Is there another one on the market other than the Range? Is there a way to switch from AFM delete to normal mode while driving, other than stopping the truck and pulling it out when its not running?

Never mind I had one ordered.

Got my Range AFM module in and test drove this morning.  Did not do the Shudder test at the spot it happened….. But it shifts like a dream.  The Crappy 1-2  2-1 shift is gone.  It was like driving my old 2006 again. Thanks Guys and Gals for the help!!

Just got my latest OnStar diagnostic report and I guess I need to unplug the Range at that time of the month.

I just disabled the monthly reports. If there is a problem I will get a light on dash.

I recently had 2 cylinder's AFM system replaced.  I've noticed in the couple months since that my mileage seems to have gone down a bit.  It seems to go in to 4cyl mode just as often as before, but when it does many times the MPG gauge doesn't move.  Other times it bounces back and forth between 18 and 24 like a clock ticking.  It didn't used to behave like this.  I'm driving the same roads.

Also, (and I believe unrelated) I had the cat coverter y-pipe replaced under warranty a couple weeks ago.  At least one core was rattling.  I first noticed it after the AFM repair, but it might have been doing it before... I'm not sure.

I'm just curious is anyone else noticed anything like that when there's was fixed.

Hey All!  New to the forum.  I wanted to thank everyone for the valuable info in this thread.  I started operating my truck in L5  yesterday to avoid the V8-V4-V8 AFM b.s. and am very happy with the performance of the truck being run that way.  Thanks a bunch!

Yeah I spent about 6 hours on this site and immediately ordered a Range AFM disabler for my 2016 Suburban. Thank goodness for places like this.

Hello, new to this forum. Recently purchase a 2016 GMC  35K with the 5.3 engine. Just to give a different point of view from the posts i am reading. My truck shifts so smooth you cant feel unless you are watching the tach. It also changes in and out of 4 cyl mode where you cant feel it. I just took a 100 mile trip and averaged 20 MPG in 15 degree temps. So i am happy with my AFM.

My 2016 GMC Sierra SLT hit 49K this weekend and I took it in and had the transmission fluid and filter changed and it shifts so smoothly that I haven't put the Range back into the OBD. 8 speed btw.

So ole Roost checking in here, had a 12 Tahoe that was destroyed by AFM and now have a 14 Silver w a 5.3. I see the range plug in looks like still the way to go ?? I'm not letting that AFM bullshyt mess up this one. I started reading first page till i saw how old it was so skipped to the back, what did i miss, same ole BS i reckin. One thing i noticed while reading this thread, is all the mpg talk, my opinion is F that, you dont buy a full size 4x4 truck w a v8 for gas mileage. You want great mpg get a 6 cyl truck w no balls, you cant have it all your gonna give up something somewhere, you guys over 40 should no this, aint nothin free. So it seems the 14's and newer drop to 4 cyl instead of 6, i think that Tahoe dropped to 6 ? Why IN THE HELL would anybody want a big truck that ran in 4 banger mode, and whats the other 4 doing at that time, smokin a ciggerette, thats bullshyt, and will cause problems sooner or later. Ford comin w a 7 plus litre motor and we're cryin about gas milage and pushing dropping to 4 for milage. There is no gas shortage i repeat there is no gas shortage, who TF cares if it gets 16-18-20 there's plenty of it for sale, i want max hp at all times, dropping down to 4 is gay as hell, give me a big block in a half ton truck, 10mpg, now then. What is wrong with you guys

I bought the Diablo tuner, ran the diablo tune, turned off AFM, turned off DOD, added 20% throttle response.   Runs great, better mileage by 2-3 mpg, sometimes more and it runs great all the time without the cylinder deactivation sounding bad and herky jerky stuff.   Shifts better too btw and left torque management on, tried it off but its better on.

Do you notice any ping when under light load? I installed the 87/89 tune was getting that. I returned to stock and just adjusted the idle up a bit and turned off AFM. I have no ping on stock tune. Curious as to what tune your running and grade/type of gas.

Bob, read that post carefully. 1.) First post 2.) He turned off both AFM and DOD. Really? C'mon man. They are the same thing 3.) He's using he DIC to report some fiction on mileage. It's physically impossible.  4.) Herky Jerky? LOL....not. 5.) Sounding bad. I know I'm half deaf but if the factory exhaust is in play you are hard pressed to hear it under any conditions. 6.) IF and it's a big if, you could HEAR ping then your knock sensors are not working as they should.

Internet is full of this crap. It's a full story below you brother.

Good point. Multitasking as I get older gets harder. Lol. As far as ping I def heard it on mine cruising about 40 to 50 when pressing accelerator slightly going up a hill Tune installed. Same stretch of road stock tune it’s not there. So for me it wasn’t worth it to keep the tune since it wasn’t my objective in the first place. Stock is fine with me.
