Just a bit of an update. I've gotten the front USB outlets to work as charging outlets but no communication yet.

That's what I was planning to do with them whenever I get around to find this mod. So far, I've only used my iPod and I like it in the lid part anyways... I'd only use the "new" usb to charge things

What did you have to do to get them powered?

Power and ground to the 6 pin connector and USB cable connected to the outlet and HMI control module. There must be some type of communication because I have always on power and ground to the USB outlet. Yet it goes to sleep about ten minutes after key off or opening door. and wakes up when the driver door is opened or key is on.The correct 6 pin connector is very expensive so I just used the terminals and shrink tube to keep from shorting. I would have to find the part numbers for the terminals. The cable I bought ( the only we could find in the GM part catalog ) plugs into the outlet but not into the module without some customizing. Had to shave the connector down with a razor blade.

#4 ground, #6 power. 1 photo shows back of 3 slot USB outlet (front). Other shows the very expensive connector you could use.

Forgot something. As for the terminals, I used terminals from GM. The part number is SAIT-A03GF-M064 . This is clearly not a normal GM number. You have to go to the dealer and ask the parts dept or service dept. They are usually considered a service part. Some dealers keep them in parts and some in service. There are about 30 tray full of terminals. These are in tray #27.

Ok I got the console in and swapped the harness from the original console into the new one, but I'm curious, how do I wire the inside console light( I get the power and ground for the light but how do I wire the switch that's down at the bottom of the console (a diagram of what color to what color would be really helpful) and I was thinking, couldn't I just get a USB splitter and split the main USB plug in (looks to b a mini USB or something like that and just run USB chords from that splitter to the front and to the inside of the console?)

so apparently you work for GM, ill abandon my search for that harness because obviously you put in a lot of effort lol

question though, the USB plugs you are trying to get working, would it not be easier to just get a identical plug setup as the one that is inside the center console with the 2 USB, input and SD card reader, get the proper plug and basically make the OEM harness split to support 2 identical plugs?

in theory, USB plugs can be split, we see it all the time on computers with a Y split adapter so you can plug in a mouse and keyboard and a USB key, or the keyboards you plug into 1 USB output and then it has 2 or 3 more USB plugs on the back of the keyboard for USB keys.

essentially that is what you would be making but for all the supported outlets in the one plug.

Just a thought.

great job with all the work to this point and documenting it, ill be following it once i decide to buy this console.

The way I did the USB was the cheapest for me. Also the way the factory wires it. I had serious doubts it would work all along. I think I'm content to leave it as is now. 2 USB and an SD slot is more than I need anyway. Splitting is probably worth a try though. They are micro USB . I tried to find a micro USB male to male before ordering the GM cable and didn't have any luck. Standard USB cables may or may not plug into GM's priority connectors. You should try before investing it whatever cables, hub or "y's" you might try. At this point my front USB outlets will charge but I wonder if the 12v outlets will charge faster anyway. Don't know and probably will never use any of them anyway. As for the electrical connector, my cost was over $100.00 for that little bastard. For $10.00 maybe.

With or without extra outlets, I love my new console. Anyone on the hump thinking about adding it should do it. Especially like the 2 cup holder setup that actually holds a decent size cup.

Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Here is a wiring diagram for the console switch and light.

Ok, so when I installed mine last night I just swapped the harness from the old console into my new one. I have the rear cig light plug in that I don't have connected, one of the two cig light plug ins at the front of the console I have plugged in but nothing else up there. What would b the best route; to cut the ends off of the new harness that came w the new console and plug everything else in and wire it to the old console harness? Could I get a diagram of how you did so for all the plugs? I'm really nervous about doing anything to this new console without a picture diagram or step by step. If really really appreciate it.

Thanks for all of your help.

I might do this myself but I am curious - how much air / space is under the console. I know there is a Bose subwoofer that fits under there if you have Bose in a console-equipped truck. I'm hoping there'd be enough space for car audio amplifiers or at least my processor.

Correct me if I'm wrong, GM's front USBs, from the factory, are only for charging - so I'm told by my salesmen whom I just called. I've never tested this. They will not send audio signal even if factory equipped. It's only the ones inside under the armrest that send audio signal.

Thanks

I went out on the lot and tried my USB drive on a new Silverado front USB slot. It works.

Schlegle1, did you leave the original harness in the new console? I left mine in and added the jump seat harness. I tapped into the original power outlet wiring coming out of the front of the ip.used power and ground to run the other power outlet and power to the wht/brn wire on the new harness to power the light. Ran a ground wire from circuit 1050 in the picture above to ground. I think it is a larger black wire. 15 amp fuse runs 2 outlets and light. it's an led so no real power draw to speak of. As I think back, I don't think the rear outlet works but I don't care. I'll never use the 3 I have now. As I said in an earlier post I would probably do it different if I did it over again. Was up against the clock so I didn't have the time to really think the process through. But everything works that I will ever need so it isn't worth changing.
