Thanks Karnut and Mike1220, I'll check out a local shop after Thanksgiving and see what they can do. I'll post on here whatever I get and let you all know how it sounds. I do prefer it louder and don't at all mind the noise in the cab. I enjoy the loud muscle car like sound, just like an old '67 Chevelle SS!

Ya I never cared for kits because of the cost. I just took mine to a local shop that are good with exhaust and all they did was order the Flowmaster Super 44, tailpipes and tips. Even with install it's a fraction of the cost of most kits and then you have to put it on. Also with a shop any good shop can do exactly what you want while with a kit you have to hope you find it at least close to how you want it. I didn't touch anything in front of the muffler. Of course if you want manual bend you will have to pay more, but I don't worry about that unless it's a performance car like a Camaro or Mustang.

It appears that going to a local shop seems to be the way to go in terms of cost.

I just had a Borla muffler installed last week at a shop that I have used in Toledo for years (5 truck done). They do very good work and I once commented that you could do pull-ups on my pipes they are so solid in the truck.

I picked up the Borla at Jegs (they priced match Summit) for about $110 and had Auto Connection on Sylvania Ave and Douglas do the install. They ran the single in/dual out to the rear in stainless and added 2 Chrome stainless tips for $471...For $580 I got exactly what I wanted not what was available. They guys custom bend and they know what there doing...

I'm going to do the same thing. Custom is much cheaper to get the sound you want. I plan on a borla round sportsman xr1 but not sure if i should get a 3" or 3.5" in/out. GM pipes 3.5 from the last cat, down to 3 into the muffler, 3 out to the flapper, back to 3.5 to the resonator, then down to 3 again on the tailpipe. Wish they used 3.5 the whole way.

Well your sig says you have the 6.2 so you should be looking at 3.5" inlet at the muffler. The only trouble you may have is if your doing tips and going to run 3.5" all the way back to them. The tip I had installed were 3"... Not sure how much harder 3.5" tips might cost. The internet is your friend...

Guess I should've specified, close to the same as you lol I'm sticking with the OEM tail pipe. Red tail double 4"tip will be the only difference.

What length case on your borla? Is it loud enough?

Well for right now I am still debating on loudness... These mufflers will get louder as they get broke in. My Borla 40349, single in 3''/Dual out 2.5'', Length: 19'', Height: 4'', Width 9-1/2’’ is so far just what I was looking for . Deep throaty tone and so far NO drone in cab. But I have only driven maybe 50 miles on it. I can barely hear it at cruzin speed but it speaks when I put my foot down. I do have that "helicopter" sound when the truck goes into V4 mode but it is so far tolerable. I do own a Range devise which will take care of that. I had a Flowmaster Supper 50 Delta Flow on my 13 Silverado w/5.3 and this does sound deeper. I also dumped mine out the rear under the bumper which I believe makes a difference in the sound from the driver’s seat.

Thanks for the input. My last truck had a borla muffler w/3rd cat cut out. Sounded perfect.. I don't mind a bit of drone but that chopper noise I've heard about in v4 mode worries me

I left the 3rd cat in, just had everything from the muffler back taken out. I have a Flowmaster Super 44 and it sounds awesome. It does have that V4 drone but it doesn't bother me because to me it sounds like the engine brake on an 18 wheeler and I loved that sound when I did trucking. Some don't mind it, others hate it and I think you'll have to have the flapper valve somewhere behind or in the muffler I believe. Or could always tune it so it stays in V8 all the time.

Exactly what I did... I installed the 14" Magnaflow, with no flapper and no resonator. I love the sound, including the V4 mode! Music to my ears!

You wanna hear drone? Jump into a 6.2L C6 Corvette with B&B Bullets!!! It's like being in a torture chamber!:lol::lol: But I do love it.

i'd love to hear a video of this helicopter drone ,many folks mention. ive never heard it before and do not know if it would bother me at all lol. can any of you guys that experience post a video

There have been a lot of "In cab" videos posted, but to my ears, none have captured what the real sound is in the cab. I have never heard a video that even remotely depicts the V4, helicopter sound. I think you have to actually ride in the truck to truly "hear/feel" the V4 thing. To me it's a "feeling", as much as a sound. You know how you sort of "feel" the bass in a good stereo....pretty much the same idea. Maybe if you have a real good speaker system, or headphones, you might get closer, but just standard computer speakers.........I don't think so.

Its a sound hard to describe.........it drives some poeple crazy, and others don't seem to mind it. My 2007 Silverado had a Magnaflow system, and the V4 thing was certainly noticeable, but really it didn't bother me all that much, and I guess I just got used to it over time. Like I said, you need to hear it in the cab of a truck, In my opinion, for what it's worth, I don't think the V4 sound can be reproduced in a sound clip with any accuracy.........you have to hear it for yourself.

Hi everyone, great thread with interesting info!

I have a 2014 5.3 LT, and I just replaced the stock muffler with a Borla Pro xs. I also have the Airaid Mit. Sound is nice, but looking for a little more rumble.

Which delete would increase sound? The last cat or the resonator?

This is my first post but have been lurking for a while!

Thnks, jason

Not sure how loud the Borla Pro is, but when I had my Flowmaster Super 44 put in they just took out everything from the muffler back, so no resonator which I think accounts for a lot of the sound deadening. I was worried that it wouldn't be loud but it's awesome and I didn't touch any of the 3 cats that are all in front of the muffler. It's the loudest truck and setup I've had, but it still has a good tone and doesn't sound bad like a glasspack.

Thank for the info^^ I'm going to have to look for some vids.

Sounds like your set up may be for me.

With just my Borla muffler, I only hear it really good on cold startups and when I punch it. Would love to be able to hear it just a tad more on driving in and idling.
