Worried about the engines yet?

I can't remember the last time an automaker had a big reveal on a product vital to the company and didn't announce key specifications.....

That can't be a good sign. Automakers have a looong history of giving ballpark figures, so this is either bad(they jumped the gun way too early at the very least), or they are hiding something big/good. But if it was so good they would probably already be throwing it in the face of Ford/Ram Trucks.

The Corvette is looking to be released around the same time, for instance, and there is hardly anything not known about it yet. It makes you wonder what "all new" really means for these engines.....

Wonder if there is some last minute rework for a problem that showed up. Remember Piston Slap anyone?

They absolutely would not toss out figures that were groundbreaking prematurely. That would just give Ford and Ram time to rework their engines. Frankly I don't much care how the figures compare to the other brands, GM V8s have always been best overall. That won't change.

The Corvette group is a different deal as the volume for the out going 13 vs the incoming 14 is pretty low. If they release all the details on the 14 Silverado, they are only selling against themselves with significantly higher volume of 2013's sitting in the pipeline.

My guess is somewhere around the first of May for production model details, hp/mpg of motors etc. when production of the crew cab is about to fire up.

Chevy knows what they are doing. They have been doing it for over 100 now. Relax

I think the new 5.3L is supposed to compete with the Ecoboost not the 4.3L

I don't think anyone is gunning to compete with the EB. It is a popular motor but it seems like it has failed to deliver in terms of efficiency. I would like to see a stripped out truck with an EB built though, I bet it would be a beast.
