I've had 3 GMT400's, 4 GMT800's, and 1 GMT900. I currently have 1 of each. They all have their pros and cons. I really haven't had any major issues with any of them. They've all been great trucks. I don't understand why everyone is bashing the 800's? I like them all.

My 07 Avalanche is my first full size GM truck. When I bought it in September 2007, it was either GM or Toyota for me. The Tundras were nice, but I loved the versatility of the mid-gate. 76,000 miles later I don't have any regrets, I just hate seeing the new upgrades they have put into them mostly beginning with the 2009 model year. My wife lost her company car so we had to buy something basically that day, plus the dealer had a nice red tag sale price on it and I had GM points from the credit card so it was a no-brainer.

It really comes down to personal preference there are pros and cons to either truck. I had a 2005 Chevy ext-cab and the only issue I ever had was with the ac but that was covered under warranty. As for the 2009 Chevy ext-cab I had a lot of small issues with it and the only thing I liked about 09 over the 05 was that the rear window rolled down. In my opinion the 05 felt more durable.

I've got an 09 Silverado extended cab 4x4 with 30,000 miles. So far I've had an engine control module fail that left me stranded on the interstate, a vent valve between the gas tank and engine failed, a different vent on the gas tank failed that made it extremely difficult to fill up, and the passenger side door lock actuator failed. All repaired without hassle under warranty, however these issues are extremely disappointing on a truck with only 30,000 miles. When I changed the oil the other day, I noticed the front axle is now dripping oil. I thought I was buying a NEW truck to avoid these types of issues.

I bought my 2001 X-cab 4X4 when it was well used, but still in good shape. Comparing the 2, I think the old one was an overall better truck. But, when the old one becomes worn out you take what's available. I don't trust Fords, and around here Dodges seem to be the worst for rust. In a perfect world the 2010 would ride better, would have better seats, and wouldn't have more rattles than the old one had, which didn't have any.

The only truck I have regrets on selling was my 94 Stepside, I loved that thing. But as for the 900 I like mine, It took some getting used to with some of the computer nannies its got, like traction control, stabilitrak, and the DOD just to name a few. IMO the dash does leave a little to be desired, but I also just have a bare bones W/T so that might have something to do with it. Wouldnt give it up though.

Im coming from a CRV, so I have no grips about my Truck :P

I'm coming straight out of my mom's Miata... I'm getting half the gas mileage, and oil changes cost twice as much... I regret nothing... The truck's definitely awesome even though it has a few minor glitches here and there...

well i dont see how anyone can say the GMT800's are unreliable, there and thousands of people with over 150,000 miles with no major issues, the 800's are very very solid trucks. yes they have their problems, like every body style truck, but they are definatley a proven platform. i have 3 GMT800's, one with 175,000, and 2 with around 110,000 and they have been great. my 2001 has had a few issues, but i use it the hardest

As for the GMT900's, i have never owned one, but after the horror stories of AFM, i would never buy a GMT900 equipped with a 5.3, not to mention even if they didnt have any issues i wouldnt want half of my engine shutting down anyway. not to mention the whole sheet metal thing scares me away from a 900 too.

The interiors on the GMT800's are nice, they are functional and the seats are really good but sometimes some of the creaks and whatnot coming from the dash are pretty sketchy. GMT900 LTZ/SLT interior is awesome, way better then dodges or fords confusing interior

the GMT900's look awesome too

Thin sheet metal is an invalid argument, mine survived 2 hail storms today with no damage :)

It is definitely thinner than previous models. I haven't had any issues with it yet though.

I have no regrets buying my GMT-900! I have never owned a GMT-800 but spent some time in them and they are great trucks! The quality on my 900 is great and I fail to see the issues that people bring up about them! I have a 6.2 with 3.73 rear end and GM has never built another truck like it! It has 400 horses under the hood, conventional 4wd and it's in a 1500! The truck really moves out and will get 18 on the highway all day long and if I am easy on the throttle that figure approaches 20!

    • I find it amusing the OP doesn’t realize this threads heading includes several engines. He should have posted in the off topic section if he wanted a more narrow focus. I really appreciate and find amusing that he actually pointed out one of my many vehicles. The Odyssey. That happens to use 0-20 oil. I love pushing his buttons.
    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
