Boy this topic has sure gotten quiet. FYI for any interested partys, purchased the factory nav add on from Kodiakz and everything about the transaction has been smooth and works above and beyond expectations. NAV HMI module arrived within 4 days of ordering, took less than 40 minutes to install, no problems at all. Started vehicle and nav loaded immediately, all vehicle controls worked as before and could tell there were some additional improved settings to the factory radio, IO6. Called XM added TRAVELINK and NAVTRAFFIC, now have weather on the screen, with the weather app button that was added and travel info, traffic, fuel prices, and movie times. Took three calls to onstar and they finally added to there records that I have FACTORY NAV, now the remote link has send to in-dash nav along with turn by turn.

Finally delearship replaced radio control nobs and hvac fan nob, so back ring lighting works.

I have attached three pictures of end product, first one shows maps screen, second one shows weather screen, and last one shows updated software numbers. Note the back ring lighting working.

Anyone have any questions feel free to contact me and I'm pretty sure you won't go wrong adding this factory add on nav from KODIAKZ.

Can you post the link to the company where you bought this navigation system? I searched the web but couldn't find it. Thanks!

Just an update to those struggling with Onstar or will struggle in the future. I patiently dealt with tech support on the nav issue. I have to say they called me back several times over the past week or so. They got the problem documented and sure enough the remote link ap is now updated. The tech support rep I dealt with was quite nice, professional and followed through as he said he would (same guy every time!). He also said that he was attempting to get a note/update into their system so that customer service will more readily be able to assit people in the future to hopefully avoid the runaround and tech support escalation.

OnStar SUCCESS!!!!

what i did:

1.called from Onstar app on my iPhone.

2. Option 3

3. Option 1

4. Option 3

Tech support person came on, she had no idea what i was talking about so i told her to do the following.

1. open a Case number

2. for the description of the ticket i told her to add the following. The truck now has an OEM HMI unit for navigation so software went from IO5 (NON NAV) to (IO6 NAV). I can now accept the destination download from the app but i need your L2 tech support to allow access for this on the account.

that was monday ... i just received the email and i confirmed it is now working.

thanks to all on this thread for the help.

After 5 days, got a message from OnStar tech saying they have updated my account. Checked, everything working.

Follow what everyone here did and you will get it working.

Good luck.

Anyone had the radio nob rings and hvac controls replaced since installing the factory nav HMI module. Do they have to reflash the HMI to get the backlights to work?? Do you lose the nav?

Can you elaborate on exactly what you are talking about here? This nav upgrade from kodiakz is a plug and play unit. Why are you replacing radio knobs and hvac controls?

Nevermind. I see that you were referring to a totally different issue with some trucks shipping from GM without the backlighting behind the radio/hvac knobs. Your post is confusing and random. The way you worded that post is poor and makes it sound as if kodiakz HMI module affects the backlights which it doesnt. Need to be careful there as not everyone is aware of the knob issue and may read that wrong just like I did.

Just so you know, the radio nobs and hvac backlighting, could possibly effect the add on navigation. There is no radio per say, it is all included with the HMI module, I added the nav with a new module, before having the backlighting taken care of. When the parts came in I was concerned the module would have to be reflashed, thus losing my nav. When they replaced the radio control nobs, they touch screen was all in one part number including the backlighting. Anyhow, rings behind nobs are lighted, new touch screen, and nav works flawlessly. Onstar send to dash and siriusxm nav traffic and travel link up and running.

Thats good to know for people who may be worried about installing the nav module before getting the knob backlight issue rectified. Sounds like the knob replacement went ok and didnt affect the HMI nav module. Thanks for clearing that up. Also, I dont think flashing the module would hurt the nav because GTPprix flashes HMI modules with nav to add the video/nav entry in motion/texting features with no problems. Flashing (to my knowledge) doesnt erase the module so should be no worries there.

Yes it can be done quite easily with factory parts that plug directly into the head unit.

Here you go.

Just FYI. For the kodiakz upgrade, you do not need to touch the radio. Kodiakz sends you a new HMI module. Attach a gps attenna, plug in the color coded adapters and you are done.

If you have mylink (even the small 4.3 screen) then you have nav. You have to download the onstar app pn your phone and as long as you have gps on your phone, it will use that signal and allow you to have turn by turn with audio and visual nav on in your truck. Just figured it out myself today and it works great consdering it's free.

do you need to continue your onstar subscription to use this? if you do, you might as well just use onstar.

    • Well....I've done my first intake gasket. Probably wrong, but...we'll see?   Ultra black on the china walls and 1/4" up onto the sides of the intake gaskets. Permatex High Tack (couldn't find Gaskachinch) on the head side of the intake gasket. I read wrong and it says you're supposed to put it on the mating surface of the head, not the gasket. Hoping it's like a PB&J sandwich where it doesn't matter what side the PB goes on so long as there's jelly. That crap is messy/sticky and I got a dab or two on the intake port openings, tried to wipe it off. Hopefully it won't be a big deal and will only aid in sealing.   Per instructions I left the intake (top side) of the gasket dry except for a light smear of RTV around the coolant ports. Wiggling the intake in there was a bear but I had help to free me of surrounding wiring/stuff but I was basically able to set it straight down lined up with the bolt holes.   I did not think to wait until the RTV skinned over but there probably was 5-10 minutes while it sat before installing the intake.   Bolts finger tight first. Then, followed the Chilton's manual pattern to snug them to 15 lb-ft.   Waited a little over an hour, and then did the final torque in sequence again to 35 lb-ft.   Yesterday I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and got my new "nut and bolt kit" (fuel lines) installed. Damn GM used security torx on the spider, which I don't have, so I got scammed at the local HW store for an off-brand security Torx bit set.   The new driver's door mirror arrived yesterday, so, there's a chance this thing could be running and road legal tomorrow? I don't want to get my hopes up.   This will be my first time stabbing a distributor, too. Although, lucky me, someone else marked the old distributor for removal previously, I did see that. (Someone's been here before!!). Engine is still at TDC so it *should* be just a matter of transferring the mark to the new dizzy and rotating it into place.
    • He has his dad’s newer truck he’s put away. He has several old cars he rotates between him and his family. I’ve seen a restored square body and a SS Chevy truck he’s sometimes drives. He did raffle off a new suburban recently. As much as he is watched if he drove new stuff as a rule we’d know it. It would be fine by me. I don’t care what people prefer. I got one more new one in me. I’d rather my wife get one. I can’t get her out of the Genesis. Don’t tell anyone. I want her to get an electric truck. I want to put a generator in the back. Just because. She hasn’t bit yet.
    • Yes, you must have seen my thread on the Blazer. HOT GARBAGE, but I love them anyway. I'm convinced every car guy has a soft sport for an S/T series somewheres. Probably even a Panther too, if I'm being an honest car guy. That doesn't mean they aren't junk. And they definitely don't get better with age. I sometimes play with old cars, but that's by choice. I don't rely on them and they aren't my everyday fleet.   Derek plays the common man on Youtube and that's no doubt where he started. Now he has Youtube money (and Motortrend, etc). You think his crews and his wife ride around in old beaters when they're chasing him and his wrecks across the country? No he's got newer and nicer stuff for that, you'll see glimpses of it in the footage.
    • You refuse to own anything made in this century yet you reportedly own... a 2007 Silverado, which is now almost 20 years old. The dissonance.... turn up your hearing aid?   You clearly don't understand the government contracting process, brother. We send people to die on front lines, keep the public safe, and make people's husbands, wives, children enter burning buildings with equipment from .....wait for it.....   ...the lowest bidder....   Just because something is used for a long time doesn't mean it's good. But it might be cheap and plentiful.   Please, continue to whine about new trucks in a thread dedicated to new trucks, which you've said you'll never own. We get it. Go tell everyone how you're stuck in time on a Panther forum. I mean, Jesus, an 86 isn't even one of the good Panthers.
    • It really is comical when people don’t agree or see the reason some people prefer the older vehicles. They become condescending. All the while they may be busting their knuckles on old vehicles. I have found memories of swapping out engines in my old GM cars in a weekend without much hassle. Unlike today. One wrong move a computer will shut you down. Even on something as easy as a brake job. There’s a pretty comical YouTuber called the car wizard. A garage owner who puts it all in perspective. Another Vicegrip garage that’s shows just how tough the old stuff is.
