Need A New Pc

Well I got some kind of infestation on my old HP. I was typing a book report and all these damn internet explorer pages start popping up for spyware stuff. Then my back ground turns into some page for a spyware search, and I can't acess my control manager thing (cntrl alt del) because the system admin disabled it. Cant even open firefox, I'm on the old ladies Laptop now. I don't see myself typing a report on this thing

Well the HP tower was a few years old, and ran pretty good, might have had a 60 gig drive? I have a good plasma screen and sound system, so I just need a tower. Since I'm leaving Wednesday for a few weeks I'll just get a tower when I get back since the HP is old anyways. Whats recommended? I just need something for internet and Microsoft word. Oh and it needs to be able to hold some songs because I'm going to loose a shit ton

I'm not big on computers so I'm not buying individual parts and building one, nor do I need that crazy liquid cooled shit. Just something for internet and Microsoft word, basically school stuff. Music and burning cd's every once in a while.

Pick one. Ignore the Dells my old one was junk from the beginning. Are Compaq's decent? Should I just take the infested HP to a shop and have them wipe it clean for cheap? That's a good possibility too, I'd rather buy mods when I get back rather than a new tower, but a new tower could be cool, that's why I want a cheap one.

Buy a Mac...I have a old IMac that still works...I have a 12 inche IbookG4 and wife has older 14 inch IbookG4 abosolutely no problems...no viruses...Love it...never will look back at another PC...However my 11 month old son was in my lap and pushed my laptop off the chair for the eighth time and now I have a loose monitor which I have to get fixed....But its still working...

Go Mac....you will never go back....Haha

A bit over $300, 160gb, and it sounds good lol. I know nothing about this stuff. They make it sound bad ass, dual core processor and all kinds of crazy stuff.

Fix it! Even if you want to buy a new one, there's no reason to ditch a perfectly good computer because of a little spyware. You can either get some free spyware removing software (google it) or just format/reinstall. Most companies have instructions or even a CD that came with the computer that'll do that for you.

Of course, you can also take it somewhere and have them do it for you. Up to you!

You can either get some free spyware removing software (google it) or just format/reinstall. Most companies have instructions or even a CD that came with the computer that'll do that for you.

I can hardly access the internet on that computer. I can only use IE, and it hardly works, I tried to google something and that failed. I tried updating my anti virus/spy ware stuff and it acted like I had no internet connection.

I'd just download the software on another computer, then copy it to a CD, USB Key, or whatever you have laying around. If you need to, try booting to safe-mode and go from there. But if you're going to take it somewhere - you could just let them fix it for ya. I mean, if you're going to pay them, no point in wasting $$$ on a format/reinstall.

I'd go for the $529 HP (Model: s3400f SKU: 8781712). It'll be enough to get the job done, easily. And you've got lots of storage for the tunes.

In the future, check out 'Spybot: Search and Destroy'. It's free (and legit) software you can download to kill spyware installed on your system. It's my best friend.

You mentioned the CD companies include with PC's, are you referring to the disk that basically sets everything back to the way it was when the computer was built?

Last time it was $60 for them to go thru and delete all the viruses, spyware, etc. He was talking all computer jibberish, i think he said something like polymorphic viruses? idk. I think it would be cheaper to just have them wipe the whole thing clean, but I have a lot of important passwords saved on that comp, like my credit card account and stuff. I probably have them written on paper but when women clean things they just throw it away and don't read it.

I'd try to download more spyware and antivirus stuff but I can't really access the internet on that comp. I don't think its spyware because that comp has done a 180, like when it blocked me from using the task manager...

Go back to 1964... BUY A MAC!

RUN AWAY FROM THIS SUGGESTION! (and don't look back!)

Don't fall for that gig! Macs are still working because they never did anything well in the first place.

If that machine was working fine, format the drive and reinstall your OS (or have somebody do it) You can always upgrade the RAM cheaply (or even a video card) and it doesn't sound like you are doing anything that requires a monster processor upgrade. I'd bet you get another 3 years out of it - no problem.

And yes I am kidding (a little) about the MAC.

Don't buy a new comp, just find your windows xp cd and pop it in the drive and restart the comp. It will go into a windows setup/repair utility and you can format the hard drive and reinstall windows. The cd that has windows on it might actually have some branding on it from your OEM. That is if you still have the cds and crap that came with the comp.

Nothing you are doing on your computer most likely will take advantage of what you would be paying for when buying a new computer. I doubt you would be able to tell the difference between your current processor or a core duo.

By all means you should reformat. I believe many HP's and Compaq's don't come with the system restore cd's. Rather they partition about 5 or 6 gigs of your hard drive and stick it in there. When you start your computer look very closely at the options it gives you. If it is an HP it will most likely have something like "Press F12 to Begin System Restore". Do yourself a favor and hit it. It's not hard and you don't need any knowledge to do it. Just be sure to choose full restore instead of repair. Good luck.

LOL I can look for it. lol...idk why but I lol'd. Its gotta be 3 years old I'd say. I do know this Im trying to type in Microsoft Word in Vista right now and I want to attack small children.

I am with the rest of the guys here in saying to try to reformat first. You can go to HP's website if you have the model number and you can download all of the drivers needed for your computer for no cost. As long as you have the xp CD with the key you are good to go. If a virus is the only the wrong the format will take care of it. But, if you are that set on buying a new one, the one you picked out from Best Buy looks pretty good. I have the 4200+ in my gamer computer. I built it back in the end of 06-early 07 (I think) and still play all my games on it to this day. Battlefield 2, Arma, and WoW.
