Is it harder to negotiate an order over picking one on the lot?

I did. they advertise 8K-9K plus off. But explain $3,750 or so of it in their write up. where is the other $5,000-$6,000 coming from?

In my search, I've found many dealers will offer 8-9K off MSRP, but in the end, when you ask for the OTD price, you rarely qualify for all the discounts that bring the price down that low. Essentially they are advertising a price many won't qualify for.

Just email and ask them it's not hard. Jon Martin was my sales guy. Nice guy. 10k under msrp is hard to beat. And get a gm credit card before you buy that's like another 1500 off

I have had my best success going through the Fleet Manager or Fleet Sales office. In order to do this, you must not have talked with anybody at the dealership's front office. With the fleet buyer you start at invoice and go up slightly for the advertising hold back. I have gone this route on my last 5 vehicles - two were ordered - three were located at nearby dealerships and dealer traded for - the average savings is 15% over MSRP and there are no document fees, ADP or any of the usual adders that the front office does.

I have also used the same Fleet buyer(he has moved from dealership to dealership and lets me know when he moves so I can find him)and with my current truck - I asked him to let me know when the order queue opened for the NBS HD's - when I got the call - I ran out and we went over the truck and all the options- I told him what I wanted and then took the order sheet home for the boss to look over - as well as my banker for the loan. Got approvals from both - gave the Buyer a call and he took it from there - a few weeks later I got the call that my truck was built and on its way - two weeks later it was in my driveway.

IMHO this is the ONLY way to buy a car - no hassle - no haggle - he gives you the price and that is that. Most fleet buyers are truck experts as trucks make up the majority of their sales. They are also paid on the volume of vehicles they move - and don't need to make a fortune on every deal. BTW even at "invoice" there is still some meat for the dealer.

No. Depends on dealer but since dealers know you will walk out the door on a pre-sale commitment if you don't get rock bottom price, they will work hard to stop you from walking. Incentives is where you can get screwed on an order. You just never know until the truck comes in...

A dealer will always give you a better deal on an in stock vehicle vs a specific order. I assume that's what the original question was asking.

I'm just a customer but my salesman's name is Joe Adams...Give him a call and he can explain it to you....they have over 25 SLTs on the lot and more on the way, plus the Double Cabs and all SLEs. People are flying in and driving home...

Explain?

I can order a truck and pay x amount under invoice (or gm supplier pricing) and I can get the same deal for a truck on the lot. Dealers can only go so low on either a truck on the lot or ordered (not figuring incentives). When ordering our Tahoe I could have bought off the lot or ordered for the same price. I ordered because the one on the lot was missing the 3rd row.

Hey man good for you. That's one hell of a good deal and a lot better than I (and it seems a majority) of the board got. Enjoy your rig :)
