RANT: Joggers/walkers IN THE STREET

I was just talking to my wife about this last weekend in our neighborhood. Perefctly good sidewalk on BOth sides on the roadway, even "improved" corners (with no curbing at the ends of intersections).

 

Must be thse same idots who walk right smack in the middle of the parkinglot roadways at the mall & grocery store parking lots. The ones who walk 100-200 feet to their car or front door of the business without even respectfully moving over to one side or the other when you are driving towards them (head on or from behind).

I can't stand the e-bikes that zip down the side of the road like they are a bicycle and then have to squeeze up beside and past you as you stop at red lights, just so that when it goes green you have to try to get in the other lane or oncoming traffic lane to pass them again....only for it to happen again at the next light....I find they are BAD for obeying traffic rules.

 

My wife drives a school bus and just yesterday she had her signal lights on, was about to open the door to let kids out and BOOM an e-bike goes whizzing by ON THE RIGHT!! between her bus and the curb....if she wasn't paying attention she would have opened the door right into the idiot! and what's worse if she wasn't paying attention he could have seriously hurt the kids!!

Don't get me wrong, its just the people who are smack in the middle of the road, not even attempting to walk on the side walk or jog towards the side of the road then give YOU, THE DRIVER the stink eye for using the roadway!

 

I had never thought about the asphalt/concrete thing. Interesting!

 

Not a clue what having a vehicle or not has to do with anything?

 

Good to see I am not the only one who is annoyed by this.

 

I think I missed a vital piece of the puzzle. They HAVE to be in the middle of the road. Too many drivers pulling into and blocking the crosswalks at intersections! lol

My wife and I run in the early morning when it is dark and we are lit up like a caution sign with blinking lights, reflective belts and clothing, along with carrying a small LED flashlight. Plus we use the side of the road and get off when a vehicle comes by. Some people it seems just don't have common sense I guess.

Your kidding right? So your saying the asphalt gives when a avg. 170-180 lb man runs on the street? Yeah ok I believe that.

As a runner in high school asphalt was much better to run on than sidewalk it does give.

Having spent much time both road running and biking, I too am perplexed by the latest trend of taking up the roadway.

 

When I rode on the street, I'd always ride to the far right as possible and always made sure I was well illumintated. The only time I would get into a "lane" was when I was making a left hand turn. If I was riding in a pack, we would always ride single file. The general belief was, if you were curtious to the drivers, they would be curtious to you. Oh by the way, I don't buy the whole road debris arguement, I've ridden hundreds of miles hugging the "white" line and only occasionally lost a tire. This is an arguement perpetuated by "bike" clubs and folks that don't know how to balance risk. After all, the cost of a tube is much less than the loss of someone's life.

 

Oh by the way, when I ran on the road, both on sidewalks and on the roadway, I'd run facing traffic and would get off of the road when a vehicle approached.

 

Lately, I have been seeing bikers riding side by side in the middle of the road like it was a Sunday in th park. Most will make no attempt to yield to the side of the road, making it extremely hazardous for motorist to pass. At the end of the day, it is much more prudent to yield to traffic than to incite road rage and perhaps death or injury.

Hawaiian I ride thousands of miles a year, I've had 2 unrepairable flat due to road debris last year alone from riding on the side of the road on that "white" line as you call it. Walking home 5 miles in cycling shoes sucks. Our laws here in my state give the cyclist the same access to the road as vehicles, so once again people grumping about cyclist taking up a lane need to become more familiar with cycling laws in their respective states.

 

If I am on a single lane I get over as far as I can, if I am on a double lane I move into the lane some, more so if I have my wife with me as I put her on the edge and ride closer to the traffic.

I guess this is why Tennessee made roads that give bikers their own lane. Though they will still ride the road.

People that are oblivious in parking lots, bike riders on the road. A real bad one is bikers that want to use the road but not follow the rules. As far as I'm concerned bicycle riders should be paying for a license and insurance if they want to use the road. I pay why don't they? Oh because the tree huggers would be up in arms if they made them pay.

 

It really bothers me stupid flaggers too, there was a dump truck miles away and the bitch stops me just to stop me, no real reason. I swear some flaggers are terrible at traffic control. Sometimes I want to ignore the flagger and do what I want just to see what they would do.

 

I actually know a flagger and she says she hits vehicles with her sign, I tell you if some flagger did that to me I would be getting out and busting that sign on the pavement. That or I'd report her for vandalising my vehicle.

Yep plenty of times there's a huge sidewalk or bike lane in town here, but the cyclists ride on the actual street. Come on!!

 

Don't even get me started on registration, I might go off about boat registration......

Maybe they can't afford a truck/car.

That is not the point, it's that they are not using the sidewalks as they should.

 

And this is also a pet peeve of mine because the last thing I need is a distraction or possible danger on the road. If there's a sidewalk use it for your own benefit! And this is coming from a runner, although I don't like to run in the city; it's all about the trails! ;)

what really annoys me is people are all crazy out here "watch out for bikers!" well every accident around here is the BIKERS FAULT they zip in and out of traffic go way too damn fast drive while intoxicated.. i refuse to watch out for people that abuse the rules.. you hit me its your fault..

 

we just had someone die driving a bike and the girl on the back is now paralyzed from the waist down.. why? because he was high on pot/cocaine/drunk while driving and so was she.. he crashed into a car going way too fast.. i know both of the people.. and im sorry but i show absolutely no sympathy..

 

basically when it comes down to it if you are obeying the rules of the road i dont have an issue but if you're going to be an ass and get in my way and harm others i dont care what happens to ya.
