Went for a test drive

Well my truck is a daily driver that I take on long trips almost weekly now so it's nice that they focus on keeping things reasonably quiet. I don't mind the noise a semi-aggressive tire makes since that can be covered with the stereo easily enough though. But if trucks were the same as they were even 10 years ago I'd seriously hate driving it as much as I do mine right now.

different strokes for different folks. I agree that the fords are more quiet, but I still feel that the Chevy is the most comfortable. Of course, everyone's butts are different. F150 have been having some troubles lately with transmissions and ecoboosts have been having some shuddering issues. Granted, the chevy 5.3 tends to love oil so each have their issues.

I don't know what model of Ford you took for a test drive but I took out a Lariat, then I let the salesman come for a test drive in my truck and he was floored with how much wind-road noise there was.

I think it was an XLT. I didn't pay much attention to noise, other than the lack of sound from the EB. I don't remember noticing any difference w/ road noise, but I was distracted by the terribly loud turn blinkers (that don't latch up/down), and the wimpy feeling column gear selector (couldn't feel the gear detents very well). The doors felt light to me, as did some of the controls. The two things I noticed was the interior room, and the pull of those twin turbos. I really can't see me trading my Sierra for one, but if mine was totaled, I'd test drive it again... along with others.

As a guy that now has 2 car seats in the back I think I will be making the jumo to Ford as well. The back seat is pretty much worthless in the Sierras with the front seat all the way back.

I also like that the floor is flat. I am on the road a lot and crash in the truck sometimes and it is a lot easier with the flat floor.

OK-

If it bothers you THAT MUCH as to take that big of a hit on depreciation and sales tax go ahead and pull the switch. I think I'd just buy a massive sound system to mask the problem myself.

Did you have the "fix" done of the new vents and sound mat behind the rear seats?

BTW speaking of transmission issues-this makes some very interesting reading-

But I got all the rattles and wind-road noise with a new GM, so if I got this truck like this I would hate to see it in a couple of years and how much worsh it could get. I love my truck I just hate the fact that it seems to be falling apart.

The 2005 F150 Lariat I had also had a rattling headliner when I purchased it new. I took it back right after purchasing it and ask them to look at the sunroof because it was not closing right, the trim around the sunroof was loose and there was a lot of noise coming from the headliner when I was driving down back roads. They shimmed the headliner, replaced the trim (got glue all over the new trim that I had them clean off when I was picking it up) and ordered a new sunroof motor.. When I took it back for the motor to be replaced but they got grease on the headliner!! They did clean that off but the glass was still not aligned right so they had someone else align it and all was good for a couple of weeks until. The sunroof got stuck open at 8pm on my was home from work!! Luckly the dealer's service department was open until 9 so I headed there to get my truck inside for the night. They gave me a loaner and when I came back to pick my truck up they had replaced the entire sunroof assembly and installed a new headliner. At least this time it was fixed for good. This was a band new truck too

Bingo. But my but says they are both just as comfortable. Transmission issues with both F150's I had is the reason I am in a GM truck now. I have always like both brands and always wanted a GM truck but in the past Ford's have always been cheaper.

Both Ford's I had did ride a little quieter, and imo look better too but who cares if it's not going to hold up as well? not me :chevy:

Mines pretty quiet, except with strong crosswinds. Not really any squeaks or rattles, other than the one at 40F and below. My 1990 is even quiet when it comes to rattles and squeaks, and the exhaust covers the wind nicely.

Rode in an Eco-boost the other day, crew cab 6 foot box. Man that truck is big for a half ton. But the interior was very roomy, back seat looked comfortable and it was very quiet. Not a fan of the EB but for some people im sure it is just the right engine.

BEfore you get rid of your trick for a EcoBoost, make sure you do some research. There are a ton of unhappy customers, MPG being a huge part of it. Complaints of 8mpg highway. Read around on the Ford forums before you make that mistake.

My 04 has some wind noise. Most of it went away when i removed my fiberglass bed cover, but I think some of it is the rear pop windows. One thing about fords, and I can only speak on the SUV side with Expeditions and Navigators, the rear ends seem to sag a lot after a few years

I'm not a Ford fan, but I swear I'm not going to bash Ford either...

When I first bought my truck I had a friend that had had an identically equipped F-150. His definitely had more power, payload, towing ability, but the seats were uncomfortable, they were very stiff feeling. Not bad for short trips but long trips and your "cheeks" were sore.

Now as far as noise, we both shared our own unique noises. Neither were horrible, but they were still there.

The solid rear window definitely helps, I don't see why someone would rather have a split window (noise) over a solid one (defrost, quiet)...

I don't think you took the time to read the link yourself, those are all 2011 trucks not 2012.
