Just curious what the big difference is between the two, in the market again for an hd truck and ive seen 6.0 trucks with the 145 and dmax,s trucks with only the 105...so whats the deal, and if your truck came with a 105 can you swap it with the 145?

In '04 when I ordered my '05 8.1L, the 105 amp alternator was standard on the gassers and the 145 amp alternator was an option.

The difference is the 150/160 amp unit that is avail. on the 01 and up

VYU optioned GM trucks is a CS-144 unit unlike the 105 amp unit that

is a CS-130 unit.

The CS-144 unit is a lot BIGGER in size than the cs-130. See pics:

A lot of the snowplow guys that wanted to swap their 105s for the

150/160s had to get a wiring adapter (different wiring/plug issue)

from companies like Painless or others and order the alt. brackets

for a VYU (plow prep) equipped truck from GM to install the bigger

150/160 unit in their 01-07 trucks.

Some of the guys who didn't wanna spend the $400+ bucks to do

the swap sought out a good local alternator rebuilder who "pumped up"

(modded) their existing stock 105 amp unit to 160 or so amps for $150

bucks or so.

Unless you're running lots of extra lights with a snowplow, or some mongo audio system with 13 speakers, you'll never challenge the output of a 105 amp alternator. 145 would be total waste of money.

Heck.........The stock 105 units in my gmt-400s couldn't keep up

with the heater fans and the snowplow let alone running the wipers

and beacon light on the headache rack !!!!!!!!!!

 

I had a local alt. shop pump up my stock 105 unit to 175 amps.

 

The 150 in my gmt-800s with the VYU option solved that problem and

the gmt-900s now have 160s with VYU.

your right, i have a HUGE D-class amp, 1500 watt mono-block to be exact with a huge woofer, 6 lights that can be on at once and an air compressor. with either two running at once the 105 could NOT keep up at all. finally i went with dual batteries and a 145. world of a difference. i imagine just a snowplow alone would draw alot of power eh?

GM option code VYU is snowplow prep package.

 

86.................Not really because the plow is only drawing juice

when moving it. But along with the other stuff running full blast

its quite a job for the 105 amp unit to keep up.

The 160 in my gmt-900 works fine....................

SonJaab is right , I have a 07 1500 Im trading in and it has the 145amp dual battery with my plow and a 30 amp dual rotators on the roof it just keeps up , a 105 would not stand a chance

Yes you can. I intitally had a 105 but it started making a noise so I upgraded to a 145 (the biggest available for my gen truck) and warranty covered it. They needed to put a bigger belt on to accomdate the bigger size of the 145. I have noticed that the 145 does have a advantage over the 105 when it comes to my usage. I can now operate the plow, along with the tail gate spreader, have my sound system on, along with strobes and invertor if need be without excessive power drains. The dash lights will still drain somewhat when using the plow, but they don't dim as much as they did with the 105.

 

Also with the 105, it performed just as good as my F250's 135 which I found odd. I also had dual batteries on my F250 as well. The price of the 145 which my warranty paid for was like over $400 I believe. It was ordered from a GM dealer, so price didn't matter for me as my extended warranty picked up the tab.

    • He does, actually. In another unrelated video he mentions the president called him in the middle of the night to relay some information on a cause (religious based) that he's invested in. Glenn expressed concern that another leftist administration could wield too much power with some procedure the Pentagon was using, classifying certain religions a certain way. Being that he is LDS (Latter Day Saints), he gets hate all the time from ALL over the political spectrum, so he's invested in this. Trump called him back at 5AM to tell him he had made some changes to that classification.   So, yes, they are and have been in contact regularly since the start of the administration. I may have my numbers wrong - I'm not a numbers guy. It may have been a MILLION barrels, not 1.5. The point is, our President, by his actions, gives a crap about America, and US - this is completely OPPOSITE the actions of the prior administration who projected hatred for anyone who wasn't following the left's edicts in lock-step.   Remember, they called January 6th an "Insurrection", when there were ZERO weapons among the crowd, undercover FBI agents agitating the crowd, along with paid leftists acting as aggressors, egging the crowd on in an attempt to whip everyone into a frenzy. It's all been proven.  Pelosi refused Trumps request for more National Guard troops. This smells 100% like an inside job for those with critical thinking skills. Only a handful of guys in the crowd got wrapped up in that, thankfully, but EVERYONE was searched out based on cell phone data, and charges were brought against many. And 6 or so people were locked up and left in solitary confinement for YEARS with ZERO due process!! If you give the slightest crap about our Nation, REGARDLESS of your political leanings, this should frighten you to your core. This is what men suffered, bled, fought, and died against 250 years ago!   This has gone FAR BEYOND left vs. right. This is a  threat to America, and our way of life. This is PRECISELY why Trump, a BILLIONAIRE who could have chosen to take Melania and sit on some tropical island that he could afford to buy himself and RELAX, instead chose to run for office, get hate from literally every corner of the media, get ATTEMPTS on his LIFE constantly, and begin to repair some of the severe damage that's been done to this Great Nation.   I don't know why I bother wasting my precious time here. Everyone has their minds made up. They won't realize we all were correct until it's too late ... after they elect another tyrant that hates America to office (Obama), or another puppet whose administration is secretly running the show behind the scenes (Biden).
