Taking care of a new truck

Recommended Posts

Picking up my 2014 tomorrow and real excited.

What is the proper way to break in the truck? Want to make sure I don't screw it up.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Follow the break in procedure in the Owner's Manual

Drive it normally...

No hauling till 500 miles.

Read owners manual as per Chawkin's mentioned.

To break into truck pry the window trim back and hit side of glass with screw driver to shatter window without making noise.

Jump threw window to avoid setting off alarms.

Thats What The Crook Did To My new truck in 2008 !!!!!

I just drive it however I want. Always works for me. If break in was that critical some technician would give you a lesson before you left the lot. What a crock.

Hopefully they still offer these with the 2014's

it is spelled out in previous model years, good reading material

Scooby I had the same thing happen to the Tahoe.

Read the manual and it seemed pretty simple. Thought it would be more elaborate then just keep ER under 55 for first 500 and no hard braking for first 200.

Hello!

Here is some information regarding "Braking- in" your new 2014 Silverado.

New Vehicle Break-In (Page 9-24 in your Owner’s Manual)

The vehicle does not need an elaborate break-in. But it will perform better in the long run if you follow these guidelines:

Keep the vehicle speed at 88 km/h (55 mph) or less for the first 805 km (500 mi).

Do not drive at any one constant speed, fast or slow, for the first 805 km (500 mi).

Do not make full-throttle starts. Avoid downshifting to brake or slow the vehicle.

Avoid making hard stops for the first 322 km (200 mi) or so. During this time the new brake linings are not yet broken in. Hard stops with new linings can mean premature

wear and earlier replacement. Follow this breaking-in guideline every time you get new brake linings.

Do not tow a trailer during break-in. See Trailer Towing on page 9-81 for the trailer towing capabilities of the vehicle and more information.

Following break-in, engine speed and load can be gradually increased.

I hope this helps,

Jennifer T.
