What Were They Thinking In 2010?

My '03 (custom ordered and delivered in August of 2002) has the DL8 option which is all about the outside mirrors. Included is curbside assist, perimeter lighting, auto dimming, heated and built in directional.

 

Fast forward 8 years and the new DL8 has NONE of that except heat......RUFKM???

 

The rearview mirror in '03 was auto dimming......2010 NOT THERE

 

4 wheel disc brakes in '03, now a drum style rear brake in 2010.....RUFKM???

 

I am so close to backing out of the 2010. I can't even order ANY of the mirrors the way they came in '03. At least not on a SLE package. And I didn't think they even made drum brakes any more.

 

Maybe a tin can Toyota is more in order!!!

The mirror package you want is the DL3. In the 900s, DL8 is nothing but standard mirrors w/ heat I believe. The DL3s have curb view assist, integrated signal, heat, auto dimming (drivers side) and power folding features.

 

In addition, I too found it questionable when going from my 2002 (with rear discs) to my 2007 with rear drums. I can assure you, the 2007 stops better (both empty and loaded/towing) than my 2002 ever dreamed of. My dad has a 2004 with 4 wheel discs, and the 2007 beats that one as well. On a good note, on the GMT-900's at least you wont have to pay $300 per side for rotors when your rear parking brake assembly retainer fails.

Don't know much about the mirror stuff, but I know you can get disc rear brakes on some pickups for 2010. Maybe it's only on the NHT 6.2L version or some higher GVW package, but I KNOW you can get rear disk brakes!

 

I seem to recall that some or most of the other mirror features you mention still exist. Might be tied to another option code??

I was told by a dealer that the disc to drums witch (which iirc was done in 04 or 05) was done because of problems with the 03s locking up the rear discs.. they were providing little to no benefit to the driver since most of the time they were not hauling loads.

 

 

reality is.. they probably cost reduced it.. just like the under hood light..

Most is about $$$. They break out those features and charge you a boat load in the upgrade options. Allows them to increase margin on the ride.

 

Problem with the rear discs is their implemenation was bad. The GMT-800 disc were nortorious for having sand/small rocks being kicked up, and falling into the pads. When you applied the brakes, they would gouge the crap out of the rotors. Don't believe me, check any GMT-800 truck. Run your finger down the rotor.

 

Disc brakes typicaly outperform drums because they are self adjusting. Unfortunately, if the rotors are gouged, then you lose braking. If you look at the lineups, the "car" version of the GMT-900's (like my 08 SD) come with discs, the work trucks, with drums.

I love my 07 and and it has the auto dimming rearview but its an LT2 and I am not sure what trim comes on standard. I have the rear drum and have heard each side.

That would be silly. As much as I like my '06...the changes that occured in 2007 trump mirrors and the non-issue of drum brakes

when my 2010 came in the only feature I was upset it didnt have was the turn signal mirrors. You had to get an LTZ to get them. In 09 they were std on LT models

 

Also the 6.2L adds 4 wheel disc
