i have a 2012 hd 6.0 v8. ever since i got it,there is a lifter noise when first starting it. i noticed it after it sat for a few days or a week. seems to do it now more frequent even after sitting overnight. has 5k miles on it and oil has been changed twice already. using the recommended dexos and ac filter. just seeing if anyone else has had this. gonna have to call the dealer i guess.

I have the 6.0 in my 2012 and no lifter noise here. Is there a possibility you have a broken manifold bolt or leak? Sound can be similar at idle.

My 2012' 6.0L did the same at 3500 miles, only all the time. Turns out a TSB was silent, unless requested thru GM. They ended up tearing down the motor, replacing the oil pump, lifters and oil gallary manifold under the intake. Long -short, it's doing it again at 28K. This truck must have been built on a Friday after lunch. Three water pumps, three front end alingments, smells like burnning ribber from the rear end, oil pump, lifters, brakes squeel. Not the dealers fault, no blame there. They give me great loaners. 2012' Camaro once. Sweet.

My 09 2500HD's LY6 was the same way from day one. 3 or 4 seperate GM dealers said it was "normal" and wouldn't do a thing. At 60000 miles a lifter collapsed, broke the retainer, spun sideways and took the lobe off the cam. GM put a longblock in it on their dime which was giving them exactly what they deserved as far as I was concerned. I had gotten rid of it about 5000 miles prior to it grenading too, lol. Oh..... but the trans still slipped like always.... which was "normal" too, lol.

Good luck.

Toes the tick go away after about 30 seconds or so?

Might not be lifter tick. If it goes away, it could be piston slap. Lots of 6.0's have it and once the metal gets warm it quiets down. My 6.0 has a bad lifter(s) and the damn thing ticks like crazy. Sometimes on startup and the goes away, sometimes after running a while and sometimes when changing from reverse to drive. Just the nature of GM and their poor quality.
