Soaked Rear Carpeting

Again how would the rear mats be dry on the surface, but soaking wet underneath if the sunroof was leaking? There would be evidence of water on top of the weathertech floor liner since its basically a once piece tray...gravity, while amazing isn't magic.

Go back and read the 2nd paragraph in the OPs 1st post and you will see there are 2 different issues he has. Not just the water under the mat. :nonod:

Go back and read post 3. A sunroof could attribute to the noise of water but not the water leak itself as won said gravity would bring the water in? Two separate conversations going on.

If the water is comng in between the apholstery panels and the cab, I don't think you would ever see it on the floor mats. No one would notice it until, like you, they found the wet carpet. I doubt the dealer would ever check that but I know I'll check my '13 next time it rains.

Thanks. No need for me to go back and read anything I'm following along this thread just fine. Just got to take what Won says with a good laugh sometimes.

Just got mine back from the dealer today. One of the things it was in for was a water leak. I had water dripping from the drivers side sun visor mount. They tell me it turned out to be the seal for the sat antenna. They also applied the recall fix and an update for the climate control

Mine truck had the same issue water was coming in around a bad seal on the cab of truck between the bed and cab. The seal kinda looks like flaps on your dryer vent on the outside of your house. It's there for cab pressure so the doors don't bounce back when you close them. Dealer fixed it same time they did the back window recall. Water runs the inside behind the back seat and pools up underneath the mat under the carpet

It seems to me they're going to find something that can only happen when the truck is in motion in wet conditions. Since it sat somewhere for 3 months before it was sold to me, if it was just rain that did it, it would have happened before. Even here in my driveway the rain didn't seem to wet the carpeting. But after a few times of driving in rainy conditions is when it happened.

It only showed up after I put the weathertecs in. I'm blaming them! LOL

Hey mdes0 and philbun,

I'm happy to hear the dealer was able to address these concerns for you and get you back into your trucks and on the road!

I opened one of the back doors after a rain and enough water came out to fill one of those small chinese soup containers. It just kept pouring out. Waiting for the bottom of the door to rust off

Coming out of the bottom of the doors? Isn't there some kind of drain holes on the outside of the gasket?

You would think. This was coming out of a hole towards the front of the door on the underside. don't use the back doors a lot, guess I will have to open them after a rain,or put in some gold fish.

PS I was telling my wife about the large amount of water coming out and she said the same thing happened on the front door same side the day before when she went out to get something from the truck. Man I love this truck

Got my truck back today from getting the leak situation fixed. It was a small (very small) hole in the vertical seam just below the right side of the rear window. I guess the combination of parking on a slight incline and all of the water channeled from above the rear window was enough. Hard to believe that small of a hole would be that big of a source of water, but that's their story and they're sticking to it!

They resealed that area and the carpeting dried out quickly. I asked if there was any concern for mold and would they consider new carpeting, but my dealer said GM does not replace carpeting simply for a leak.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes!

hopefully they pulled out seats and then the carpet, dry it out thoroughly, and disinfect it. You can dry out carpet on the surface but the insulation and sound deadening material attached to the underside will stay wet for a very long time. After about 3 days, you'll start to smell an overwhelming stench. Hopefully they did right by you.
