Sometimes they just appear. A friend from church showed me his new Ridgeline. This his old 2010 he bought new. Dealer maintained with 150K miles. I’ve been looking people are proud of them. Unless he has a change of heart. It will be in my driveway this afternoon. Backup trip vehicle or Avalanche replacement. Luckily for me having multiple vehicles isn’t that expensive. Especially if they aren’t expensive vehicles. That’s why I like having multiple older vehicles.

So I now have a Honda p/u. It’s better than expected. It’s fully loaded. Even has a hard retractable remote control bed cover. Just a little wear on the seat and a sagging head liner. The passenger side mirror needs a little touch up. All stuff I can handle. Turns out he’s super diligent on maintenance. Just had a 4 wheel alignment. It’s needs nothing maintenance wise. While picking it up at the dealer his wife says. You had this long enough let’s get a new one. Luckily him, luckily me.

Owned a 2020 and loved it. Looked at lifting for my operating regime and just wasn’t high enough. Otherwise a near perfect setup. Enjoy Stan.

2010 Ridgeline 160K, actual miles. All fluids changed. I don’t know what the minder says for service but the manual says. Differential 30K miles, rear end the same. If you do drop and fill on the transmission you should do it often. Or 3 times at 30K. If you want to go long. The original owner did one drop and fill on the transmission. At 129K the rear end and transfer case. He did brake and coolant more often. I pulled some transmission fluid through the dipstick. It was dark not burnt. This vehicle is so clean I’ll probably go 250K with it and re access. It’s tighter and smoother than the Odyssey even though it’s 6 years older. I like the way it drives and handles better than the Odyssey. It has less greenhouse so it’s quieter. The test in a couple of weeks will be my wife’s comfort riding in the back. She can’t sit in a car more than an hour. So a small mattress goes on the back seat.

Agree with all your sharing and comments. Drop and fill that tranny and I recommend Amsoil of proper recommendation. Can't change filter that is intregal to transaxle. 

 

Keep clean air filter for that  Bullet proof 3.5L V6.

So as I  explained before you can watch them work at the Honda dealership. Trust but verify. So the work gets done the mechanic comes to talk to me. They always do the upsell. He says I noticed a little wetness around the water pump. Yea ok I replied. So it’s leaking? The whole timing belt was done 60K miles ago. It’s had a coolant flush since then. No just wet. You may want to think about replacing it. And since you’re doing it you might as well do the belt and tensioner and timing belt. Planting the seed of doubt in the brain. So I bit. So schedule an appointment? No I can do it now if you want. 1700$. I say I’ll tell you what I’ll chew on it. I was really hoping to get to 200K miles before doing that. I guess he could tell I was annoyed. So you’re saying I shouldn’t take it on the next trip. Well it’s a Honda you should be fine for another 40K miles. Just keep an eye on it. Yea sure I’ll do that. He figuring I’m ****** on maintenance because I am. Let’s see if I can squeeze some more.

So here it is a few days later. I find no evidence of a leak. Usually I would go to the valvoline quick lube for the next oil change. Then back to the dealership. This time I will go to the dealership instead. Ifs there’s no change I will bring it up. I watched the mechanic do the work so I know it was done. Even walking back there. I wanted to have him pay attention to the color and smell of the rear fluid plus the transfer case. I would do another drain and fill quickly if that was the case. He said it all looked good before saying the water pump looked wet. He really wanted to do that job. The jury is out. The amount of work that comes through there daily. It’s not like he’s sitting idle. I have no place for scammers. I’ll hold judgement for now.

A few other blemishes. Surprisingly the leather seats are fine. He’s a little guy and has round bars he probably uses to get in. He’s probably a flopper not a slider. The only wear was the center console about an inch back half across. I already have a leather repair kit. So I took my blade and cut it out. You’ll never get it to lay flat. Bin there. So now I’m in the process of laying it in. The color is a little off so I put a layer across the whole top. That worked. My brother asked me about a year ago what would I do if one of these older vehicles failed far from home. I’d do a cost analysis on getting it fixed locally. Renting a U-Haul and trailer. Or donating it right there. I’m having a blast with this older stuff. The guy I bought this one from had it 15 years. Now he’s going to sit in front at me at church. Witnessing me driving his old ride. After he paid almost 50K to replace it. I can’t blame him I’ve done it many times. No more.

I couldn’t stand it. So I dragged out the ramps. I haven’t used them for 15 years. I get up under the Ridgeline and there’s no evidence of a leak. I taking it for our next trip with confidence. I definitely will bring it up with Honda next visit. They even put it on paper with an estimate. So now I have two trucks. Usually the avalanche would go. It’s still so nice looking and runs so well I just can’t. Older vehicles are so cheap to keep around. Having more than one just spreads the cost out and equalizes it. I’m a country guy so room isn’t a problem. The color of the odyssey hides that it’s dirty pretty good so wet local days its driven. The avalanche has the body cladding so the more washes the more frequent treatment. And it’s red. And the Ridgline is black. I waxed it yesterday. Then I followed it with quick detail. I did a little paint touch up before.
