Mylink = my disappointment

I have had the my link with nav in my 13 Malibu since last December. I took a trip (1200 Miles) and I used a garmin to ensure the factory one was tracking as it should. I had no issues. On my 14 Silverado I don't have any of the issues the OP described. I would take it in and see if there is an update, if not have them reload the current software.

I have my link and Navi in my 2014. For me.. I think it's pretty good. The only delay I see is at initial start up.. it takes the computer / Navi about a 1 min to get it's bearings... after that.. it's pretty smooth. I keep all my music on the SD card... I get no delay except when I change something on the card. It has to refresh for a few min that first time I plug in the card.. then all is good.

Personally I can't stand the idea of of using my smart phone for 20 different things....so the stand alone SD card is PERFECT for me when it comes to music. For you guys fighting music problems from your phone... pop it all on a stand alone SD card and see the difference.

The XM reception ... now that does suck. But I don't really use XM anyway.... once the trial expires I won't be renewing. Most of radio stations are HD now... which has better sound quality than XM to me..

I am using a non-video, non-touch ipod for my songs. It's dedicated to the vehicle. Lightning fast on any other interface, including my 2011 bose system.

I can understand a nav start-up delay as far as getting a signal and location... when I talk about my start-up delays, I mean I have no functionality of any of the buttons... switching to radio, weather, media, nav, any menus, etc. Horrible delays and jumping around screens once it finally decides to process the inputs.

FYI that is OnStar's turn by turn navigation and after 6 months you will have to pay for it. it uses the same GPS module that OnStar uses to locate your vehicle in the event of a crash...

My understanding is if you install and use the OnStar app within your 3 mth trial period, you will be able to use the app after your trial period even if you don't continue the OnStar subscription.

I wonder if that will extend to using nav when loaded from the app?

I am surprised one of the GM reps hasn't tuned in on this thread yet...

what is the GM rep going to say??? the same thing they say on every post. "Sorry to hear about your troubles, bla, bla, bla""

As for onstar.. my understanding is if you use it once... you get the phone app (lock, start, etc) but I don't think you will get the turn by turn, etc, after trial.... but that is fine with me since I have navi built in. I would never have a need for onstars turn by turn

I called customer service... they had me reset factory settings (took about a second, couldn't have done much!). Then they told me to take it to the dealer and have the software reloaded. Hopefully the dealer will just do it, and not hmmm and hawww about it.

Hmm... As stated earlier, that's what I would do.

Hello everyone. New to this site, but not new to Chevrolet trucks. I've owned a 1996, 2000, 2009, 2011, and now a 2014 Silverado. Have loved them all.

So, I have Mylink with navigation... I am very disappointed. For starters, during the first 3-8 minutes of a journey in the truck (from system start), everything on the mylink takes a very long time to react to changes. If I want to start navigation, 10-15 second delay. If I want to switch to media... the same. Half the time, when I go to the home screen, and press Nav (ONCE!), I get the icon edit screen... It is sooo slow and so buggy. Takes forever to switch stations, screens, etc.

I listen to music through my ipod. On my 2013, I could switch songs (pressing next/forward) in about one second... On the 2014 with Mylink, it takes anywhere between 3 and 10 seconds, each time. Completely unacceptable, considering my 2013 was so much faster. Isn't this supposed to be better?

Then we come to the Nav. First of all, I don't see any way to save my current location as a POI or favorite. It only lets you enter addresses and then save that to a contact. Many of my locations don't have addresses (middle of fields, out in the country), and other times, the address isn't exactly accurate. On any other GPS, you can save your current location. If there IS a way to do this, it sure isn't intuitive. I still carry my Garmin with me... thought I wouldn't need it anymore. Also, is there a way to set "Home"?

Hopefully there will be significant improvements with software updates in the near future, but I'm not holding my breath. This was an expensive option that I wish I could get my money back for.

Are others experiencing these same symptoms? I just bought the truck the end of September, and it had just been delivered to the dealer.

I hate to do this, but...

I have noticed the SAME issues with mine. There is quite a bit of lag with

the Mylink system when switching apps and when switching radio stations as

well. And to be honest, I agree with your feelings. This is a $50,000 truck. I

expect, $50,000 quality right down to the changing of the radio station.

I too am disappointed in the navigation system as well. But being a GM fan

boy and coming from a GM family, I NEVER expect much when I purchased the truck

with navigation. Navigation integrated into GM vehicles as always struck me as primitive.

Before I reach out to the dealership and have the software re-loaded, I'd

like to read that another person on his board has done this and seen success.

Exactly. And the whole point of this post is to see what other's experiences have been. Just marching into a dealer and telling them to reload your software isn't usually well received. Also, there are several documented occurances of the dealer basically locking out the mylink because they don't load the software properly.

It seems strange though that some are seeing no delays and others find it so aggravating they wish they hadn't got it.

OMG quite complaining, the my link is not going to be as fast as the newest smartphones or PC's......... Be thankful you have what you have because there are worse systems in other vehicles.

are you kidding or serious?

THE ONLY REAL LAG I GET IS FOR THE PHONE PAIRING WHEN I GET IN THE TRUCK. SOMETIMES ITS PAIRED AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN GEAR, SOMETIMES IT TAKES 10 MINUTES OR MORE. BUT OTHER THAN THAT ITS SEAMLESS!

Hmm I've never had an problem with the blue tooth taking long. Typically mine is paired before I even get in the truck (remote start). It could be your phone and how it's blue tooth is set up.

Played around with mine today and noticed little (1-2 seconds) if no lag at all. Bluetooth is usually paired within 30 sec at most. Nav works good too..

I have an LTZ with nav and experience all the same issues exactly as you've outlined them. I'm a computer chip designer by profession and it seems to me, all the lag is either a severely underpowered processor, or poorly written software. I'm hoping it's the software because that could be fixed with a future update. If it's the processor then we are stuck with what we have.

Before I go further - I love the truck in general. I find it hard to believe that other 2014 nav owners aren't experiencing the exact same performance issues, as they seem to be design/implementation problems and not build issues with my specific truck.

to Jacksfan98 who said "quit complaining" - are you joking? My truck MSRP was $48k. The electronic information and nav system should run flawlessly, never mind slow with occasional bugs.
