Hood Vibration / Movement

Hey guys, had my 14 Sierra for a few weeks now, and wondering if anybody has seen this. At highway speeds, I'm seeing my front hood vibrate some. I'm not sure if this is a result of the lightweight aluminum hood these trucks have now, or if I've got a problem. I've tried popping the hood, and I twisted the rubber stops to see if I can get it tighter. I twist my right side one (since that side seems looser at least 30 times I would say, and it doesn't seem to raise up any further. Even then, when the hood is closed and properly latched, I still can push down on the hood and it gives has some give to it (seems to just compress the weather stripping a bit. Have you guys noticed this or is there an issue with my hood? Trying to see if it's something common with aluminum hoods before bringing to dealership to check out. Thanks guys

I've done a few highway trips where 80 mph is required to keep up with the flow of traffic, no hood vibration on mine.

My 07 Sierra did that, but haven't noticed it four months into my 14.

When you turn the rubber hood bumpers, aren't you just turning the tops without raising the bumpers? I am pretty sure that this hood issue is just a matter of adjustment. I had this happen on my '06 truck and after I adjusted the hood bumpers, no more problems.

Mine '14 Sierra does that. Not a lot, but definitely does. Like you, I just assumed it was the new lightweight hood and thus haven't done anything about it.

Yea my 05 ford five hundred had a loose hood but was fixed pretty quick with minor adjustment. This one feels like the bumper isn't adjusting. Anybody know if I have to take the rubber bumper off then adjust the bolt? Didn't want to take the rubber off then not be able to get it back on!

adjustment by dealer...come on guys..

Not sure if I understand the comment? Are you saying I should have the dealer adjust it? I've adjusted hood bumpers before but these didn't seem to get tight and help.

Yes, I have noticed this and there are 2 causes. 1 like everyone mentions is a simple hood adjustment. My latch was a good 1/4" out of alignment.

The second and the one that upsets me is the hood actually flexing. This happens on mine between the 2 power domes in the hood closer to the windshield. The lightweight sheet metal has nothing backing it and at speeds as low as 55 my hood flexes in this area. If you lightly press on the hood you can see it simply cave in. It springs back but in my eyes this is unacceptable.

I know they are trying to go lightweight but a truck that is $50k should not flutter in the wind. It can't be that much lighter because it doesn't get that much better mileage than my 08 avalanche! As a matter a fact there are many things this truck lacks that my 08 had!

Mine has been to the dealer twice and they are now looking at replacing the hood. I just hope the paint matches!

Really, you must of had an elite edition of the 08 avalanche hysterical.gif. I had an 09 LTZ AV, fully loaded and my 14 Silverado is light years ahead in every aspect

Might as well return the truck. It seems defective.

It's an aluminum hood. Yes it might vibrate some.
