I emailed them last week asking about what version is needed for the 2019 trucks.

They said 8.6r1 is the current version.

My wife always says she can feel it going in and out....HAAHHAAH
No i'm not off topic...
I can actually feel it kick on and off in my truck with the Borla. I can even hear some flutter.
Back with the stock set up, I could not hear the difference but can still feel the difference.
On our old Honda odyssey, one could not tell or hear the difference at all.

I a 100% agree stock exhaust I couldn’t tell once I did cat back and removed the flapper I could tell. So I just bought a tuner and turned it off. My MPG actually went up lol.

Do you have a sticker stating the version #. I will have to count the blinks when I start it up, supposedly that also tells you the version.

I just got mine today and the version is on the box and I did verify with Range (ordered off their site) and it is as AtlasFBG2 said:

8.6R1

And yes on start up it blinked 8 times, paused and then blinked 6 more then went steady light in, mine is green.

Not to hijack the thread, but I will be getting a custom tune this Friday and my range (purchased 10/18) will be for sale. I have been very happy with it.

So Shakey, have you sold your Range after getting a tune?

Yes, I sold it locally.

If you buy one used, make sure it has the current updates... V8.6R1

So stupid question of the day, and no I did not read all 31 pages.  2014 Silverado,  5.3 59,900 miles and automatic of course.  Will doing away with the AFM in town, help the extremely crappy 1-2 or 2-1 shift?? I swear its getting worse, dealer says, "thats just the way it is"  I am assuming I just can turn it off or on as needed?

@wmgeorge64 just drive it around in M5 and AFM won't turn on so you can see if it cleans up your shifts and how you like it. If that takes away your crappy shift then get the Range if you don't want a tune. I've been driving in M7 (have 8 speed) for awhile now and just picked up a used Range to see what the difference is in my MPG with and without being able to use that 8th gear. Worked fine for me as I usually do stop and go driving. I only use AFM when I'm taking really long trips.

It doesn't run down the battery anymore?  Is this new?

    • Disclosure: BlueV8 is a Supporting Vendor and we sell AFM/DFM disablers. We wrote this because not every GM owner actually needs one. In some cases, regular maintenance, towing use, an existing tune, or simply using M5 makes another device unnecessary.   ⏱ The 10-second version 🚫 Skip it if… You keep the oil full and change it every ~5,000 miles. Your risk is already low. You're happy shifting into M5 every drive. That disables AFM for free. Your truck tows heavy most days. AFM barely runs under load. You already run a tune or delete kit. Done is done. It's already ticking or misfiring. You need a mechanic, not a plug-in. ✅ Worth it if… You bought it used and the oil history is a mystery. Checking the dipstick is… not your hobby. (No judgment.) You're a long-term keeper with lots of easy highway miles — exactly when AFM runs most. The V4 drone and shudder drive you nuts. You're under warranty, so a tune is off the table.   The full article includes the supporting GM bulletins and owner reports: https://www.bluev8.com/blogs/news/do-you-actually-need-an-afm-disabler?utm_source=gm-trucks&utm_medium=forum&utm_content=halfofyoudonotneed
    • It`s magnetic so it`s not main or rod bearings. I would pop off a valve cover or 2 and take a good look at the rocker arms. See if you can see if any needle bearings are coming apart.
    • Hey yall.   I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 2wd. I just did my own oil change (currently 132,000 miles) on the truck for the first time since I got it. It has always had routine maintenance done at the correct time. Never once had a check engine light, oil pressure light, or any light (except low fuel lol). Also never towed anything ever. It has been a daily driver for me.   I noticed the dipstick has metal shavings magnetized to the end of it. And even after wiping it and putting it back in like 12 times, it still pulls some out. The oil filter also has a good amount in it.  It has always ran perfect and still does. Never ever had a weird noise or knocking or ever ran rough. Almost too perfect lol. So this metal has really surprised me. I see some similar stories where people say this is normal wear, others say your engine is cooked. I know it’s hard to say for sure without seeing in person but just wanna see if anyone has had a similar experience at this mileage or any advice?   Thank you in advance.
    • Yes I did forget that part.     That said, the older ones would still get in the 170-190F range.  Not that far off from an early K2XX.
    • Heat is what kills them, the redesigned cooling system and that full temperature thermostat on the side of the transmission doomed them from day 1.  The heat eventually causes the clutch material on the plate to flex which then breaks up and runs throughout the transmission.     The GMT900s when serviced regularly, often run into the 200K mile range or more.  One 6L90 in an HD3500, pulled into the shop on its own power for overhaul at 320K miles at Precision Transmission a few years ago.
