SierraCT041500 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Looking for the thoughts of fellow owners, I Have a 2004 Sierra 1500 SLE replacing the rear brake Pads & Rotors the question is how do you guys feel about the performance brake kits available EBC, Brembo,PowerStop or Good Ole OEM AC Delco Rotors and pads, If you have changed to what did you change and is there a difference in wear and maintaince ? Thanks in advance for all thoughts shared
Gurrzt Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I went with the "Baer" eradaspeed rotors and "Hawk" HPS pads. While you are doing the change, think about replacing your stock brake hoses with a pair of "Russell" SS braided hose. They make a complete kit with SS banjo fittings and washers.

kstruckcountry Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 EBC are supposed to be really good, I'm going with their Greenstuff on my 2006. Greenstuff are supposed to deal with the elements better.
r1byker Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I went with Brembo rotors and EBC yellows all around on my Suburban. Made a big difference in stopping power. The yellows do leave a lot of brake dust on the wheels, but, for me, it's a small price to pay.
DanJS10 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 About a year ago, I went with EBC slotted and dimpled rotors with Greenstuff pads. The rotors are terrible. The EBC site didn't tell you that a constant metal to metal rubbing noise is normal with the rotors. When I called their customer service department they offered to replace the slotted and dimpled rotors with the standard high quality replacement EBC rotors and Yellowstuff pads FOR FREE, which I ended up doing and works well. It looks like they've revised the design on the slotted rotors so maybe noise isn't an issue anymore. Although the slotted and dimpled rotors made noise and were annoying, I can't complain about their customer service. Edit: I just realized this was a thread for rear pads and rotors. Obviously with an '08 I've got drums so my experience with EBC was on the front. Sorry for confusion...
Bad Bowtie2 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Since you have a rear disc 2004 GM truck, don't skimp out on the rear pads. AC Delco ceramic would be great, EBC, etc even better. Don't forget to check your e-brake linings at this time too. The 1999 (NBS)-2004 GM 1/2 tons really use the rear brakes more than we think. Goodluck....
CapitalTruck Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 You aren't kidding about using the rear pads. I replaced my rears with Carquest Blue ceramics. No dice. Braking performance noticeably worse. I had to convince my self that the pads were the issue, couldn't believe the rear pads would make such a difference. Went back to OEM ACDelcos (not Durastops). Braking returned immediately and was perfect. Go with OEM pads for the rear.
