You are tracked anyway if you have a cell phone.
OBDII also keeps track if in accident.

The debate for OnStar has been endless here.

Some do not wish to pay for it. And that is perfectly fine.

But Big Brother is watching all. There are more and more cameras. Police now have license plate scanners. So if you pass a police car - that is recorded.

Sorry, there really ain't no secrets anymore.

Of course, if you live a good clean life - you absolutely have nothing to worry about the authorities watching you.

the British have had License Plate Scanners for over a Decade, and you don't hear THEM Complaining; I see an ALPR system as a excellent tool for Crime Fighting; it can be used to find stolen cars that have been reported to the police, used to find cars that are a part of Amber Alerts, and for those who get their license taken away, their cars get recorded in a "Revoked Driver" database, and if those cars are seen on the road, the driver gets busted for driving on a revoked license!

Europeans wouldn't know personal freedom if it bit them in the ass.

If you think the tinfoil hat is gonna keep you "under the radar" think again!

Almost all police cars have license plate/RFID readers here in NY so they can

track and identify your movements anyhoo!

Heck.............Also most newer traffic/speed signs have RFID chips in them!

My 2011 Cadillac DTS identifies them and displays the speedlimit on the dash DIC..................

Big brother is EVERYWHERE!

Maybe Orwell was right........................

I like on star. Sends me info on my truck monthly. I can check my trucks levels, GPS, phone and if we get into a crash, on star will phone 911 for us. Feels good when u got a family.

The more I think about it the more I doubt RFID can be used on the highway as RFID is low power and generally only has a range of a few feet. Cars can use GPS to alert to speed limits but not using RFID. As for stores, whatever. All they can do is see if you go somewhere, not like they can track your exact movements.

Although there are ways to boost the 'ping' response, I've never seen it more than 45' (lab environment).

trouble with OnStar is I think it is Verizon based and does not work in some areas I have land/go down here. I still carry it for the phone feature for when u leave the cel at home...also I was the second car thru a GREEN light when a young lady drove past many stopped cars to run her red and hit my acura.....had to find my phone to call 911...was in a little bit of shock and we are talking about a no blood crash...just pressing a button for OnStar help would have been nice....and if airbags pop they call you...

Not so here in Texas. ATT has the best coverage in less populated areas. Most of my friends have now switched to ATT as they became tired of using my phone at the hunting property in hill country and Edwards area and on southern coast fishing trips.

I tried using the ONSTAR truck phone in the back country and no connection. Att cel did work. I guess it a some what local thing. .

Definitely a local thing. My personal phone is Verizon and I've never not had service outside/in the car. My work phone is Sprint and it sucks just about everywhere. One of my coworkers has AT&T and when we used to travel together there were tons of times he'd have weak service or especially a loss of high speed data when mine would not. And my Verizon has only roamed (what they call extended network) twice that I can remember (in the US at least)- once while in Iowa near Decorah and in Texas headed between Bernett and Llano.

It was my understand is that your calls through OnStar are Verizon based if you are in range. Otherwise, it goes up to the satellite.

That's one of their selling point-as long as your vehicle has a clear shot of the sky, you will always be able to communicate.

OnStar is strictly a cellular system. Satellites are only for GPS services. The reason it shows greater coverage than Verizon is because the truck has an external cell antenna and a more powerful radio than a handheld phone will so it can deal with weaker signals.
