Newb Trying To Assess Truck Value

Looking at a 2007 Tahoe LT. New to SUV/truck world (needs have changed)

Seller claims vehicle cost $54K originally, I'm having a hard time believing that (unless they got totally hosed by dealer for add-ons). Of course they don't have the window sticker. I think it's a lease and they're simply trying to see if they can find someone willing to pay more than lease buyout.

Appears loaded, leather, 4wd, DVD player for rear... but I'm having a hard time reverse engineering option packages.

I was able to snag the VIN - is there anyone here who can reproduce a "build sheet" and/or options/MSRP from the VIN? I've been able to to find what typical leasing residual values were at that time, but not MSRPs.

New to trucks but not vehicle forums... yes I did search but terms are too generic.

Thanks in any event.

ok, boys, let me give you some wisdom. it does not matter what original cost was. it does not matter what MSRP was. or what edmunds or bluebook or black book say (btw, best do is to go to your bank, and ask for black book. tell them you think about drawing a used car loan through them and want to see if you looking at the right truck. talk to loan officer. they have those little black books, ya know)

anyhow, here's the wisdom. VALUE FOR ANY ITEM FOR SALE IS EQUAL AMOUNT ONE IS WILLING TO PAY FOR IT. that's it. so, that truck might be sitting on the market for months, falling in value and be sold for pennies, or a foool will show up and will pay face value as "he feels it's a great deal".

i have one word for any 'reserchers" of such values: craigslist. get thing called CASH, and hear it talk to any seller.

I get that, thank you for the wisdom.

What I'm trying to do, however, is stack the deck and determine what the seller's lease buyout is. I have a good idea of what the residual value/percentages were at the time the truck was leased, so if I can get the MSRP, I then have a good proxy for what the buyout value is and where to start negotiating UP from - rather than DOWN from the asking price, which of course is unrealistically high (based on kbb/nada/edmunds... I've never heard of "black book" but every time I've gone to the DMV to register a used car they pull out the NADA book which is the industry bible of used car prices)

thanks for the info.

Whos to know what the fool paid when he got into his lease???????

Ya figure its a 07 that cost $50+k so he prob. scored a 60/72 month lease plan

to keep the payments low. If hes had the truck for what 2 years? he still owes

ALL the remaining payments PLUS the buyout amount.

So no matter...... what he still OWES the leasing company waaaay more than the

truck is worth ! Hope he has a lot of cash handy...but not likely!

BTW: The Black book is used here by most dealers in the Northeast US.

It is current auction prices here in the Northeast. Other parts of the country

use their own regional version. Or some use Galves while others use Kelly.

Most banks use Kelly BB to determine the LOAN value for a used vehicle when the

average Joe comes in to borrow money to buy it from a private owner or even a

dealer. Note that the LOAN value is ofter LESS than the KBB low book figure.

Thats where the dealer comes into play !!!!!!!!!

They can usually finance anyone (with good credit) either the KBB RETAIL value/

and/or roll over any negative equity into the new loan up to 125% of high KBB book!

Of course with the new banking crisis/bailouts/recession they be a bit leary of

lending more than hi book......................

    • Not sure about DFM tech but i know there's a stop/start deactivation button.
    • I could be interested if they axed cylinder deactivation and at least have a button for stop start. I’m sure the HP numbers will be higher. I would want a longer warranty to help build confidence. I’m a less is more guy as I get older. A V-8 work truck model would be my choice. I know a few outfitters for custom additions I prefer.
    • It's official. GMC pulled the covers off the next-gen 2027 Sierra 1500, and we got the first official look. Full breakdown here: https://www.gm-trucks.com/next-gen-2027-gmc-sierra-1500-v8-trim-changes/   The quick hits: SLE and SLT are dead. The new core retail trim is just called "Elevation". Two new V8s, a 5.7L and a 6.6L built with high-performance Corvette architecture roots. No horsepower or torque numbers yet. The 2.7 TurboMax finally ditches the old gearbox and gets the 10-speed automatic. AT4X moves to larger standard 35-inch tires with front and rear e-lockers, Multimatic DSSV dampers, and heavy-duty Jounce Control Dampers. Over 60 inches of combined display on Denali Ultimate and AT4X, complete with a motorized articulating center screen and an adaptive passenger screen. Seven simplified trims across the entire model line to clean up ordering confusion.   So let's get into it: New 5.7L and 6.6L gas V8s with custom active exhaust tuning and a Corvette connection. Is this the exact engine lineup half-ton traditionalists have been begging for? Purging the iconic SLE and SLT names after all these years to lean entirely on Elevation as the high-volume core. Bold move, or a mistake? That motorized articulating 16.3-inch screen that slides up to reveal a hidden dashboard vault. Awesome mechanical theater, or does it make you nervous about long-term durability? Physically lowering the headlamps in the front fascia to improve road courtesy and stop blinding oncoming traffic. Smart real-world engineering, or does it hurt the truck's aggressive stance? What trim are you putting your name down for on day one? Drop your first impressions below.
    • My overnight hospital stay turned into five.  I developed a post operative fever and an erratic  heart rate.  A blood clot in the lungs was the culprit.  This is apparently a common post surgical complication and easily remedied.   I was the youngest in a four bed ward and a Doctor with a Geriatric specialization was in charge of my care.  All of the nurses were good and some were outstanding at dealing with old people.  It was very evident that my age triggered a different level of care!  My advice to any senior going for a hospital stay is to have a trusted family member advocate visible.  If not, you will still be well cared for, but you may discover that your voice  isn't as strong as it once was!
