Thinking About Selling Both Trucks

It's wrong what the federal gov't is doing to the American car industry and I just cannot support it if they take a majority stake in GM. I guess this is the Fed's way of telling me it's time for me to go back to owning non-american cars (specifically German cars b/c I like them and that's mostly what I've owned in the past).

 

BTW: I was already going to sell the 99, I'm just adding the sale of the 08 to my thoughts. Once I figure out what I want to drive daily I will probably just trade both trucks in on that vehicle. I won't do anything until the gov't actually takes the majority share (and screws all the current stockholders - that would be any of us that own GM stock directly or thru our retirement portfolios). I should just sell now before the value takes another hit but I will wait it out and hope that it doesn't happen.

 

I'm leaning toward the new M3 coupe or convertible but I haven't ruled out 911s and Audi RS4s.

Selling your truck won't undo already buying it. You've bought your truck, GM has already gotten their money for it, you've already supported them. How will selling it end that support? GM or the majority share holder will never know that you or all current owners sell their GM vehicles, the only thing that would happen is resale would plummet, and we would all end up keeping them because we'd loose too much by selling them (I'm not going to be surpprised if this is already happening.) In the end you are only hurting your self. The only way to prove we don't approve of what is taking place is at the polls or at the dealers. Don't buy NEW GM's and change who is elected. Simple as that. This is not a political dig, just that the only way to change how the government deals with these companys is to change the government, or the opinion of those in office (any office). That is how to make change, not selling the truck you already have.

I don't really understand your logic, but then again I don't know if you owe on your new truck or who you owe it too, so I will assume you own both outright.

 

Why in the world would you sell a truck you bought when the govt didn't have a stake? How would continued use of said truck support the the position the govt has taken?

 

IMHO your are doing a diservice to GM by selling what you got and buying a forigen vehical...If everyone did this GM's profit margins would take a nose dive since they would have to charge more for each vehical to cover costs and the govt would either have take a bigger stake, or close them down all together until the margins return to normal. The best chance GM has in the future of becoming their "own" company again, is to buy out the govt holdings once they have the cash. How will buying a BMW solve this problem....

Is very simple logic. Both trucks need parts and service. For service you don't have to use the dealership but most replacement parts are OE and need to be purchased from the dealer. This is not really about money (at least my money that's already spent), it's more about the principle. I wouldn't own a Chinese car b/c I don't support communism the same way I wouldn't own an American car which in some way would be supportive of nationalizing business. I'm not saying I will never own an American car again, it just won't happen while the Fed owns a stake in the company.

 

Once they take over it won't matter what we want to drive, they will build what they want us to drive...this is not a model for business success IMHO. The idea of the Gov't selling it's stake in the short term (like the liars have told us they want to do) is nice to hear but unrealistic.

as other's have said you're not really accomplishing much by selling your truck. but if you must sell and you're dead set on replacing it with a car, get an RS4. in a few years when i'm ready to buy a recreational vehicle, that will be what i get. very nice cars.

As far as supporting China, you shop at Wal-Mart right?

You cannot buy ALL needed replacement parts at an independent.

I never shop at wal-mart, EVER!!! I won't even set foot in a WM or Sam's store. They are terrible corporate citizens...they have made an effort to improve in certain areas (the ones that become newsworthy) but they still are a bunch of a$$hats.

I think we may have to agree to disagree, once again I have to point out by not buying GM anymore your ensuring that the goverment will either close them down, or own them outright..Contributing to what you hate the most....

I bet the computer you are using has alot of parts made in china. If you have kids I bet most of their toys were made in china. I bet the shoes you are wearing were made in china.......

 

I'm not saying selling your trucks makes absolutely no sense............. I'm just saying.
