Gm Supplier Discount: Worth It?

Recommended Posts

My work offers a GM supplier discount. I went to the website though, and it seems like they only knock 2g off a 42,000 LTZ silverado...

Is the Discount worth it, or should I just haggle?

Or do I haggle, then mention the GM Discount?

Or can I haggle with the GM discount?

When I was looking at new silverados and sierras back in April, I was told by multiple dealers that the supplier discount is lower than soneone could haggle to.

I thought that it was just an additional incentive, but when I started to haggle they said that the suppler price was the rock bottom price.

I could be wrong but that was my experience..

The supplier discount has worked for me once and once it didn't. I suggest that you haggle out your best price and then ask about the supplier discount. Since you already know what the supplier discount will get you on the truck you want, try haggling without it and see where you get.

I used a supplier discount buying my truck. I went to (literally) 8 different chevy dealerships and tried to haggle off even more from the supplier discount. Every dealership said they could not further discount off that price and I walked out of every dealership. Finally, the last dealer gave me an additional $1,500 in holdback

I used it on my 2000 and 2010. I felt like I got a fair deal each time and was happy. Thats all that matters dont expect to get a $42K truck for in the low 30's.

I have used the supplier discount to buy my GM vehicles. If I remember correctly, you are suppose to tell the dealer up front that you are using a supplier discount. Then they are suppose to show you the supplier price for the vehicle. The dealer doesn't have to honor the supplier discount. So if you go through the ordeal of haggling for a low price, then whip out the supplier discount, you could run the risk of pissing off the dealer and losing the deal. I usually settle for the supplier price and then haggle on my trade in price. If the dealer has any leeway, he can add it the trade in.

My salesman asked me if I had any discounts (supplier / employee) and I told him no. He then asked if I was a member of a credit union, which I was, and informed me of the discount. When he quoted me the discounted price, I informed him I was looking for a larger discount. After some BS about how they were forbidden to go lower than the supplier price, he went to his manager and got the One Time, Special, Justfor Me, Lower than Supplier Pricing price. In the end, it comes down to market conditions. Back in May nothing was selling, especially full size trucks, and it was a buyer's market. I got them to knock off another $500 in addition to the Supplier Discount.

Back in 04, my wife qualified for supplier pricing through her work. At the time, we were buying an Equinox. The salesman told us that if we went with the supplier program, the price was the price. When we agreed to just do a straight deal, he beat the supplier price. :lurk:

So maybe what I'll do is haggle first. I'm assuming the price you get on the supplier website is the price they'll offer? I think I have to call GM first, and they'll send me the pricing info.

So I'll know the "Best" price per the supplier discount, and if I can't beat it by haggling, I can go back in and show them the GM price???

The price on the supplier website is the price that you will get for that vehicle in the dealer's inventory.

This is from the supplier FAQs concerning the discount: This program is available through all participating U.S. GM Dealers and is voluntary on the part of the dealers. Dealer participation is on a vehicle line basis. Please inform your dealer of your intention to use the GM Supplier Discount during your first contact with your dealer. If your dealer elects not to participate, you may visit another GM Dealer.

I don't know if you want to spend hours in a dealership trying to haggle a lower price, then use the supplier discount. Unless you like that sort of thing. You will still be able to use any incentives with the supplier pricing.

When I bought my 2008 Crew Cab (summer of 2008), I got it for about 11,500 less than sticker. That was including 3,500 in GM card discount. They don't allow you to use both a supplier discount and GM card discount.

When I bought my truck I used the Supplier discount along with every other deal they had going at the time but the dealer also wasn't moving many trucks at the time and wanted to make the sale.

............Bringing this old topic back to the top....

After reading this topic, and several others on different forums, it seems that some guys use the supplier pricing and others don't.

I qualify for a GM supplier discount, but real un-sure whether to tell the sales man that when i first walk in to the dealership.

Any others out there care to comment......

I would see what kind of deal I could work out first. You may be able to get a lower price than the supplier discount would offer, that's a rock solid price and dealers won't budge from it....See what you can do first.

I don't know if I just got lucky with mine or if the fleet side of the dealership does things differently but I gave the fleet sales guy a list of what I wanted, told him what on the list I had to have and how much I wanted to spend out the door. I told him I was eligible for GM Supplier Discount, he took off how ever much that was and pulled out a couple of other rebates they had going on and got me within about $1500 of what I wanted to spend. I say let them know that you can get the supplier discount if that helps them lower the price, tell them what you want to spend and what you want to spend it one. Then see how close they can get.
