Factory Order Vs. Buying Off Of The Lot - 2011 Silv/sierra

...Yes they can transfer vehicles but they don't like to and one dealer told me they had to pay a $250 transfer fee. Don't know if that was BS or not.

I've heard the same thing from multiple dealers; charges ranging from $200 - $300 for a transfer.

dealer charging for a transfer??? lol, you need to find a dealer that's a little more "hungry"

I didn't say I was going to pay that. ;)

I think the dealer who had the truck charges the receiving dealer so you will end up paying one way or another. They just won't give you quite as much off. I don't like the idea of a transfer anyway because some kid who doesn't give a crap will probably be sent to drive the truck from the sending dealer and may hot rod the truck during its very first miles.

First off... I'm new to the forum. Currently drive a 2001 Sierra Z71. Looking to step up to a 2011.

I'm typically a used car guy. But with used truck prices as high as they are, it makes since to just buy something new.

Looking at both the Silverados and Sierras. The problem is, I'm not finding anything near what I'd like to purchase. For the type of money I'm getting ready to spend, I don't really want to compromise.

For those that have ordered a truck from the factory before, what are the disadvantages? I've been warned that it may be up to 8 weeks before I can take delivery. And I'll be stuck with what ever incentives are available at that time.

For a factory order, is the dealer cost structure for the truck the same as if it were sitting on their lot? I know I'm going to lose a little leverage negotiating price, but not sure how much.

I always order. I have never seen a truck on a lot that is exactly like I want. All have extra crap I don't want and are missing stuff I do.

When ordering you can get a better deal because:

You don't pay for options you don't want

You can shop around the excact same vehicle to different dealers and get the best price.

Dealer has a little more money to deal with because they get their "holdback" even though the truck is already sold.

Waiting can be good it gives you time to get your accessories (tool boxs, racks, etc) so you don't need to wait for them after you have the truck.

Right now, by biggest risk in ordering one is the incentives. Right now, they're at $2500. Who knows what it will be when I take delivery in a couple of months.

Then this happens to your garage :)

Mine was a factory order. No need to get caught in this mindset trap. Values of cars & trucks don't rise during the course of a model year unless an economic event causes a supply shortage (such as a strike). Unlikely you will pay more by waiting a few weeks. I actually gained extra incentives waiting for delivery.

Ordering was an excellent buying experience. Factory orders take the emotional hype out of the purchase process...no games, no pressure selling, and gives time to independently shop the financing. My dealer even pre-sold my trade. By surprise, was built and delivered in less than 3 weeks. Would purchase this way again in a heartbeat.

Yeah, it looks like I'm going to wait until Jan rolls around and see what the incentives look like before I order. From talking to the dealers, I expect them to be equal or better to what is currently available. A few more weeks doesn't mean much.

Around Oshawa Ontario, the dealers usually have older retired chaps that drive the customer shuttle vans" to transfer the cars/trucks. I don't think it's a budding Jimmie Johnson drivring them.

BTW, I've ordered all the vehicles in my signature. I get what I want.

You'll get the best incentive available between the time you place your order, and when you take delivery, so you really can't lose (unless you take delivery, and the incentives get better the week after!).

Right now, it's $2000 cash or 3.9% for 60 mo. from GM, There's also military discounts or credit union discounts that would also apply. All you need is to belong to a credit union and you can get an additional $2000 discount. At the time, I did this and got $2500 for opening a free account at my local credit union. All this information is right on the www.chevrolet.com website.

So thats an easy $4000 off 2012

What's the credit union discount? I need to look into this.

I am getting $2000 cashback, $1000 loyalty, $1000 trade. Sure would like an extra $2000!

Call your dealer. All you have to do is join a local credit union and you'll get another $2000 off

Waiting to hear back from my dealer. Setup the account on the gm website, and called for info, but it sounds like this is a rebate beyond what a Supplier pricing would be. I negotiated a deal that is about $1100 below invoice, so not sure if this will apply for this dealer. Hopefully! Sure would love more rebates! Crossing my fingers.

When I bought my '11 I got $5700 off between rebates, and got 3.9% by financing with Bank of America.
