RANT: Joggers/walkers IN THE STREET

WTF is wrong with these people. I don't have a problem with the people on the side of the street or where there are no sidewalks. My problem is with the mor*** jogging or walking down the middle of the street with perfectly usable sidewalks on each side. I know because I jog down em'! In the neighborhood I live in the city replaced all the sidewalks @ 2 years ago, they are niiiice! I would estimate only about 20% of the people actually use them. The rest glare at you because you are <GASP> driving in the street they are walking/joggin down the middle of!

 

While I am venting: Who the he** jogs/walks down ANY street in the dark wearing BLACK/GRAY/<insert dark non-reflective color here> clothing?!?!? I have decent vision but when they come around a vehicle, corner, etc at 4:30AM wearing NOTHING reflective, how the he** are we supposed to see them? I bicycle as well as jog and I know for damn certain you can see my a** coming and going!

 

I do not get it..... If you are a perpetrator of this, please enlighten me!

Lol, and then they look at you like "what are you doing driving on the street." It looks like the Tour De France here every weekend, only with a bunch of middle age out of shape gentlemen in spandex who clog up the road in packs.

I dispise the idiots that feel it's necessary to ride their bikes in mountain passes. Or any 55mph+ road for that matter. I'm coming down the mountain going 65(limit) and there's people biking up the grade trying to get hit. Get a mountain bike and find a trail, lol.

Same prob here, early one morning pitch dark, two joggers in complete black jogging almost were ran over by me while I was turning, I bet they really got mad when I floored it and smoked them a bit, to escape me hitting them or them running into the side of the truck lol.

Not about being a dick. I agree with the subject. If there are sidewalks available, USE THEM! If there are no sidewalks available, Then Bike or walk as close to the edge as possible wearing the most visible clothes as possible!!! This topic is actually ironic because just yesterday I had to move over into oncoming traffic to allow for this Jackarse who was riding his bike on the road when there was clearly at least 3 feet of road beyond the solid line that was usable for walking / riding.

I cant wait till I get my PA hooked back up.

Some people do the same around my neighborhood but usually they just block the street so you have to navigate through them and the runners....

I've been running for ~5 yrs myself, but only off-pavement. We're lucky to have run/walk/bike paths & trails near us.

I can't stand to run on concrete sidewalks. Hurts my hips. The softer asphalt is what I prefer heavily. Many runners feel the same way.

I always thought the law of physics would prevail in terms that a car could flatten me. Therefore I stay out of their way. Somehow a good percentage of the population is too elite or too special to get out of the way. What is worse is when they are staring at their phone with ear buds in & act clueless that a car may be going down a street or highway.

No, I'm not kidding. Asphalt is softer than concrete. I don't run in the street, as the original poster has seen. But I do run in the wide emergency lane on the sides, facing traffic.

I can't say I have that type of trouble with runners/bicyclist around here. Kids/teenagers on the other hand, I cannot stand them. They walk in the middle of the road or will just cut in front of you like they own the damn roads. The same kids will also ignore drivers if they are playing on the road like it’s a damn playground.

I hate douche drivers who dont know the laws in the area in regards to cyclist. I cycle on the road and on trails. cyclist can be in packs and are allowed to be on the road and to take up the entire lane if the group is that large. When I am by myself I try to stay far right, but I refuse to ride on the edge of the road where all of the road debris is at so that I can destroy a $70 tire and then have to walk home.

 

In my state on a 2 lane road the drivers are required to give cyclist and runners at least 4' of passing room, on a 4 lane road drivers are suppossed to vacate the lane entirely when passing. Around here it seems that some drivers like to see how close they can come to the runner/cyclist with the mirror while they laugh. Most of the cyclist around here now run gopro units and video the entire ride. That way they have proof when the police are called out.

 

Had a idiot harrass the group I ride with the other night for no reason, someone had it all on video. When the driver was advised of that he bailed realy quick for fear of harassement charges.
