Afm And Gmpp Exaust

I want to put a GMPP Performance Exhaust on the 5.3 Sierra I will be getting soon.. I have heard that with AFM, when it switches from 8 to 4 and vice versa, that it will cause a odd and unpleasent sound to come from an aftermarket (read: loud) exaust.. some say like it has a clogged pipe or something. Is this true, or is it hardly noticeable at all?

I don't want to be going down the highway and constantly hearing a clogged pipe sound whenever AFM switches on.. The good thing about the Performace exhaust is it's not extremely loud, and a change in volume might not be as noticable, so I hope..

Thanks for any input.

I have the GMPP touring exhaust and I love it. I can barely notice when it shifts from V8 to V4. Mine is queit when cruizing and has a nice rumble when you get on it. And no drone at all!! I couldn't be happier with this system.

Keep in mind, if you plan on getting the dual rear exit GMPP exhaust, you MUST remove your spare permanently. That is a joke, especially for a GM labeled accessory.

I'd go with Corsa.

That is why I got the touring single out the side. I like the clean look of it. I personally don't like the dual out the back because I haul a white boat and house trailer around in the summer and I don't want exhaust to go directly on them when driving.

I've got the GMPP performance, single side exit. The sound is fantastic. My only complaint is the switching between 4/8 cylinders is noticeable. I've heard the touring is better in that respect, but I wouldn't want to give up the sound either! Not sure what I'd do if I could do it over. I've gotten used to the sound so it doesn't bother me as much anymore.

I also do not really care for the look of duals, especially if you are towing frequently.

I am running a Flowmaster 50 series with the AFM disabled, so I don't have the problem with the sound. But my installer advised against aftermarket exhaust/mufflers before I told about my disabling the AFM. He said that he had several unhappy customers come back due to the sound. He said that he drove some of them and it was really bad. Hope this helps a little.

+1 on the Corsa if you don't want to disable the AFM. They claim to have done R&D with the AFM to make the sound less noticeable when it switches back and forth.
