Picked her up last night

Picked up the silverado last night. Tungsten mettalic great color. 4x4, LT 1, NHT(tow package, 5.3l, 3.73 gearing) LT convience package, double cab. Truck MSRP for 43, with GM discount, incentive and usaa discount truck cost just under 37.

I had a 2011 F150 Ecoboost, probably the best truck I have owend to date as far as quality of build etc. and the thing was a tow monster.

New truck exterior styling the truck is slick and I think outclasses the F150 in this aspect and probably ties ram or even better(sorry I think rams have for a while now took the cake in exterior styling) The interior is leaps and bounds above the old model silverado, no more of that cheap plastic feel, the interior feels a lot more form fitting then the F150 and the older silverado, everything is at your finger tips. If you are a bigger guy it might feel kind of tight. My truck has the 8in screen and back up cam, quite the innovation from what I have had in the past. Interior compared to the F150 better but thats reasonable considering the truck is 3 model years newer and I havent seen the inside of a new F150

Double cab is awesome, granted not as much room as a crew cab, but be sure to check one out as it may change some of your minds, and does save you a few thousand bucks. I did get the Jet ash interior which is a grey, you can only get the option with the all star or convience package with the LT. This is one knock but its my own fault, dealer didnt have any in stock when i ordred and only had a swatch which looked darker, and its a true grey. its not bad and if you like its nice just not what i expected. I just didnt want black as I had black in my old chevy and it was a constant pain to keep clean.

Towing package(NHT) I ordered 27 SEP and it showed up last week. With the towing package you can only get it in LT1 or LTZ1, no Z71 allowed. Now for the 6.2l or high country I dont know the ordering restrictions. But with the double cab 5.3 I get 11,200 of towing. I was told by dealer you couldnt get NHT with the all star package, I dont know if this is true, but when they ordered it wouldnt let them. But if you get the convience package and NHT you pretty much get everything the all star package offers and its cheaper. You also get 18in wheels with NHT.

For Z71 Ill be honest I wouldnt waste the money on it, its nothing more than a grill, skid plate and shocks. Honestly the Z71 grill is junk in comparison to the non Z71 which is chrome. And the non Z71 has just as aggressive tires and looks.

The 6spd tranny isnt new to me had it in the ford which I think might even be the same tranny. But if your going to a 5 to 6, its acts a lot different, the tranny wants to stay in a higher gear longer(gas mileage) and you do get more of a tranny bump with it, but like I said Im used to it.

Why did you get rid of 2011 F150? Its pretty new?

Well a few reasons, family situation changing soon and needed or wanted a 4 door. Also was looking for some cash to pay off or pay some things and the F150 had equity in it. F150 was a great truck, and I like I said the best truck I have owned to date. I probably would have stayed with an F150 but they only offer a crew cab and the config I wanted made the truck close to 50k and that wasnt even a lariat model. I love chevy but my 2007 silverado was junk, hoping this one turns out better. So far out of the box I have no complaints, well see after some use.

Ok had the truck about a week and here is what I have so far. 1. I like it. lol

2. MPG on the 5.3 , 3.73 gearing is close to 17mpg

3. Truck is quiet and smooth in the cab, smoother than my 11 F150. Went on gravel roads hunting and its smooth.

4. The interior is probably what I am most happy with, night and day from the last model, everything is at the finger tip. The lights and the 4x4 are the left, the 4x4 on the left is nice as the shifter is no longer in the way and isnt some big gaudy dial. I have the 8 inch screen and everything is laid out nice.

5. The exterior appearance is awesome. Always thought rams look the best, but chevy really made this thing look nice from all aspects and in my mind is the best look truck now or a close tie with ram. Front end is hard to beat.

6. Double door or double cab is awesome. not as much room as teh crew cab, but before you spend 3 grand on the crew, I would definitely check out the double cab.

Now for some annoyances really, or something I wish would have gotten some more thought not saying its a deal breaker or whinning.

1. Gas cap, ford no longer has a cas cap, this is really nice not having to deal with it.

2. This goes for all manufacturs, buy a 43k truck and no bed liner. I mean guys arent buying LTZ and LTs with descent packages for work trucks, lets start including them.

3. Another non manfacture specific grip, the remote start, aftermarket can go like half a mile and tells you when its on. All the big three can do is one way remote that goes tops 200ft??

4. The my link seemed touchy at first in not understanding me, seems to be getting better. maybe it has a learning curve?

5. Back to my link, I dont understand the point in having the screen on the radio do what it does while using my link and the screen on the dash doing it as well, leave the dash screen alone.

6. Setting the MPG on the dash screen it only gives you like 50, 100, and 400miles, should have an all time MPG rating

7. The steering wheel contol to change favorites on the radio you have hit it once to turn on, then hit it again to change the station, why not ONE TOUCH?? Also there is some lag.

8. Lights are really bright and wipers work great, something Ford can not figure out. But again on a 43k truck why isnt there hid, my wifes malibu has hid and isnt even an LTZ. The LT and up should be standard HID

9. Another non manufacture specific gripe is cell phone and GPS docking stations of sorts. Something on the console or the dash that could universally hold a cell phone and you could plug your charger in.

10. White wall tires, should be a standard option, not $300 bucks more if you want them.

All in in all great truck I would give the redesign so for an A- and that could go higher with more use. I gave them an A- as GM really did think about a lot of things on this truck but to get an A they really would have had to go above the bar and really came out with some stuff that has not been thought about, they sniffed at it and came close but really didnt cross the line. I also beleive they missed the boat on the turbo engine. Which leads me to believe that is why they have a lot of stock running around.

I have heard in rumor circles that the 2014 is a major refresh but somethings were left out i.e the 8spd tranny and the turbo engine, which kind of sucks if they come out with it next year.

Download the OnStar app if you have a smartphone. Unlimited distance for remote start. I use it all the time while I'm at work.

Yes yes I forgot to mention this. I have to do it yet. But question is will I have to maintain/pay for onstar after it goes out to keep this working.

No as long as you download it and start using it before your 6 month's expires. The OnStar services will go away, but the remote part will still work according to the GM rep that posts on here.

Oh ok sweet. Thanks man I will look into this. I saw it could do that and it slipped my mind.

BTW, how's that thing drive with the 3.73's?

In comparison to what? Hard to say. I think its nice. My old ecoboost had the same gearing so it acts the same, I beleive they are the same tranny arent they?? The eco had more pick up but thats expected with the turbos. But overall the truck has nuts. I test drove a 5.3 with the 3.08 gearing and let me tell you that thing couldnt get out of its own way.
