Woke up to a white Christmas this morning. Got some snow last night. Thats unusual for here.

About the hand gun...we have instant back ground checks and take them home the same day. The last one I bought took about 20 minutes and I was on my way with it.

Merry Christmas everybody!

You must have well trained kids! When I was little I'd be up very early to wake my parents and ask if it is time to open gifts yet. :sigh: The answer was usually "NO!" until 6 or 7:00.

our checks are different. we need to have a license to own a rifle. with rifles the transfer of ownership is usually pretty quick, within a day or so, hand guns take a bit longer and with the holidays itll probably be a little longer than that. then once transfered i have to get a temporary att, basically a temporary number that allows me to transport it locked with a trigger lock and inside of a case from the purchaser to my house. its a pain in the ass. i need to join a gun range just to get the att to bring the gun to the range otherwise i need to apply for it and wait for it. real pain in the ass our gov is. so in the meantime ill just go shoot some rifles. lol.

were just relaxing from our busy morning, back to the inlaws for dinner tonight, this weekend has started out busy and doesnt end till tomorrow night.

most states have brady's law i thought...you cannot pick up for the hand gun for atleast a week after submitting for a background check...brady was a guy that went and bought a handgun and killed himself

In Mississippi (where EVERYONE has a gun) you just have to fill out the paper work. The dealer calls in the background check and away you go with new firearm in tow.

:sigh:

Gotta Love the Red States

Not all states have this (NH certainly does not). I believe this went away in the free states when the Clinton assault weapons ban expired in '04 (I think it was 2004 at leat). I just fill out the 4473 form for the feds and they do the check over the phone. 15-30 mins later I'm out the door.

James Brady was the press secretary for President Regan and was shot in the head and paralyzed in the attempted assassination of the president. His wife has campaigned for gun control since then. There is no Brady law that says when you can take a hand gun home.

Shortly before 2:30 PM EST, as Reagan walked out of the hotel's T Street NW exit toward his waiting car, Hinckley emerged from the crowd of admirers and fired a Röhm RG-14 .22 cal.[14] blue steel revolver six times in three seconds,[15] missing the President with all six shots.[11] The first bullet hit White House Press Secretary James Brady in the head.[16] The second hit District of Columbia police officer Thomas Delahanty in the back.[16][17][18] The third overshot the president and hit the window of a building across the street. The fourth hit Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy in the abdomen.[16][17] The fifth hit the bullet-resistant glass of the window on the open side door of the president's limousine. The sixth and final bullet ricocheted off the side of the limousine and hit the president in his left underarm, grazing a rib and lodging in his lung, stopping nearly an inch from his heart

We once had a 15 day waiting period in Tennessee but that went away in the early 90s.

yes there is, atleast here in WI...i may have to dig out the law books as i may have mixed up the actual name of the law..the law here was caused by a guy that went into a store and bought a handgun and blew his brains out..the waiting period is to give the person time to rethink suicide or possible other mishaps

You may have a waiting period in YOUR state. States are free to enact them, although most do not. What I am saying is, there is NO federal law requiring a waiting period.

Not many states have a waiting period...
