my wife got a 2011 Sierra Crew Tx Edition in October. We debated trading my 03 but it's paid for and I wanted to keep it. After 2 weeks of buying the Sierra I feel like I am slumming everytime I drive my ride..solution stay out of the Sierra and ride my motorcycle to work or drive the 03. The thought of more payments keep me in the 03...for now

Wait. A year from now you will have more choices from the government as the K2 will be in production. Remember, the GMT900 was the truck that lead GM into bankruptcy. Something about thin sheet metal, flimsy bumpers and awesome drum brakes that the non kool-aid drinkers did not accept. The GMT-900 also brought a new term to GM. Decontenting. Look it up.

With the fuel prices trending up and the public demanding more fuel effcient vehicles across the entire product line you will see all manufacturers resort to weight saving measures. The drum brakes have been around since the dawn of the automobile and stop these vehicles just fine. I have been around long enough to remember when recreational travel trailers were towed with large Buicks and Ford passenger cars with drum brakes all around. Somehow those drivers managed to stop and not run in to anything or anybody.

Yes, there is decontenting - but all manufacturers do this.

With the exception of the 5.3L AFM magical disappearing oil problem I've been getting addressed under warrantry, I love the truck. Quite an upgrade from my '96 Chev 1500 4x4 (Although I still miss bushwacking with the old beast) I'm a little more hesitant to take the still-like-new SLT on some serious 4x4ing only cause I dont want to scratch the paint lol

Interior rattles a lot more than the 800s...besides that, nothing

+1, other than that I love it. I think my 9 year old loves my truck more than I do. :D

Man, boys and pickup trucks. There's just something about that. My nephew stands at the door and starts crying if I don't take him out to "drive" it almost immediately when I pull up in front of my sister's house. I guess we just never got over our love for the trucks! I don't know about you guys, but my granddad drove a chevy, my dad drove a chevy, and well, it just seemed like the choice was made up for me. Thanks for all your responses. I think I'll wait to see what comes out soon and base my decision on that (new GMT 900 at the end of its run vs. new style truck).

I honestly can't stand driving my brothers 05 vs my 09, it is a nice truck and I like the body style though. Mine has an annoying rattle in the dash but besides that I still think it's a great truck

I love my truck so far. My 08 Sierra with the factory 20's chewed thru breaks. My 02 Sierra was a solid, aside from the break issue I had on my 08 Sierra it too was a solid truck. I did immedialy notice the lighter hood and doors on the GM900, but that's it. And I love the 6 speed.

No regrets at all, but I'm curious what is this rattle that so many people complain about in there GMT900?

Got 17000miles and no rattles, squeaks or other excessive road noise from the back door area.

My 2011 was my first GM purchase (other than a dumpy S-10 when I was 16) and although I like the truck it will most likely be my last GM. I can't vouche for the older vehicles quality, but mine kinda sucks. Very flimsy feeling, AFM is gay because it doesn't save me any fuel and it makes my dash rattle when it hits 4 cyl mode, looks kinda wimpy for a 4x4 truck and a bit underpowered (5.3). In the past I have stuck to dodges and fords, but I didn't need my dodge diesel anymore, didnt care for their new half tons, and Ford was very proud of their new F-150s so I couldn't justify spending so much on one of those. This is how I wound up in chevy especially since they were cheaper and had 6k in rebates when I purchased. Saved a few thousand bucks over the ford but i'd gladly pay it now, especially since my dad just bought one and it's real nice. Don't get me wrong, my truck has 25k miles on it and has never left me stranded and looks decent, just not what I'd call a 34,000 dollar vehicle.

I love the 800s, and miss my last one frequently. That being said, when i climb into the driver's seat of my dad's 04 4x4 LT (quite often), the whole experience is akin to a big step backward as far as interior quality / finish / tech is concerned once you're used to the SLT / LTZ 900s. That doesnt take away from the overall badassedness his truck has been thusfar though and we wouldnt own any other brand.

Just traded in my 2003 extended cab Z71 Silverado, and I do not miss it. I did not have really any major issues with it, except the P0449 evap code just before tradiing it in. But, with just 1K miles on the new truck, I really like the new truck and am so glad I made the switch.

I went with the crew cab this time. Don't know if the new extended cabs are any better than the older extended cabs. but the lack of a center pillar on the extended cab trucks makes them a really flexible box which caused alot of creaking when the body flexed. It really annoyed me. I love the 4 full doors. Opening the extended cab doors anytime a car is parked right next to you was always a PITA! I guess I can live with the loss of bed length for the added cabin.

I had the 5.3L before, and was about to go get a new truck with the 5.3L until I found out they came with the AFM. I did not want to deal with that crap, so I had to find a 6.2L truck. I have a Pontiac G8GT, and just went through a dod-delete cam swap.

I got 9 good years out of my old truck, and hope to from the new one. No regrets with my purchase.

I loved my 800, but this truck does everything better IMHO. and I love the fact that my new truck has drum brakes in the rear. The rear disc/emergency brake assembly on my old truck was an absolute nightmare. They packed with mud (and I did not wheel it, just muddy roads and paths here and there) and I ended up doing surgery on them 3 times over 60000 miles because of dragging/seizing up.
