OK, actually your truck’s rearend.  Had you scared for a minute eh?

Was reading in Peterson’s 4Wheel and Off-road that the 1500 series Quadrasteer trucks come with a Dana 60 rear axles.  Does yours really have a Dana 60?

I found that article rather odd because every Quadrasteer truck I have looked at all had AAM 9.5 rear axles.  But come to think of it, I have only seen 1500HD and 2500 series Quadrasteer trucks at the TPC or on a few dealer's lots.  Perhaps the 1500 uses something different.  If the 1500 series Quadrasteer does indeed use a Dana 60, I find that even more odd because the Dana 60 is a more robust axle than the AAM 9.5 and it would seem they would use the Dana in the heaver Quadrasteer trucks instead of the lighter trucks….or across the board for that matter.  You would think by only using one Quadrasteer rear axle supplier would reduce build complexity and service part numbers. But who nows...we are talking about the General here.

I’ve been digging trough all my service manuals, CD’s and other resources but the smallest axle I work with is a 10.5 AAM so I don’t have any info on light truck with Quadrasteer readily available to me today.  Should be getting some emails tomorrow though.

I also looked through your pictures to find a good picture of the differential but below is the best one I could find that shows the diff.  The picture kinda does look like a Dana cover bolt pattern.  Can you take another picture that more clearly shows the differential housing cover?  I am not from Missouri but see’in is believin.

I thought gm was using a different axle company?  The name eludes me (HELP!)

The second to last picture sure does look like the traditional shape of a Dana. I just can’t believe we would be using both axle suppliers.

For some reason everybody keeps taking pictures from the driver’s side angle where the gear of the rack assembly is in the way.  Would like to see a clear picture from the passenger’s side angle to know for sure.

I’ll let you all now what I find out tomorrow or Monday.

who is gms axle supplier?  I cant for the life of me think of it

Ryan,

American Axle Manufacturing (AAM) has been GM’s primary axle supplier for many many years.  Dana has supplied some axles but only on heavy trucks and some 1 tons.  (Dana 70’s and 135’s).

Don’t get Delphi confused as an axle supplier on these quadrasteer trucks as Delphi only supplies the steering gizmos not the entire axle housing.

Case Closed.

All QUADRASTEER equipped trucks use Dana 60 rear axles.  AAM 9.5 axles are not used with QUADRASTEER although the press has published incorrect information.  I even miss identified them as AAM pieces myself when I saw them in person as the shape of the diff cover is very hard to see with the rack and pinion attached.  You can also look forward to seeing this system in Dodge trucks within with in the few years with a different trademark name.

This information is based from a conversation I had today with my contact at Delphi.  He was nice enough to email the following exploded diagram as well.

Also, I was advised if you test-drive a truck with QUADRASTEER you could receive a free gift from Delphi by completing a short survey.  Dealers have are suppose to have the necessary forms 18268956.jpg

I had some difficulty in getting information from GM-Chevy and GMC as I was trying to gather info before ordering.

I asked Eaton about whether they would be making the G80 as an option for it. They said no, it would not be an option. They also said, it would have a limited-slip of Spicer origins, as they thought Spicer would make the axle, itself.

When I sat down to price the truck on several online sites, they did not allow the locker-G80-as an option.  I would get this message when trying that combo:

Locking Differential -N/ A w/ NYS 4- Wheel Steering) Code: G80

DIFFERENTIAL, LIMITED SLIP, HEAVY- DUTY, REAR (REQ: NYS 4- Wheel Steering) Code: G86

When the dealer would enter the G80, it would not accept in on the order. He tried several times on different days.

Strangely, though, I have seen a Denali owner, with Quadrasteer, and it may have been on here, that he had a G80 locker.  So, that it rather confusing. I don't know the whole story.

My differential has no markings or any kind of metal tag attached to any of the housing bolts desinating rear end ratio-4.10-or manufacturer.  There is a paper band on the axle tube with, G27, I belive.  The axle has a Spicer tag with info and manufacture date.

I sent Delphi several emails and got nothing back.  I may send them a snail mail and one to Spicer.

One funny thing was back before the "official announcemant"-I was searching Delphi's data base for online documents pertinent to Quadrasteer. I was trying to find out exactly which trucks would have it and what differentials would be offerred.  I found a paper written with two reference names of project engineers.  It had their phone numbers.  So....I call the guy up. He answers and I ask him what I want to know.  He was taken aback and seemed stunned, like I may be testing him to see if he would easily give up some "secrets", or something.  He would not say anything. He told me I would have to wait for the Dephi/GM announcement due in about a week's time.  So, that was a deadend.

I would like to find out more about specs, manufacture info, etc.

Sorry, I did not see your post sooner.
