Gauge cluster

I have a 2006 silverado 1500hd. I'm starting to have issues with my gauge cluster. The display for the DIC is shorting out. Sometimes a good smack of the dash will make it pop back on. My question is this. Where is all the mileage and everything stored? Is it stored in the cluster like older vehicles with analog gauges or is it now stored in the computer?? The reason I ask is if I pick up a new cluster will I have to pay to have the new one programmed with the proper mileage or is it a simple plug and play??

Hate to give you the bad news, its all stored in the cluster

I just had mine rebuilt last month. My guages stuck and my PRNDL was so dim I couldn't see it. There are guys out there that rebuild them for half the price as a new one and it doesnt have to be reprogrammed. and IMO if you have someone fix it, its more logical to have them rebuild the whole thing not just one guage. sooner or later, all of the stepper motors will start screwin up.

It usually costs somewhere between 150 and 200 bucks.

Fantastic. My next dilemma is I can not have my truck down for more than a couple hours. Oh yea and I'm in anchorage. So shipping to lower 48 is not an option. Even with next day air I would still be looking at 2-3 days. Any chance anyone knows of someone locally in Anchorage who does this?? Or what should I look for?? Also to completely rebuild one of these does anyone have a parts list of all parts that should be replaced??

There are some videos on youtube on how to rebuild them. That may show the parts needed. I do know all of the parts have to be soldered in, including the backlights. The parts arent that expensive but I am pretty much incapable of doing anything with electronic without blowing them up so I had someone do it for me lol

Im not sure about those DIC's though.

If I can figure out everything that needs replaced and part numbers etc, the business right next to my office is a long time tv and electronics repair shop. I would trust their soldering skills way above mine. Who sells the parts??

If you don't mind driving without a cluster ship to gm gauge guys in Arizona. Great work and they can change the lights to led if you want.

As noted before, gauge problem (usually reading high; not returning to 0) is usually the stepper motors. Replace them all when you do it.

Dim PRND321 has to do with cheap resistors that need to be replaced. There are write-ups on other forums for DIY.

I also am having some gauge cluster issues

2003 1500HD LT Crew

My high beam light & door lock (padlock) looking red light

lights are staying illuminated even when truck is off and keys out

I have had my gauge cluster in for recall was working fine for about 3-4 months then this issue comes up?

was told it might be 1 of the 2 control mods ECM/BCM.The body control mod was easy to get to I did the unplug 1 at a time and see if

lights are still illuminated (draining Battery) if left alone not driven for day or two

The ECM is under battery tray not easy to get to at all UGH

dose any one have any of these same issues or idea of what it could be?

Thanks for any help
