumulate and retain lint from sources that come into contact with the fabric.

Correction:

The part numbers listed in the previous bulletin were incorrect. Please do not replace the seat covers at this time.

Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. I tried that as well. GM said "absolutely not". Hope it works for you.

did the lint dance for lunch today. nice and clean for the wknd. well, i hope it will be clean for the wknd. lol i am definately tired of the lint and waiting for a fix. i am starting to think about katzkin also. seems like a few have done it and love it! i guess anything at this stage would be better than lint cleaning every few days. does anyone know of the other lines gm has that are having this issue?

It is fascinating to me that in all this time there is no new information. How is that possible? You give me a problem and a years time, I'll at least be able to give you a progress report. If my company was in the dumps, I would think keeping existing customers happy would be a priority. I thought one basic part of running a business is that it is easier to keep existing customers than to piss them off and find new ones.

I know,I agree totally.

We know the problem..The seat material :sigh:

We know the solution...The seat material from the '99-'07 GMT800 Classics.

my service guy is gonna try to snoop into it and see what he can do. Meanwhile i have been using a clean lightly damp "absorber"

I think it works well. Its still a pain seeing how my '05 never needed it but cant have that much lint build up.
