Starting this thread to document the build on my 2020 Sierra. As I live downtown I want a vehicle that’s small and easy to get around in and something fast to play with. GM doesn’t make a single cab short bed and definitely doesn’t make one with the 6.2 so I’m having one built. Starting out with a 2020 Sierra 2 door long bed (8’). Going to chop the frame down and install a short bed (5’8”) on it. Moving forward after that we are looking to put a supercharged 6.2l bored out to 416ci. Started off with the easy stuff like tinted windows and new stereo (new door and tweeter speakers, amps and 2-12” subs). Now it’s at the body shop for the short bed conversion. Then to suspension for a 4/6 drop. A brief stop for some Katzkin leather seats. Then to the performance/speed shop for the engine work. Then off to have the trans built to handle the aprox 850hp the engine will put out (@ the crank). Just started the fun part of the build process at the body shop. Here they are cutting down the frame.3 points

Picked up a hard to find set of Dark Sky Metallic color matched wheel well trim from a GM dealer on eBay. Only broke 2 clips taking off the stock set. Perfect color match. Love the look so much better. Next up a 6 inch BDS lift and some wheels/tires. Probably/hopefully Spring for that project. S&B CAI arrived today as well.2 points

Its lube spray some lube in the mirror and you will find it working flawlessly for a few months. i think it’s the rubber seal that gets dried out. Been looking for a long term lube for awhile but stuck using white lithium spray lube until I can figure out something more permanent. i believe folding the mirrors going to the car wash removes most of the lube2 points

You are very welcome. Extended warranties are very much, beauty in the eye of the beholder, they are spendy, but some will not have a car without them, all personal choice.1 point

JimCost2014 nailed it on the head with his first reply, it comes down to the service manager. I've lived in 6 different states and most service managers I've had were not great. I finally struck gold with the one I have now. There has been ~$7k of work done outside of warranties and I've only had to pay ~$500 out of pocket. My service manager got GM to cover the rest. So in my case GM covered 97% of all my repairs outside of warranty. Most of that total came from 2 major repairs, bent pushrod like you and both heads leaking coolant into the intake. The entire top end of my engine was rebuilt with new parts at around 72k miles (60k is warranty limit). If it wasn't for my service manager I would no longer be a GM owner. He's had my back the entire time I've owned this truck. Personally, I wouldn't settle for 30% from the dealership. I think you've got an argument that the camshaft had lobe issues after the first or second repair under warranty. It took a little while to show back up, but to have the same issue 3 times to me says it's more than coincidence. It's a negotiation at this point and the dealership gave you their first offer at 30%. I'd push for more help from them and ask they get GM involved as well and try to match their help at a minimum. Maybe you'll land at 40% dealership, 40% GM, 20% your pocket.1 point

Your comment about having enough ass came at the right time, I was dying laughing. Rough morning when you’re late to work because your 2.5 year old had a fit because her spoon didn’t match the color of her bowl.1 point

Yea, someone must have put them on it because they wanted 20"s. The tires are rated for less weight that GM used. 17 inch and 20 inch were a 121 load index tire, the 18 inch was a 124 load index. The load carrying ability of the 18 inch tire is hundreds of pounds higher per tire, hence why 1 tons only were built with 18 inch wheels. On the new 2020+up, its 18 inch or 20 inch as the tires they picked for both are 125 and 126 load index.1 point

Yup. People flee one state and then vote to bring the same policies to their new state. You hope these people connect the dots, but they simply don’t want to. They live a fantasy. After all, these are the same folks who handed “Cuomo the slug” an Emmy, and praised his Covid response. I know some of us here were screaming the truth from day one and getting ignored. Same for this downright disgusting closure of schools. Always get proven right in the end. But it’s a shame it takes so long.1 point

So that lift kit was just to raise the front? I thought it already came with a factory 2” lift. I hadn’t really paid much attention. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I just posted a thread about the same thing. Just found my answer. Gas it is!! I'll be towing a 33ft 8500 pounds me my wife and 11 year old daughter. Going from a 2019 1500 5.3 to the 2500 6.6 gas, I belive that should be a good difference and plenty enough power, plus the best thing imo, the 2500 alone has enough ass on it to not be shoved around.1 point

Well that is going to change, i seriously don't see how anyone can't stomach living in any of their larger cities today, if you watch only tv media you are not getting the full picture of that state right now and how damaged it really is. Disgusting what the politicians have done to the place, it is criminal imo as much of the states problems are self inflicted and perpetuated by a less than brilliant voting base that allows it to continue to take place. And Grumpy i hate to tell you but many of these morons who helped bring California to this state of disfunction with their votes, now can't stand it themselves, and guess what state they are moving too....1 point

I can't really provide any insight based on my own experience, but I have been on this forum for a few months now and my needs are very similar to yours. With that said, based on the input of many others around here, I ordered my 2500 gas a couple of weeks ago. My basic needs were hauling a 27" TT loaded to 8-9k, plus a family of 4 and a loaded truck bed. Around here elevations may get to 4-5K in the White Mountains. We camp 10-12 times a year and I put roughly 12k miles a year. I think the gas engine will be more than adequate for my needs, let alone your lighter TT. I would say that the exhaust brake is not necessary for such a light load and if tow/haul mode does not adequately shift and use the engine for downhill braking, I would just put the truck in manual mode and downshift so the engine could help slow me down. Just my 2 cents.1 point

So I went ahead and ordered 8 samples of every burgundy metallic wrap I could find on the market and there’s only one that can pass for close. Here’s a comparison picture between all candidate colours. Yes some are out to lunch, some advertised colours did not match real product. Clear winner is 4th sample from left. ORACAL Series 970RA High Gloss Red Brown Metallic Vinyl Wrap Film W/Rapid Air | 970RA-369. Here is a picture with strong direct sunlight. As you can see doesn’t quite get as red, stays a little more orange. Here is a picture in lower light conditions. Camera seemed to pick up a bigger difference than my eye. Lower light the vinyl doesn’t get quite as dark as paint. Overall I’m very happy with the colour. It is more than close enough for me to pull the trigger. I have placed an order and plan on wrapping bumpers and grill soon. Stay tuned. Hope this helps the Sonoma red guys and gals out there that were wondering. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I believe I used the part number on the existing part. I googled “battery fuse block 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe” and found numerous choices. Best to verify by entering your vehicle information on whichever website you’re searching on.1 point

I like it! Wish they would color match the AT4. I hate the black plastic on the fenders, only thing that looks cheap on my truck.1 point

Sure did waste a lot of time making this video as I don't see your point on none of this. Did you ever think that Silverado and GMC is made on the same assembly line and figuring out what infotainment system to put in each truck so the picture matches the model truck would lead to many mix ups, there are like 8 Silverado's and then a GMC coming down the line behind the Silverado's. The whole AWD thing just had me shaking my head and the cup holders, really?. I am surprised you didn't pick up on the colors of the paint as GMC has one name for a color and Silverado has a different name for the same exact color.1 point
-
My 2020 silverado ltz z71 displays a Silverado on the camera screen for all views where a truck is in the picture. You may need to alert your dealer to this issue, perhaps you have an incorrect software version. I can't even begin on how different 4wd auto is from an AWD system. I suggest you read up on the differences between a 4wd system and an AWD system. Cupholders? There are more than 6 to begin with, there is one cup holder in each door and the additional spaces in the doors can be used for cans and bottles too. The center space up front between the cup holders can accommodate bottles and cans too. This whole video just has me dumbfounded. Seems like poorly presented joke rather than a video of actual problems.1 point

I also have a Lew Tune. Yes he sells tuners and tunes. Lew is the best, service is fast and his tunes are spot on. I have 2018 GMC Sierra SLT 4x4 with 6.2l and he really made it a different truck. You will not regret using Lew. Just my $.021 point

Finally pulled the trigger and gave my 2017 Silverado 1500 Rally 1 another upgrade. Thanks to @pgamboa and White Automotive and Media I was able to retrofit the Denali cluster and new leather steering wheel into my truck.? I was able to achieve controls from the steering wheel to my aftermarket radio as well! Huge plus. ? I'm very happy with how this turned out. ?1 point

I have, but the service manager at the dealership will be your biggest help. If he/she can prove you have kept the truck in good condition, have the service records from them, they can help acquire assistance for you.1 point

It's for the navigation to help load maps. I wouldn't remove it, I made that mistake in my 2021 Denali and got a pop-up error for weeks afterwards when trying to load maps that finally went away. So yea, I'd let it be unless you need to manually update the map software which I think is when you'd only have to remove it. Hope this helps Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk1 point

The dealer is right, you have the ultra rare "Droopy Grille edition Silverado." ? Got to love those dealers, the "they all do that." dealers. I can't imagine they can stick to their guns if you push it, and you should push it. I know it's unfair to the good dealers, and there are some, but this is an example of why there is so much talk about stealerships on these boards.1 point
