This is what I drive for work everyday and I can say I do like it, But it has 180K miles it's on it's second motor and has costs the company over 100K in maintenance and repairs since it was bought in 07.

Say what!? No rear guide wheels on that 'railer!? You are indeed brave, Man!

Hello! You all have heard "teach your children well" well last fall my son in law and I went truck shopping. He had always had GM trucks but he needed a 6 foot box and with the X plan the price for his loaded Lariat was something GM couldn't match. So as it ended up he bought a loaded Lariat crew 4 X 4 and I bought a 4 X 2 SLE NHT Sierra. As soon as my daughter got in the new Ford she got car sick! She has never done this before, but thinks it has something to do with the way the windows in the front doors drop down. If she drives it is somewhat better. I say it is just a Ford thing!

My 08 F150 XLT Crew makes my wife car sick too. Didn't think about the drop in the front windows. Maybe I will "cover" that next time we take the truck and see if it helps

I might as well chime in. We had bunch of vehicles on our GPS Survey Teams. Most all were Dudge and Furds except for my suburban and a Chevy Mini-Van for the head honcho. In the last 5 yrs we had them, 3 Furds and 3 Dudges had to have new tranmissions. 2 of the Dudges were pulled from service at less than 70k miles for what they called "Frequent and Severe Maintainence Trends". My suburban never had one problem in the 100,000 miles I drove it in <4 yrs. I once asked the head of the A&E Section why they buy some vehicles and he said because we are gov't agency (DOT) we must take the low bidder no matter what and Furd and Dudge often beat GM on the fleet prices. Out dept bought and leased 1,000's of vehicles. What used to bug me is at times I would get comments from people/public about how good the Furd and Dudges must be because the state buys so many. If both vehicles were exactly the same but 1 cent different, they would be required to buy the one that was 1 cent less. Thats why we had 8 Furds and Dudges and only 2 GM's most of the time.

PS - The only way they let me have a K2500 sububan was that I was the senior tech and travelled all over the state on Recon and they let me choose a vehicle from the list of approved vehicles. It had to be justified by the change of command and took a 1 yr lead time before GM built it.

why do you spell ford and dodge as furd and dudges ? seems kinda dum to me not to even name the competition.

I drive a 2010 F150 Super Crew 4x4 for work everyday, I've always been a GM man but I'll have to say the F150 is a very comfortable truck. The only complaint I have is it's a little under powered with the 4.6 but it does alright. My kids love all the room in the back seat and the 36 gallon fuel tank is very nice.

No it definitely has rear guide wheels. There is no way to go without. These ones when down on the rail tuck in right behind the rear tires. Trust me they're there

Sorry people.

I'm not trying to hijack this tread. But seeing that 06_GMC works for Union Pacific. I thought he might like to see this.

My work for years went with the F-350 and we do lots of long hauls with a 14' to 30' trailer and the odd sailboat. They kept breaking down. But our local dealership had such good service that we kept going back. Well my boss had just bought a brand new F-450 made it from Toronto, Canada to Somewhere in south carolina. on its maiden trip. Blew a Turbo. so he said screw it and went and bought 2 brand new Chev 3500HD. havent had a problem since.

I haven't driven a Ford lately, but the company I worked for back in 1979 bought a new F-350, I guess they called it a bobtail. It had a special flat dump bed installed for dumping plaster sand at construction sites.

I loved that truck. It had a gas motor with a manual trans and it really did its job.

I remember one time, I was at least 1,000 lbs over the weight limit for the tires we had on it and got a ticket at the scales. I drove the truck like that for about 70 miles. It didn't even faze it.

It was very dependable and had lots of power. I would load it down with 6,000 lbs of materials and also fill the passenger side of the cab up and the mud flaps were almost dragging on the ground.

I can't say enough about that truck, I wish they were all made that good.

By the way you guys talk, they don't make em like that anymore.

I just have to say i hate fords! (Just look at my back window or my hitch cover  ) My dad owns a 2003 ford ranger.....peice of junk! It would be more comfortable to sit against a cardboard box with a pole jabbing into your back than to sit for any length of time in that. Last week i had to push it out of my drive way because it couldn't get over a 2" bump of ice......just sad! Not to even mention the rust on that thing, it started to rust on the driver side top of the windshield next thing you know the windsheild blows out of it. Too many problems!!!

Never seen a 03 ranger rust that bad or any vehicle rust that bad . Going over a bump of 2 iches of ice ...... sounds like bull again. and for seats there not great but there not that bad . A pic of the rust of this ford ranger would be cool to see because I find that hard to believe a vehicle would rust like that where the side windows comes out .

It wasn't the side window it was the front window and i will upload some pictures, and the truck was stuck in a rut with about a 2" ice bump behind it, it has winter tires but couldn't get traction. And have you ever sat in the middle of a ford ranger? If so you should know what i mean about the pole in your back!!

I use my personal GMC for work when I have to do the big stuff. I was offered an 08 Dodge 2500 Hemi didnt want it. My main work car is a 2009 Mercedes c350 though. I hate the maintenance bills on that. The 2003 Excursion Powerjoke we had sucked. Always in the shop for injector issues

I have no issue with ford at all. Have driven numerous ford trucks over my years in construction as most company work trucks were fords. Some GMC's/Chevy's but mostly fords. That said, the biggest piece of junk I've ever owned was a '79 ford f100. That thing gave me more fits than all other vehicles I've owned combined.

My old man sold a '99 f150 to his buddy about a year ago and the truck still runs and has over 300,000 miles on it. Never had much trouble at all and it has been off road on a lot of jobsites in the past 13 yrs....I still won't own a truck that isn't made by GM.

I work construction in DFW and our company has primarily purchased Fords since it started. As you can see in my sig I drive a F-250 work truck everyday. I sold my 04 Dmax when I started to drive this truck home. I have never had more problems with a new vehicle ever in my life. I have always had used GM cars/trucks and this thing takes the cake as the worst one of any that I have driven. At 6k the cats broke apart and had to be replaced. The seal around the windshield whistles in the wind all the time, it has been taken out and replaced 3 times now. The transmission shifts so hard it feels like the darn thing is going to fall out, it has been reprogrammed twice to keep it from doing that. The motor is a dog, it has the 6.8L V10 which has a little bit of punch unloaded and in the right situation, but loaded I have to have the hammer down just to keep it above 40mph on the hills with about 8k pounds worth of trailer and barrier pickers. I have never ever seen a truck sag so much with an unloaded trailer is put on it and it doesn't matter if the truck is loaded or not the thing rides like a lumber wagon. We have one 06 2500HD in our yard that no one drives, I keep trying to get them to hand me the keys to it and I would be much happier.

im part of a truck team out in silver lake and most of them drive F350s they love them, i hate them so its pretty much us gmc lovers pitted against the fords every time we go out lmao.

last time i drove a ford was my buddys grandpas 2010 F250 super duty its a gas engine and its the most gutless pile of crap i have ever driven, when i step on the gas in my gmc you're up and gone, do the same thing in that and it makes no noise and takes forever to get going. literally the most frustrating thing i have ever driven, and to top it off it cant haul a trailer worth a shit either, a simple car hauler with my old race car on it not only made it dog it up slight hills but PUSHED this crew cab down them. And its a farm truck.. i will never understand why..

    • So I'm in the middle of a DOD AFM delete on my 6.2 L86 Sierra. I had a pick holding the tensioner but after I got the Cam phaser gear off I was cleaning off all the rtv and apparently I didn't have the pick seated far enough in. I bumped it and the tensioner sprang forward.  I think everything is good but I want a second opinion. The top of the tensioner is just a looped piece of plastic that rides in that channel right? There is no spring or anything is there? I got the gear and chain back on and it seems tight and everything looks right. I'm hoping nothing fell out.
    • My 2015 1500 LTZ Silverado suddenly won't go into 4 x 4 low. It will go into 4 x 4 high.
    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
