Wash/Wax Question

Recommended Posts

Hey first time post here. Was planning on giving my truck a good wash and wax this weekend. Its black and is showing swirl marks. What wax/polish would you guys recommend?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

swirl marks can only be removed by machine polishing. this is called paint correction. no amount of polishing by hand will completely remove swirl marks. now you can use a glaze to fill in the swirls, but they will just show up again after the glaze deteriorates. wax protects the paint from the sun and contaminents.

personally, i use all Adam's Polishes. you can get a basic machine polishing kit, or wash/wax kit with everything you need to get your truck looking better than new. check out there instructional videos on the proper way to wash/dry/polish/wax your ride!

Great summary 2010!

A few more suggestions to avoid more swirls and scratches.

1. Don't take your truck a car wash

2. Use only lamb skin wash mitts

3. Use terry cloth towles

I have a black truck too and know what your going thru.

i prefer microfiber towels... but not the thin made in china ones found at parts stores. korean made plush microfibers are the ones i like

yep - usually people add more swirl marks from the materials they use. you need good quality towels and washmits for washing and waxing.

i'm still a zaino worshipper... no swirls in my black cars...

LOL! Just remember, black isn't a color... it's a career.

Now, here's your next question....Wanna know how to start an argument? Get an Adam's lover and a Zaino lover in the same room!

Both are great.

I use Turtle Wax Dupli-Color. You can get it in different colors to match your truck. The black wax does a great job of filling in little marks, as opposed to white wax...which seems to make things on a black truck stand out even more.

Also, when washing or waxing a black truck....make sure to move your rag or cloth side-to-side or up and down...don't use circles. Any dirt, grime, or grit on the cloth or sponge will just add to the swirls. I learned this the hard way when I tried to wax my dad's truck as a suprise birthday present when I was 13...I ended up making it look worse than it did before! :idiot:

I also only use straight wipeing strokes to avoid swirl marks ,also always have the hose running water water onthe surface to float

dirt away at he same time. A grit gaurd inthe bottom of the bucket keeps your spounge or mit off thegrime in the bucket bottom.

Meguiars NXT wax works great for me....easy on easy off :chevy:
