Supercharged Denali

Hey guys so a family member has got a 2005 Yukon Denali XL with a (vortec?) supercharger on it, and he mentioned to me that he has ordered an '11 so he needs to get rid of this one...So that got me thinking...

The kicker is that it's got 168,000 miles on it, and he's had the blower on it for the last couple years...He said he'd want 10,700 for it...

In your opinion, should I shy away from this truck due to high miles?

I'd buy a vehicle that was well maintained for 160k miles over a vehicle that was abused / neglected for 50k miles.

With that said... you being a family member gives you the luxury of knowing the previous owner.

So was the vehicle well maintained and cared for? That means a lot more than the mileage.

I would be cautious but not shy away. Does it have any tasty features other than the supercharger? Leather? Sound system? Wheels?

Yeah I think it was maintained pretty well. He bought the truck new too, so I know all of the vehicle history...

It's completely loaded, but the supercharger is the only aftermarket modification.

Our 2003 Tahoe runs like a top and has 178,000 miles. No supercharger though. I'd say a pretty good deal unless he has dogged it.

Sometime people just want something new....that being said, you still have to be somewhat cautious. Dont expect it to be perfect but there might not be a thing wrong with it, the Denali should have the 4L80 right? The 6.0 can take alot

^^I'm not sure which trans it has, I know most half ton stuff has the 4L60, but most half tons also have a 5.3L...

Anyone know?

I found an equivalent truck on autotrader with about the same miles on it for 13,999 (without the supercharger) so I don't think the price is that far off? A supercharger won't add a lot of value to most people (dealers) but it adds something to me, so relative to other trucks out there, it seems to be a pretty good value...

I'm digging around on the web right now trying to figure out what typically fails first in these rigs, but I'm not finding much... Maybe that's a good sign...

Does anyone know what are the most common failed parts with these trucks?

Well worst case you spend a few extra grand on a short block and a rebuild tranny. Then you basically have a new 05 denali with a supercharger.

Personally, I would get on that. Even if it does have a 4L60 in it, those trannys are decent. I know that when you put power to them they break......but when it does, rebuild it right. Until that drive the thing. It does have a lot of miles on it, but if it was taken care of then there wont be any issues.

Thats my $.02

Condition whatsthis.gif</IMG> ValueExcellent $10,875 Good $9,775 Fair $7,825 That is the KBB numbers for trade in.

Me: I would not get it just because I am not a fan of super chargers....and lets face it...you don't put one on and not rip it?

As for the history of the Denali...yea...that is great that a family memeber took "care" of it...but do you want to cross paths...if the Denali takes a course for the worse? is is worth the risk? My rule is that I don't mix in family with business...

its your call...factor in a new supercharger just because it has been on for a while...they are not the most dep.

It should have the 4L65 wich is a HD 4l60. There are a few mods you can add to the tranny to help. A corvette servo as well as a 4th gear billet apply piston and cover. the front diff side bearings are known to wear out. You should be able to hear that or feel vibration when driving it if they are bad. There is a lot of info on Denalis at www.denalitrucks.com
