I just don't get it.

 

Don't get me wrong. I love fast cars. I own a Corvette in addition to my Silverado and frankly, most of the time I drive it like I stole it.

 

But I just don't get paying all this money to hop up a friggin' TRUCK. They weigh almost three tons, their center of gravity is way the hell up in the air, it takes an acre to turn 'em around. Why would you spend $16K on a Callaway Supercharger when you can buy a nice used Corvette that will actually handle?

 

I'm not criticizing anyone here. I'm sure it's my lack of understanding, but like I said, I just don't get it. I want a truck to haul lumber from Home Depot, to move furniture, to get plants from the nursery, to commute to work. If I want to go fast, I go home and change cars.

 

 

I don't know that I could justify the amount of $ a Calloway or Lingenfelter would cost, but I did have a 1990 Silverado SS, and I loved it. I lowered it, downloaded a stage 2 program, K&N breather, a TBI spacer, and a custom exhaust system. I could tow a race car to the dragstrip, unhook the trailer, run low 14's in the truck, and tow my race car back home. Best of both worlds! I'm a truck guy.... through and through.

I guess it's like they used to tell me long ago when I sold cars....there's an ass for every seat!

If you can find me a sports car that fits a 6'6 guy with size 15 shoes then I might drive one. :driving: I grew up in the country and on a farm, we hopped up trucks because we used them everyday, in winters, and the kid down the street had a hopped up truck too.

 

Around here a fast/lifted/clean truck would get noticed before a sports car and when a built diesel on 35's takes down one, you have to admit that is impressive.

 

As for the Callaway, I see a dealer that lists in our Indiana Auto and RV always has two stocked on his lot. Last I saw it had over a 60K sticker for the 4x4 crew cab.

Here's a 2012 Callaway Silverado SC540, with supercharged 540 bhp 6.2L, being picked up at Callaway-Old Lyme, CT bound for Wilson Niblett Motors, a Chevrolet dealership in Ontario, Canada.

very cool truck, i'm contenplatong putting a magnacharger on my truck now, if i was to do it all over again i would have done the calloway from the hop and had the factory warranty. nice to see you got what you wanted,enjoy!

What I want to know is if anyone thinks that the 16k EXTRA this thing adds is worth what its puttin out. Is the brand name boosting the price tag or maybe because its worth the extra money.

Why not take a standard cab/short bed and make a reall SS?

 

 

Not sure if this is a 6.2 or 5.3 truck but if it is a 6.2 truck you can not get one in a reg cab.

Or, do what my buddy did. Bought a 2008 standard cab Chevy, no power seats, nothing, and yank the 4.8, buy a used 6.0, swap the cam, add a supercharger (when your cousin works for Eaton, i guess life is grand), lower it 3", put on a set of 20" wheels, and hold on.. i hate him.. really hate him.

I get what you are saying, but its still cool other than the grandpa package.

Had to sign up just to clarify a few things. First, thanks for having me. Second, the reasons to buy this truck, when the Lingenfelter package is only ten grand, the Magnacharger and Edelbrock packages are only about six grand, are the following; 1. Warranty- My truck is still covered by the factory GM warranty, while if you add any of the other packages, your warranty is immediately null and void. 2. Installation- The installation of the supercharger package, wheels & tires, custom embroidery, etc., is performed by the only company backed by GM to do such modifications, and done in their own assembly plants in California and Conneticut, not Joe's Hot Rod Shop down the street. 3. History- Callaway has a long history in working with GM, and more specifically, Chevrolet. This started in 1987 with the Twin Turbo Callaway Corvette, a regular production option(RPO) offered directly from GM, and continues today with Corvettes, Camaros, Silverados, etc.. 4. All of the above- When you consider all of the above, in addition to Callaway's racing history and success, it is easier to understand why you would want your modifications done by the best of the best and be willing to pay the difference. As for the question "why a truck?", the answer is a bit easier. I can drive my truck all year, in all weather conditions. I can haul trailers, cargo, family and a$$. I can also launch from a dead stop in 4 wheel drive with no spin and no traction control, nothing but neck snapping torque dropping your tongue back in your neck and making the kid in the tuner next to you at the stop light crap his pants as he tries to make out the bowtie on your tailgate as it gets rapidly smaller in his windshield.

Thanks again for having me, this whole thing is new to me, feel free to give me lessons on posting pics and other stuff, I'd love to show off my new truck.
