Yupp, safety is the reason for not wanting to dig down to find a screen for HVAC, and a reason to let the phone take a message when driving.

Brake Failure, Top Speed of 43 MPH
redwngr replied to Justinrb70's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
What did the dealer say? If she 'lost all braking capabilities' I hope she is alright and got the truck towed from that location. The brake messages are either a fault with the brakes, or a fault with the sensing system. If the truck lost all brakes, the sensing system was doing it's thing. -
I'm one of those that is positive the speed limits come from a database and not from camera. Many many many times I have driven in locations where the limit shown on the dash was wrong -- even though we had driven past signs that cameras would have been able to read. There are several places in my 'usual' travel areas that speed limits have change and new signs installed. The truck still displays the old speed limits. I also drive some places often enough that I know where the speed limit changes. Sometimes traffic is heavy enough that me and the camera don't get a chance to see the speed limti sign -- speed limit displayed by truck changes anyway. No way speed limit is camera based. I'm sure they must update the database (in the newer vehicles that use googlemaps ) from time to time.

We have an '21 acadia and a '23 sierra. Both are upper trims. Both can access and control HVAC settings from the screen. (I just went out and verified the screen can do control -- we NEVER use the screen controls, so I wanted to be sure.) IMO, needing to access a different screen to be able to run the HVAC is the stupidest thing the young designers ever came up with. Large (reasonably) buttons and knobs are the way to go. They are always always accessible without having to change screens. HVAC control is one of the things that gets full consideration when we select a vehicle. If it forces finding a screen or if it has tiny buttons/knobs, the vehicle gets removed from consideration. I also refuse to 'talk' to my vehicles.

For 2024 and 2025 model 2500 models, the small mirrors are specifically called out as 'flat, not convex', on the passenger side. Trailering mirrors are still flat on top, convex on bottom. 2024 2500 shows:

Oil filter confusion
redwngr replied to Jimbeau's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
Perhaps one is a copy of PF26 and the other PF63? A couple years ago, GM changed the recommendation for several applications from PF26 to PF63. They indicate that PF63 is preferred but that PF26 is acceptable when PF63 is not available. The PF63 filter is 3/4 inches (19 mm) narrower than the PF26 filter, but it has a taller pleat height, which maximizes volume efficiency and cold flow performance. (Fig. 7) Fig. 7 Service Information and the Parts Catalog will be updated shortly. For more information and part numbers, refer to #PIP5870. I generally use Delco filters, but I don't buy them at a dealer. 'Free' oil change is really a 'pre-paid' oil change. Might as well make use of it. Doesn't have to be at the dealer that sold the vehicle. -
5.3 squashed y-pipe
redwngr replied to code-man26's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
Flattened pipe is by design. They've been doing it this way for years. It's not getting worse from being dripped on or from driving in the rain or running thru the carwash etc etc https://gm-techlink.com/?p=13456 Exhaust Pipe Shaped to Avoid Low Contact July 30, 2020 A quick look at the exhaust pipe crossover section on 2019-2020 Silverado and Sierra models equipped with a V6 or V8 engine shows that it is not a completely round shape as other parts of the pipe. (Fig. 27) The unique shape of the exhaust pipe is by design. The kinks or shape of the pipe does not indicate the pipe is damaged. Fig. 27 The exhaust pipe is distinctly formed in order to make it higher from the ground than the adjacent frame members. (Fig. 28) Due to its unique shape, it is not the lowest part on the vehicle and is protected by the frame from contact while traversing over areas with low ground clearance, which helps prevent it from being struck by objects passing under the vehicle. While driving off road, for example, an object would strike the frame first. Fig. 28 The design of the crossover section of the exhaust pipe is hydroformed, or shaped by hydraulic pressure, to an ovate shape that has the same cross-section as a round part of the pipe. There is no flow restriction from the shape and it does not affect engine performance in any way. (Fig. 29) Fig. 29 -
You must have the 'rain sensing' wipers. Mine will do that occasionally, if I forget to shut them off.

Hitting 100k miles on 3.0
redwngr replied to mark1968's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Full size SUV doesn't switch from LM2 to LZO until they start building the 2025 model. They've changed the belt recommendation from 150,000 to 200,000 at time of LZO release.. Both LM2 and LZO use same part number. John Barta talked about the change in recommendation if a video interview -
Welp, the CV axle is leaking on my brand new 2024
redwngr replied to Aubie_01's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
I'd guess complete shaft too. With my '23 the parts guy checked availability of the boot and it showed back ordered - with no 'expected' date. The complete shaft was in there shop the next morning. They called, and I was available so brought truck back and got it installed (the day after it was ordered). Running GM 4wd pickups since '95. This was the first CV problem - and it happened in the first 6 months... -
Gauge can be misleading, for sure. DEF is used as a ratio of the fuel burned -- should be about 2% - so about 2 gallons of DEF for every 100 gallons of fuel. My first DEF truck, was a 2011. 2011's didn't have a gauge at all -- just the 1000 mile to empty and 300 miles to empty warnings. Anyway -- when they do get to empty they then start a 500 miles to speed limit countdown which gives lots of time to get def. Most are going to need fuel within 500 miles anyway, and if diesel is available DEF will be available too. I've intentionally taken my L5P and LM2 trucks to 'empty' just to see how the messages work. Yes, I wasn't far from home/rescue if things went south. Haven't been able to make that happen (yet) with this LZO -- but I have got it close, and I fill at a commercial, metered, bulk location so I can get a better handle on how much DEF it is using. Truck is running better than 29 mpg lifetime, and I've added def about every 7000 miles. Lifetime fuel was running 29.6 when the last def fill was done 29.6 / 1379 x 100% = 2.1% Last fill, only the last partial segment was still 'on'.

Auto start/ stops works with one keyfob
redwngr replied to ZenSquared's topic in 2021-2026 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon & Escalade
Not sure if this helps, but there is a list of items that prevent the auto stop/start from engaging. To maintain vehicle performance, other conditions may cause the engine to automatically restart before the brake pedal is released. Auto Stops may not occur and/or Auto Starts may occur because: . The climate control settings require the engine to be running to cool or heat the vehicle interior. . The vehicle battery needs to charge. . The vehicle battery has recently been disconnected. . Minimum vehicle speed has not been reached since the last Auto Stop. . The accelerator pedal is pressed. . The engine or transmission is not at the required operating temperature. . The outside temperature is not in the required operating range. . The vehicle is shifted out of D (Drive) to any gear other than P (Park). . Certain driver modes have been selected. . The vehicle is on a steep hill or grade. . The driver door has been opened or the driver seat belt has been unbuckled. . The hood has been opened. . The Auto Stop has reached the maximum allowed time. When mine doesn't engage (if I haven't turned it off) it is usually because outside temp is out of range, eng and / or trans temps not in range or vehicle interior is too far from set temperature hot / too cold and HVAC needs to be running I've never heard of it not working if a certain fob is use -- and suspect that's not the cause.- 1 reply

Transmission cooler options / necessity
redwngr replied to 23RST's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
The temp they run is the centre of the transmission temperature gauge range.... The oil they use (Dex ULV) is different from what the 8 speed uses (Dex HP) and from what the 6 speed used (Dex VI). -
Maybe the light sensor on the dash isn't working. You're using these buttons? Usual complaint I hear about is that the dash can (especially the centre screen) won't go dark enough at night. When the dash is not dark enough at night it messes with night vision, making more difficult to see down the road.

Your truck will have 3 stickers on the drivers doorpost. Tire label is part way down, lists tire size it was born with and pressures for running at max rated loading. The two at the very bottom will have trailer ratings, payload ratings etc. The ratings are VIN specific (vin will be on the labels too)

EDIT -- I reread you post and see I didn't actually answer your question... Swipe that part of the screen up or down. As you've found, the on rhs indicate the number of screens currently available to occupy that space. Mine screen always comes back up the way it was previously set-up. If running google maps -- there would be and arrow on the rh edge of the map screen. Pressing it will make the map full screen. I don't see the arrow in your pic, and the pic shows iphone -- so guessing you're running carplay and carplay doesn't support that map feature. I normally don't run AA or CP. You can also put the map on the rhs. Full screen is not available on all apps. Audio, for example, only plays RH or LH, but not full screen (an therefore does not display the arrow/chevron) LH map showing arrow/chevron Full screen map RH map. Audio does not have arrow/chevron to switch to full screen.

With a regular cab, they currently make standard bed and long bed 1500's. The standard bed is the (approx 6.6 ft) bed that was called short bed prior to the release of the short (5'8") 20 years ago. For 1500 these are currently available. Standard bed crew is only available with 4wd. For 2500 double cab is available with long or standard. Crew standard can be 2wd or 4wd Short box crew not available. Reg cab standard is not available And for those wondering about 3500

Under hood ignition power source?
redwngr replied to Unwrntd's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Major electrical system changes for the refreshed 1500's (2022.5) The other posters have trucks with the previous electrical system -
2wd crewcab shortbox (CC10543), with 3.0 and NHT (max tow) is the only configuration that gets 13,300 conventional tow. (5th wheel is 9000 for that configuration) GM suggests 10 - 15 % tongue load, so it needs 1,330 - 1,995 lbs payload It has 1950. Lots a variation and differences in the ratings depending on the specifics of the truck.

Have you asked for 'price and delivery' at your favorite GM dealer. Not sure if they currently have this, but they used to have a GM chart that showed what mirrors could be added to what trucks, with the corresponding part numbers for everything needed. 2024 1500 mirrors:
