Sold Truck, But Stayed Chevy

Well everyone I sold my Silverado 4x4 so I could buy a new Camaro. I have had a truck for the last 16 years but had a 1969 Camaro in 1993 which I sold when I got married. I put about 20000 miles per year on my vehicles so every 6 years or so I replace them. I have had the Camaro for about 2 weeks now. I love this car but I do miss the truck as well. I could not have been happier with the Silverado, it gave me nearly 7 years of mostly trouble free 125000 miles. The only draw back was a lot of miles at 15 mpg started hitting the wallet a little hard lately.

Here is the truck:

I used a paint pen to white the letters on the front tires to see how it would look, but ended up wiping the white off. I am selling the nerf bars, stock 17" wheels, tires, centercaps and lugnuts, two sets of the molded mud flaps guards (one for with flares and one for without), and a Hypertech Power Programmer 3 all in the classifieds.

Here is my new daily driver.

Enjoy, I am waiting for the 2012 ZL1 and hoping my wife will cave to my "need" for one :sigh:

Thanks everyone.

Yep the Camaro is so much easier to speed in because it just doesn't feel like you are going that fast. I use my cruise control all the time in it or I catch myself going way too fast.

Nice car, I have tried to drive cars before but always went back to suvs and now the truck

I can understand that as I've driven trucks for so long. The hard thing to get used to is that I no longer see over the other cars in front of me. I really liked being able to see ahead like that so I could plan an escape route. With this car you only see the car in front of you and have to leave a little more room. That said though, it is a blast to drive and I am amazed at the ride quality.

i had one when they first came out for a few months. it was absolutely gorgeous to look at but felt to big and bulky when driving. i'm not trying to bash your car but i'm just saying it wasn't a good fit for me personally living with it everyday. i found camaro5.com to be a good website back then. haven't been there in awhile so i don't know about now. anyway, nice car and enjoy it.

Your not the only one who thinks like this...There are a lot of people all over the net on a lot of boards that have the same complaint. I have a friend that just went to buy one at 8G off the sticker, and he walked away. Said it felt sluggish, didn't handle the way he wanted it to and he absolutly hated the interior...and like you said, it felt big and clunky for a sports car.

Very nice car though man. I am still a big fan of them, I will just likely never buy one, for the money I can almost buy a Vette, and thats more my speed.

Sort of ironic truck guys find the Camaro bulky.:lol:

I can understand this comment though because I think I know the reason(s). You sit very low in the car compared to the dash and door panels. On top of that, all the windows in the car are very short again especially compared to a truck. This really does give you the impression that you are in a car that is much larger than it really is. If you have a sunroof car that feeling seems to be magnified. I drove both and the sunroof takes away some headroom and thus you feel a little more surrounded. Another reason may be it has a little longer wheel base than traditional sports cars. And the independent rear suspension does in fact feel different than a live axle rear.

As far as handling goes though, it truly does handle like a sports car. I have driven many sports cars in my life Dodge Shelby, 86 Mustang, 89 Iroc, 90 Corvette, 03 Tiburon GT3, 09 Mustang, 10 Mustang, 11 Mustang, etc and this car out handles all of them so far. I actually test drove a 2010 Camaro SS and a 2011 Mustang GT back to back on the same twisty road and the Camaro flat out out handled it on real world roads. Where the Mustang would drift at a certain mph through a tight corner, the Camaro rear stayed glued to the pavement at that same speed and begged for more. Granted the Camaro comes with summer only performance tires and I think that although the 'stang had Pirelli rubbers as well I don't think they were quite as sticky. Anyway, I am not trying to defend my new car, only state my experience. I loved my truck. I kept her for almost 7 years and 120000 miles. I did like sitting up high and seeing over most other vehicles on the road but this car takes me back to my 1969 Camaro and that was my favorite vehicle of my entire life. And I am averaging 21 to 22 mpg now which is huge for me since I was spending around $450 per month just in my truck for gas (averaging 15 mpg) and now I am probably around $300 per month on gas. The truck used to haul stuff, well the Camaro hauls one thing...@$$

Its bulky for what it is...its supposed to be a sports car.

Oh yeah, not saying its not quick....but for the price we pay here in Canada for a Camaro...you can get quicker cars, that handle better.

It's got good handling, speed etc for its class, but in its price class, there are more capable cars.

The BMW 135i for example, 370Z, Subaru STI. They're all the same price range (inside of 2-3K difference) here in Canada, and they're all faster and more capable.

I'm not saying I don't like them...I expect more for 45-49K is all.
