new 2010 Silverado LTZ serious issues...need advice

Hi all!

Lots of good info on this forum. I would like to get some advice from the members here.
I just purchased a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ less than 2 months ago with 25,630 miles. I also purchased an extended warranty. After doing some research I am the 3rd owner. Upon purchase the day after I bought it I noticed the trim looked faded and had some paint issues, I went to fill the truck up and it wouldn't accept more than about 1/2 a gallon of fuel per minute and the heated seats would shut off automatically before even getting warm. I mentioned this to the salesman and he just acted like it wasn't a big deal. I live over an hour from the dealership. I took the truck by there to talk with them about it and they told me I would have to schedule an appointment. Two days later I have to visit a customer near the dealership and coming down an incline near the dealership the brakes started vibrating terribly and the check engine light come on. I took the truck immediately to the dealership and had to get a little rude about being blown off. They gave me a car to drive while it was in their service dept. At this point I had put less than 1000 miles on the truck. a week later they call me and said:
We cannot find an issue with the heated seats
the front brakes needed resurfaced(in which the general manager standing there said they had resurfaced them when the truck arrived on their lot)
every transmission line under the truck was leaking and needed replaced (but they weren't when they inspected the truck?)
there were two sensors or evaporators bad dealing with the fuel tank
So I had to pay my warranty deductible and I got my truck back, when I took it home I started looking really closely at it and the trim sure enough has been repainted and it was a poor poor job, there are tape lines in it also and the clear coat is starting to flake in places under the front bumper.
I drove the truck for another week and going down the road it lost power all of a sudden, started vibrating and would not accelerate. once the truck cleared up and started running properly (still going down the road on a 50 degree day at 5:00 pm) the computer then flashed "ice possible" and the rear brakes LOCKED and I slid about 30 or so feet to a stop....
This time I had to ride an hour and a half in a rollback to the dealership, the brakes locking has really bothered me and more so my wife, she doesn't feel safe in that truck at all and I cannot say that I blame her. I am urging the dealer to find another truck of equal value and be fair with me. What would you guys do in this situation?

The paint is unfortunate but nothing really that the dealer can do or should do it could have got traded in like that.... The rest of it sucks they should have covered your deductible and thank god you bought the extended warranty so they didn't have to cover the repairs out if goodwill or tell you to get lost and lose a customer... They are under no obligation to trade you out of it however if you are polite and work with them maybe they will work with you good luck

That entire scenario is why I have decided that if I have the cash to buy new that I will NOT be purchasing a used truck.

Hearing stories like this make me glad I was able to purchase the last of the new '13's at a used truck price. I don't have to worry as much about the aforementioned issues.

First off, welcome to the forum. Second, sorry about your terrible luck. I am like those above when it comes to used cars or trucks. Under ten grand I'll take the chance, more than that I'll buy new. I know I lose a ton driving it off of the lot but with a really low(or zero in my case) interest rate, new payments aren't that far from used anymore. If I were in your situation I would ask the dealership(hopefully a Chevrolet dealership) to give you the purchase price in trade on a new 2013 model. They still made the money off of you, and they'll make more on selling a new truck to you. Good luck, I hope this works out for you in the long run.

Was this a "certified" used truck?

Also, how do the new warranties work? Is the 3/36,000 bumper to bumper only applicable to the original owner? If it is just a straight 3/36,000 then he should be screaming about having to pay the deductible and recording his issues for a possible claim.

Is anyone else getting about 8 random words in the first post that are links to another forum?

And why was the extend warranty involved at all? What happened to the factory warranty?

Sounds like a lemon. Three owners in 25,000 miles? I say get rid of it.

I bought both my trucks used, for well over $10,000. In fact, the 2nd one I bought used for over $20k. Both have been splendid vehicles with no issues whatsoever. Both trucks were inspected by an independent mechanic prior to my purchase, and I did my homework. Can't bring myself to spend $50k on a new truck.

Luck of the draw my friend. I did all that and still got a problem 2009 truck. You might want to get yourself a powerball ticket. Is 50k too much to spend on a truck? Heck if you cut out beer and cigs for a few months you will save that much right?

Same here. The only vehicle I will spend $ 50 k on is a slightly used $ 100k luxury car in mint condition.

Hi, I'm brand new to this forum and I joined looking for information regarding projector headlight mods. BUT, I do have some experience in dealing with "lemon law" vehicles. While it sounds like you probably aren't eligible for your state's Lemon Law (if your state has one), if the dealer sold the truck with a warranty, you may still be eligible for help under other statutory regulations, e.g., the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and/or the Uniform Commercial Code. You can do some research on your own on the internet or contact an attorney in your area who deals with type of claims. These laws apply whether the vehicle was new or not as long as it was sold with a warranty and the defect was covered under the warranty. Hope this helps.
