You're the first girl I have encountered on this forum. Go make someone a sandwich.

Girl? Lol whatever... Don't know where that comes from but anyway; and yes there are some girls on the forum who have knowledge. This forum has great info and very knowledgeable members but with you just joining in August with only 14 posts and being a newbie, we understand bro. Instead of coming on a forum and bashing members and their posts, absorb the great info here, learn and share whatever it is you have about GM trucks because no one here wants to see childish banter and bashing. It is what it is.

I like the idea of DRL but don't like it using the main headlights.

I found the wiring for a 2014 Silverado here. Pages 42-45

https://www.gmupfitt...18_2013_WIP.pdf

Does anyone know if I can take the DRL pins out of the plugs and use those wires for some add-on LED's? And would the headlights still operate as normal?

If all you guys want to do is disable the DRL from the SLE headlights just get the harness from gen5. I purchased a conversion harness from them when I had a '14 SLE and put SLT headlights on them. They've been having the '14/'15 DRL disable harness for a while. They also have other harnesses for using LED taillights etc. Here's the description for the DRL harness;

This harness will remove DRL function from your headlamp and can either leave it so your Sierra has no DRL's or we can make it so your fog lights become your DRL's. This harness is needed when installing HID or LED headlight bulbs into your GMC Sierra as there is less voltage during DRL mode which can play havoc with the HID and LED bulbs. This harness is intended for all 2014-2015 GMC Sierra's without the SLT package. If you choose to move the DRL function to your fog lights, your foglights will still operate properly at night via the factory switch.. This harness allows for normal headlight function at night except that you will lose the ability to have just your parking lights on. Anytime the parking lights are now on, your headlights will also be on. We also have this harness with the available option of keeping the foglamps on when the highbeams come on...

Hey guys, just joined up after reading this thread. Alot of great info here! I own a Canadian Silverado and did the pin swap mattblackout suggested. Worked great! Now I would like the option to run just ambers any time I want ( day, night,in park) . My question is would the resistor in the sensor accomplish this? If so how can I get the backlighting and dim ability back? ( I don't have fog lights). Also a put a switch in to turn on off some LED "raptor" lights in my grill and clearance lights. Could I just tie my parking lights into this switch some how? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

I own a Canadian silverado also and did the pin swap. I added tow mirrors with amber running lights and used the open pin under the steering wheel that's key on. I begged all of my local dealerships and GM directly to remove the flipping DRL since the vehicle is now owned and operated in the U.S but they really don't care. When I pull into my driveway, I'm shinning my headlights at two of my neighbors houses, if I back in, it's closer to five neighbors that I paint their houses with light. I can turn the lights off in park, but in a drivethrough I'd rather be able to turn them off with the switch...

If you have a 2015 sierra the LEDs are the DRLs, not low beams. If you wish to have the ambers on during the day as well simply turn your light knob one click to the right. The low beam will only turn on if you turn the light knob two clicks to the right, or if the dash sensor sences darkness. If you wish to have ambers only during the day and no LEDs just swap the pins in the connector for the ambers and the LEDs. Now the LEDs will only turn on with night lights (or one click right on the light knob) and the ambers will be on all the time without having to turn the light knob. You can also make the LEDs your turn signals by powering them with the turn signal supply instead of the ambers supply (your LED would be a blinker only and no longer a running light).

can I swap out the headlights for the led ver would that work?

Interesting. I've never seen those. Seems like you can do the same pin swap mod I've posted for the 2015 silverados. The detailed instructions are somewhere in the last few pages but basically you need to unplug the connector behind your headlight and switch the wires around inside the connector so that the wire powering the ambers will now power the low beam and the wire powering the low beam will now power the ambers. I'm not sure if your truck has the same wire locations as the Silverado. Unplug the driver side connector to put a test light on the pins, look the passenger side headlight to know when just the amber is on and when just the low beam is on, find out which wire does what

No. Check out posts on page 6 (Aug 30th 2014 8:19pm) and page 7 (11:13pm) from "flyin99" he posts pics of the main headlight connector with slots A through H and then a list with lables for each slot. But your truck could be different so use a test light to confirm. Then swap the low beam wire and amber wire in the connector.

So all I have to do is in the harness swap pin B and E on the left and B and E for the right?

also below is for 2015 sierra SLE 4wd

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
