  1. I order, but without any deposit or signed agreement. Some dealers won't do that. Some dealers want a 'guarantee' of purchase, but won't give the same guarantee on the trade value (WTF? who's the one that is supposed to have the knowledge of the auto market?) Dealer I use knows I'm serious if I'm doing that exercise. So far, we've always been able to come to an agreement. They always tell me that what I order is something that they can easily sell or dealer trade, so that have no issue getting one in. Yes, they always do a search and try and find the same/similar in district inventory. To help explain why this is such a big deal, let’s first dive into how orders and incentives usually work. Traditionally, if a customer walks into a dealer and places a new order, they don’t know what incentives will be available upon taking delivery. While the model they’re looking at might offer incentives during the month in which their new order is placed, those incentives could go away by the time the vehicle is produced and delivered. This can be a major sticking point for customers. Production of their new vehicle can take months, and given just how cumbersome and vague GM vehicle tracking can be (as GM Authority covered previously), it’s uncertain when their new vehicle might arrive, let alone what incentives may be offered by the time they go to take delivery. Will the incentives be better or worse than when they placed their original order? This critical information is simply not known. However, the 2021 Chevy Silverado is a complete break from this. As GM Authority has learned, new Chevy Silverado 1500 orders placed in the month of December, 2020, offer the option to lock in December incentives. This is basically unheard of. It’s possible the break from tradition is a reflection of low dealer inventory, which has resulted in a flurry of new vehicle orders. Alternatively, buyers can elect to take the incentives offered on their new 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 when they take delivery, whatever they may be, giving them further options to save. The option to lock in the December incentives on new vehicle orders is currently only available for the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500. It’s uncertain if the option to lock in incentives will be available for new orders placed in January or any month thereafter. As a reminder, new sold retail orders (SROs) on Silverado 1500 models are limited to the Crew Cab configuration through Q1 2021 production. This is good news for anyone looking to order a new Chevy Silverado 1500, especially considering the “employee pricing” incentive currently available, as well as any other incentives that that could be available, depending on the model selected.   2. I'm not sure it does what is suggested. Reads to me like it has abilities similar to apps like waze that let the icon be picked from car or motorcycle icons etc. When a profile (or profiles) are created, a profile picture can be picked from those available on the truck. (trees/flowers/weave pattern/ etc) The position indicator will still be a circle with an arrow indicating direction, and the profile picture will up inside the circle in the position indicator on the map. I haven't figured out a way to add to the 'profile pictures' or to change the icon from the circle with picture inside. The settings menu from inside the nav app seems to be the same as the one that can be reached from settings on the home screen. I'll also be following thread to hear other suggestions.

The is also a test procedure so tech can see if there is a problem that needs to be corrected. https://gm-techlink.com/?p=13727 Delayed Transmission Engagement September 30, 2020 Some 2018-2019 ATS, CTS, CT6, Corvette; 2018-2020 Express; 2018-2021 Camaro, Colorado, Silverado, Canyon, Savana, Sierra; and 2021 CT4 models equipped with the 8L45 or 8L90 8-speed automatic transmission (RPO M5T, M5N, M5U, M5X, MQD, MQE) may have a delayed engagement condition when the transmission is shifted from Park to Reverse or Park to Drive after the vehicle has been sitting with the engine off. (Fig. 12) The delayed engagement typically occurs after several hours or, more commonly, overnight. Fig. 12 The condition may seem to be delayed gear engagement, a slipping transmission, or delayed engagement followed by a harsh engagement. The transmission is designed to allow three seconds to complete a garage shift (shifting from Park to Reverse or Park to Drive). If the engine speed is increased before the transmission has engaged, the garage shift may be harsh. After the initial shift, transmission operation will be normal for the subsequent engagements. The condition will not occur again until the vehicle sits again with the engine off for several hours or overnight. Delayed Engagement Test Use GDS2 to monitor engine RPM and the transmission input speed sensor (ISS) prior to starting the engine. Start the engine with the transmission in Park and shift the vehicle from Park to Drive or Park to Reverse with the service brake applied. The ISS should drop to zero within three seconds, which is the clutch engagement time. Recording the GDS session log can be useful in diagnosing the condition. Delayed engagement of Park to Reverse or Park to Drive is present if the time difference between the gear selected (Pt. 1) and the transmission input shaft speed reaching 0 RPMs (Pt. 2) exceeds three seconds. (Fig 13) Fig. 13 In most cases, the transmission will engage in three seconds or less, which is considered an acceptable engagement time and no repairs should be attempted. TIP: The vehicle should only be evaluated after sitting for a minimum of eight hours but less than 24 hours and at an ambient temperature of 50°F (10°C) or above. If engagement time exceeds three seconds, attempt to learn the C3 – Drive and C5 Reverse – Clutch using the following steps: Allow the transmission sump temperature to rise between 20° and 30°C (68° and 86°F). Do not apply the accelerator pedal. Perform 20 Park to Reverse shifts or 20 Park to Drive shifts releasing the brake pedal with each shift, allowing the vehicle to roll 5-10 feet (1.5-3.0 m) per engagement into gear. If the learn procedure does not correct the condition, disassemble the transmission and inspect the 1-3-5-6-7 Clutch (C3) for a delay into Drive condition and inspect the 4-5-6-7-8 Reverse Clutch (C5) for a delay into Reverse condition. The respective clutch plates and seals should be inspected for wear and or damage and repaired accordingly. If the vehicle has less than 2,500 miles (4,000 km), the transmission or valve body has been replaced or a clutch repair has been performed, follow the clutch learn procedure in Bulletin #16-NA-019 to learn the C5 Reverse and C3 Drive Clutch. For additional information on a delayed transmission engagement condition, refer to Bulletin #20-NA-187.
  4. When something doesn't work right after a vehicle is worked on, it's usually related to whatever work was being done . Even when it seems unlikely. I'm curious to hear the outcome.
  5. iirc, there is a poster that works for the company that supplies the shutters, and posted that there is nothing that detects that they opened or closed after being commanded to do so --- so for an aftermarket / high performance application it would be possible to trim the slats to suit.
  6. for the 3.0 The intake manifold houses the integrated intercooler. The intercooler system includes an air cooler/heat exchanger built into the intake, a charge air cooler (CAC) radiator assembled in the front fascia, and an electric coolant pump. The CAC coolant pump provides operational and diagnostic feedback to the ECM. (Fig. 3)
  7. Did you get it looked at yet? My usual purchase location is 10 or more miles from where the truck gets parked. I usually top it off into the fill tube. In 15+ years running LLY, LMM, LML, L5P and now LM2 diesels I've never had a leak after filling or any other time.
  8. For 2019 and 2020, AT4 was available in double cab, and crew short and standard bed. It was only available as 4wd. For 2021MY it is only available in crew. It is now available in 2wd and 4wd. -- 4wd is available in either short or standard bed length -- 2wd is short bed only
  9. The one supplied is for fuel -- -according to the 3.0L diesel supplement. (page 22) Filling the Tank with a Portable Gas Can If the vehicle runs out of fuel and must be filled from a portable gas can: 1. Locate the capless funnel adapter. 2. Insert and latch the funnel into the capless fuel system. 3. Remove and clean the funnel adapter and return it to the storage location. There are 2 flappers in the fuel neck. Pump nozzle is long enough to open both. Not sure why the call it 'gas' in the diesel supplement -- other than it was a copy/paste from the text in the regular owners manual? In any case the supplied adapter/funnel is for fuel, not def.

HD's went from 11 zerks to 9 zerks when the new chassis came out for the 2011 model year (same year DEF was added and the LML duramax replaced the LMM) From Dunn's post, the 20+ HD chassis still has 9 zerks. The LD pickups don't have zerks. I'm not sure when they quit using them, but it was a long time back. IIRC, it created a lot of chatter --- kinda like this thread.

  12. Do you know if the 2 factory fluids are identical? (Motorcraft ULV ATF and Dexron ULV AFTF)? (would make sense to me that they would be produced by the same supplier but put in different containers) As I understand it Ford did the design and has the patents, but each company did their own electronics tuning/controlling the 10R80 / 10L80 and each are doing their own manufacturing of the gearbox. It's not inconceivable that one or the other has changed an additive in the ATF package. I find it interesting that GM uses a different fluid in each of the 6, 8 and 10 speed transmissions. 6-Speed - DEXRON-VI Automatic Transmission Fluid. 8-Speed - DEXRON-HP Automatic Transmission Fluid. 10-Speed - DEXRON ULV Automatic Transmission Fluid.
  13. 'Infant mortality' can happen with anything. Bathtub curve is well known in the the reliability world. It's the number one reason I wouldn't take a brand new anything - truck/camper/boat/motorcycle/tent/etc/etc - on vacation without first doing some sort of shakedown/break-in. Sucks when a failure of any kind happens to something you own -- especially disappointing when it's new. IMHO, how the dealer/company deals with the failure is more important than that the failure occurred.   16. Wired android auto was announced in 2014 by google, so it wasn't running wirelessly in 2007... Wireless AA was announced at the 2018 CES... OTOH, GM trucks have had Bt connectivity for phones for years.
  17. Speed limit is only displayed on roads that have the limit in the database. (truck is not 'reading' the signs as if drives by) Same deal on portable gps units that have limit display. Same deal with Waze. Same deal on dash displays that show speed limit. Occurs more often on minor roads. Especially if the road doesn't have posted speed limit signs. 'Here', no signs means the default limit is in force. 30mph /50 kph in town, 50 mph / 80 kph in rural areas. I guess that means dashes mean the default is in effect? In Ontario there are a couple sections of limited access highway that they have increased the maximum speed as a test. I was on one of them recently, and the display showed the normal speed limit, not the higher 'test' limit that is posted. Probably there are also locations that have changed to a lower speed limit, that are not in the database. Blaming the vehicle probably won't stand up in court if there is a posted location that has had the HUD or dash displaying higher than actual speed limit. At the end of the day, the court is gonna say the driver is responsible for the speed of travel....
  18. Imho, if parking on a slope that is steep enough for the vehicle to roll in neutral, then the parking brake should be used. This is to prevent damage to the parking pawl, but also to prevent it from getting stuck in park. The 'hill start assist' system will prevent it from rolling -- but only for a few seconds. Reading the original post I wondered if maybe it wasn't in park, or pawl was broken/not engaged and it rolled when HSA released. HSA scenario doesn't explain what happened with Pau's 3500/Allison. I assume the thread OP won't ever follow-up with the outcome. Hasn't visited since Sept 2016.
  19. FWIW, the Duramax supplements all say the same / similar as above. (04.5 LLY, '10 LMM, '11 LML, '18 L5P, '21 LM2) From the 04.5 supplement - "When the outside temperature drops below 0° F (–18°C), use of the engine coolant heater is recommended." From the '11 supplement - "The engine coolant heater can provide easier starting and better fuel economy during engine warm-up in cold weather conditions at or below −18°C (0°F)." LM2 wording is identical to the 04.5 wording. GM claims the LM2 will start unaided at -20F. While the owner’s manual states an engine block heater should be used in temperatures less than 0°F/–18°C, it isn’t vital until much lower temperatures of less than –13°F/–25°C." We've had lots of older mechanical diesels around here that needed to be plugged in when it was at / below 30 to 40*F. Some still needed a sniff of ether to start, or use of glow plugs (but not both) and ran like crap til they warmed up. " Sorry about the hijack / side-track of the tread, but point is GM gives the same block heater temperature range usage recommendation for the diesels - and has done so for many years. That they are not being required above 0*F is nothing new. imho, cold weather starting ability is another benefit of the high pressure common rail injection systems. One difference on the diesels (3.0L and 6.6L dmax) , the block heater (rpo KO5) is included with the engine option. (Presumably same for the 2.8L)
  20. Used prices / trade-in values are unusually high here as well. New lots have new inventory improved somewhat, but are still way way below normal levels. Dealers are parking vehicles creatively to make it look like they have more vehicles than they do.

  22. Appears to be standard on all trims. Manual says: Tire Fill Alert (If Equipped) This feature provides visual and audible alerts outside the vehicle to help when inflating an underinflated tire to the recommended cold tire pressure. When the low tire pressure warning light comes on: 1. Park the vehicle in a safe, level place. 2. Set the parking brake firmly. 3. Place the vehicle in P (Park). 4. Add air to the tire that is underinflated. The turn signal lamp will flash. When the recommended pressure is reached, the horn sounds once and the turn signal lamp will stop flashing and briefly turn solid. Repeat these steps for all underinflated tires that have illuminated the low tire pressure warning light. If the tire is overinflated by more than 35 kPa (5 psi), the horn will sound multiple times and the turn signal lamp will continue to flash for several seconds after filling stops. To release and correct the pressure, while the turn signal lamp is still flashing, briefly press the center of the valve stem. When the recommended pressure is reached, the horn sounds once. If the turn signal lamp does not flash within 15 seconds after starting to inflate the tire, the tire fill alert has not been activated or is not working. If the hazard warning flashers are on, the tire fill alert visual feedback will not work properly. The TPMS will not activate the tire fill alert properly under the following conditions: . There is interference from an external device or transmitter. . The air pressure from the inflation device is not sufficient to inflate the tire. . There is a malfunction in the TPMS. . There is a malfunction in the horn or turn signal lamps. . The identification code of the TPMS sensor is not registered to the system. . The battery of the TPMS sensor is low. If the tire fill alert does not operate due to TPMS interference, move the vehicle about 1 m (3 ft) back or forward and try again. If the tire fill alert feature is not working, use a tire pressure gauge.

  24. Here, diesel is quite a bit cheaper than high test. DEF, from a bulk location (truck stop) is about $3.00 usgal. Both 6.6's I ran got 1100 -1200 mpg, doing primarily daily driver work. Based on posts here and other forums, it's appears that the def indicator is a bad way to try and determine mileage -- so I took it to a bulk pump and topped it off and recorded the odometer reading. Someday I'll be able to post def mpg for this one, along with info about what the def level/range indicator has shown. So far (but it's early) it's using less fuel than the 6.6. I'll be disappointed if the def usage isn't as good or better than the 6.6L
