I just left NHRA.com and they have anounced that for the next 5 years it will be the NHRA Powerade Championship.  Coke is replacing Winston for now.  I'm glad that they have found a good backer for the next few years, also they are upping the year end money awards.  I hope that Nascar has good luck finding a new big name.

Has Winston been outlawed or something?

As part of an agreement in court, they can only sponsor one sporting event.  They choose Winston Cup in the NASCAR series.

:D Interesting to see that the sports teams in the US appear to be dropping cigerette company sponsors the way they did up here in Canada a few years ago. None of the NHL or any sports teams , race tracks, etc. have any cigg. Co. sponsors anymore.

I think is just a public image the NHRA and others are trying to project. How long till NASCAR comes up with new, dare I say it, another co. Winston for the ----- Cup????

As said above, it's not Winston's decision to drop out.  It was the court's decision to limit the exposure of tobacco companies.  That means no more Team Winston as well.  It isn't only in motorsports, it's being removed from other everyday things that young people may see and be influenced by.

I'm sure eventually they could be phased out of NASCAR too.  It's all part of the govt's master plan to make smokers the "bad guy" and the outcast.  BTW...I'm not a smoker either, just don't like big govt!

Sounds like they found a good sponser to me!  Coca-cola has been involved in motorsports for quite some time now.  I had always thought that they would be the ones to step up to the plate when NASCAR had to find a new sponser.  Wonder how long its gonna be before we have to find out?

btw, do the tobacco companies still sponser pro-rodeo?  Last I heard they did, but I don't know.  May not be a large enough market for the gov to car about?

The fact that it is the smokeless tobacco that sponsors the rodeo may have something to do with them still being able to have their name up there.  Copenhagen Skoal sponsors a bunch of stuff, lately their angle has been to pay money to have their product name appear as part of a bull's name.
