Adding Navigation to Intellilink / MyLink System

Visited Chev dealer in North Charleston & arranged to speak to the tech who was most up to speed on infotainment & navigation systems. After I asked about upgrading to full navigation, he confidently declared that my 14 Silverado would need to be upgraded to Intellilink before it would be full navigation capable. I asked if he could just upgrade the K74 HMI module. He asked me what that was. When I told him that it was the module behind the glove compartment, he replied with much conviction “The module behind the glove compartment has nothing to do with navigation - that is the On Star module”. I thanked him for his time and excused myself. Wow! I would have much more respect for someone who could admit that he doesn’t know.

I have a J2534 device for work. Got a good list of K74 HMI module calibrations for the full nav version. Subscribed to TIS2Web only to discover that Tech2Win currently only supports up to 2013. Then I discovered that even if I was able to successfully flash all of the nav calibrations, my module won’t work because it HAS NO DAMN ANTENNA CONNECTOR. Gosh darn it heck!

I searched the internet high and low to learn of options. Found some stuff that would splice into the display and required an additional speaker. Better than nothing, but I want the “factory” operation and integration with center display and audio.

Found only two options for this. One is very pricey and has no references in this thread.

Curses!! If you can’t beat em, buy from em. Contacted kodiakz. This guy is a straight up man of his word. Had a Fedex tracking number within minutes of paying him. Took 40 minutes to install his “kit”. Took another 40 minutes on the phone with XM to get all the data added to the existing audio service. Haven’t dealt with On Star yet.

So far, my impression is that the system and display is drastically inferior to Garmin products. The draw is that it is built in and requires no wires or cell service. Overall though - glad I did it.

To those who installed their units already....what did you use to mount the gps antenna?

I just used a small piece of Velcro that had adhesive on both pieces. Double-sided tape would work, too.

Hello all,

I installed the module from Kodiakz. Outstanding service by the way and it works just as advertised. Weather icon popped up and nav works great. Tried it out up north this weekend and works as advertised.

Now to the problem....I called XM to activate the travelink and weather. After 2 supervisors I'm getting the run around and nowhere fast. Despite me explaining the upgrade they keep saying your radio ID is not compatible. I say yes it is just send it...they say we did and no go. Any help here from those who got it to work.

I just received my unit from kodiakz today. Install is a snap and it works great!

sugarjohnson I called xm and used the option for modifying your account. when you get the person on the line tell them you want to add traffic and weather to your subscription, they will say you can't then ask them to work with their support dept to enable the features on your account. I got no runaround on whether or not it could be done once support was engaged and it all updated quickly and painlessly.

I haven't called onstar yet and I have a question for those who have:

Does the update to onstar add any functionality beyond allowing onstar turn by turn directions to be pushed to your navigation? If so what other features do you gain?

Ok XM done finally. Funny got this guy who handled it no problem. WTH luck of the draw now on to onstar.

Ok guys Onstar not so good...took a IT case and said they will have tech 2 look and get back to me within 3-5 days. To those of you who have had luck with Onstar what icons do you currently have your screen. Currently I have one Onstar icon. I can send the turn by turn from remote link app but it will not allow me to send to navigation.

Does anyone have a picture of the GPS antenna mounted so I can see it and proper placement.

Does anyone have a video of the install I'm not mechanically inclined?

Thanks for yor help

BTW.... If you ask for travel link instead of traffic and weather from xm you get traffic, weather, fuel prices and safety cameras

For xm (after my free trial) it took 45 minutes to get to someone that knew what to do. Have faith with OnStar... After they are done you will see a send to nav option on your app.
